The violent defense we heard about turned into violently missing tackles and flailing about. I’d say I’m somewhat concerned that UC fans were right and the D was about Fickell. We’ll mud stomp Toledo and some will forget this happened but we probably shouldn’t.

Not all things are equal but last year after the first quarter FSU scored 9pts. This year they scored 18 in just the 4th. That’s put on notice bad. You don’t see a team for 3 Qtrs with the depth we have and shit the bed like that. He choked. I don’t think this will define him but he choked. Like something we haven’t seen since the choke artist formally known as BVG.

That's the thing...Lea didn't really have any bad games. He handled pretty much all the opponents he was supposed to. We were tripped up three times: ACC CG, Alabama, and the debacle in Michigan which was a total team failure. I don't think we were favored in any of those, even Michigan.

I didn’t watch the game but I just got done watching the 27 minute condensed game highlights. It looked like the d was pretty good through 3 quarters. I think it was mostly the team got tired to be honest. But they certainly looked violent and fast before then. Maybe I’m missing something. If there is one thing I’m concerned about is the ability to guard the RPO. That seemed to cause some problems.

Yea, Lea had some insane streak of games holdings opponents under 30. It took Freeman one game to not live up to that.

My tone last night probably felt more sky is falling as it was hard for me to grasp what was going on while still doing a fantasy draft.

I truly did not understand the scheme in the second half, especially after going up 38-20. I'd love to hear the communication going on and learn the why.

If MF is 1/2 the superstar he was billed as, he will learn from this and get better each and every week. Like many have said -- this isn't the AAC anymore. I have faith he'll get better. Question is how much better...

For those saying it was BK’s fault because he told Freeman to go prevent…huh?

ND had a three score lead when the 4th Q started. ND is 68-0 with a three score lead in the 4th. Overall, teams were 2,714-3 with a three score 4th Q lead.

BK didn’t tell Freeman to go into “prevent.” He, along with Freeman, know you just can’t give up big plays. But nobody says how you have to do it. BK wasn’t telling Freeman, “Go to a 3 man front, now!” How Freeman decided to change was up to him. After the initial 3 man didn’t work he should have immediately went back to the 4 man front. The fact he didn’t, three drives in a row, was the troubling thing.
That’s 100% on Freeman. Stop blaming BK.

My problem with the 3-3-5 is that it’s a fake defense. The only teams that run it are small timey or in the Big 12 where they play soft offense.

When we were doing the 4-2-5 earlier in the game with the “hybrid” being a larger guy like Prior it seemed to work pretty well. Lots of disruption, two big plays (one of which was ultimately some pretty good execution by FSU). Created three interceptions with Kyle Hamilton playing center field.

My biggest concern comes from the fact that our LBs looked slow without Liufau and that our DBs/LBs were not sure tacklers. That was the worst tackling we’ve seen in ages.

The problem with this style of defense was on full display last night. You can shut a team down over and over, but one bad fit and the other team will take one to the house. It's frustrating to watch at times.

I do feel like Freeman will learn from this. I think the entire team on both sides of the ball went into cruise control when they went up 18. But this has always been the case I feel with Kelly over the years, I don't ever feel like he steps on teams necks. But this is on everyone, from the players to the coaches.

FSU is better than last year's team, but ND made them look a little better than they actually are.

It was undisciplined and there were far too many missed tackles. I'd take a Clark Lea defense everyday of the week. Those teams were disciplined and sure tacklers.

Terrible outside contain far too many times. Just awful. Bad angles, out of control, lunging, etc. It wasn’t just the scheme change that was bad. There was poor fundamentals everywhere on defense.

I am looking at the whole game, ND passed with a win, so I will give Freeman a C.

With Freeman's defense we blitz a lot; too much in my opinion. I understand he has an aggressive defense, but too aggressive with the blitz.

B- through 2.5 quarters because of the bad tackling. F for the final 1.5 quarters because of the scheme change. D overall.

Hard to say. On one hand, Travis was so freaking slippery that we missed out on a bunch of sacks that other QBs wouldn't get away from. The other side is he seemed like a horrible passer and I'm afraid a competent QB would have lit us up last night. I'll go C because we won.

The reason I ask is because before the three drives for FSU to tie the game here are the stats:

FSU had 11 drives.
3 ended in touchdowns for 197 yards.

The other 8 went for 26 plays and just a net of 6 yards. 3 of those resulted in turnovers. That’s pretty damn impressive if you ask me. I’d give that an A- for the first game of the season with a new team you’ve never coached before.

I’m not sure what happened in the fourth quarter. Looks like a mix of fatigue and going to 3 down lineman. I have faith this guy will figure it out though.

A lot of it looked like players making mistakes. I suppose some of that can be chalked up to jitters considering the environment. I do hope they spend more time in pads this week. It just seemed like some of those guys weren’t used to playing at full speed.

I’m willing to let a lot slide from last night. Tough, hostile environment that would have been an L in the not so distant past. I’m concerned with the lack of tackling, but I’m also confident that guys were in the right place to make plays and didn’t. FSU has some talented athletes. Not the greatest performance but we will improve.

I'm way too old to get bent about a bunch of kids playing football at a school I didn't get a single course credit from.

I also sold my jump to conclusions mat at our garage sale in the fall before Covid. Talk about timing.

Anyone giving up on Lea or Freeman is the type of person that would take their perfectly healthy dog out back and shoot it because it sneezed one time. People really ought to grow up and act like adults. Not everyone can be as perfect as they are.
