Before it’s asked, I cannot answer why they had a Thursday afternoon game in the Big House.

It’s a “Classic” day at the Big House. Burnham is playing right now there also.

I'm glad you bumped this. I've been meaning to come here and post this, just kept forgetting. Going back to when the EE's were made available to the media. Sinclair and II were talking about his speed and quickness being noticeable in workouts. He's running sprints and competing with the faster guys on the team.

I remember ISD singling out Ziegler as being a better athlete than anticipated. Happy to hear, since I think a lot of fans underappreciated him come later in the process.

Ziegler will play more than Sneed in 2021.

Eyeball emoji.

Run down Rover/SAM - Botelho
Standard down Rover - Kiser
Pass down Rover if they can’t figure out Nickel/Dime - Ziegler

Any idea what’s going on with his absence? Wish the best for the guy. It’s a pretty big loss if he isn’t with the team this year. The Irish illustrated guys said personal reasons back home

We sat next to his family at the B&G game. Such nice folks who were super proud of their son to be wearing the blue and gold. His grandpa was especially proud. Praying for the best for him and his family.

Has there been any news on him? Is he back with the team? Sorry if I missed something. Didn't see him on the Navy depth chart, and I thought I heard the 247 guys say that they didn't expect him to be part of the team this year.

IB guys said a week or so that he is back with the team but dealing some personal issues. coach Freeman also said in a recent presser that he was back.

Saw an update on Ziegler. Had septum surgery. apparently suffers from sleep apnea. Surgery didn't go well, sinus infection.

Is better now, might get back on the field in a few weeks.

Sleep apnea can be tough to get rid of and it can have a big impact on an athlete's performance. Might even be a career ender if he can't find a fix.

I wish him the best and hopefully we see him soon. Love that this young man got his dream of playing for Notre Dame.

However, I find it kind of odd this wasn't just explained from the beginning like any other injury. Why the secrecy and hoopla about a family situation that kept him at home. That opened up a can of worms worth of speculation and conversation that seems very unnecessary given this news.

Because us as fans aren’t owed anything in regards to personal health information. If Nolan doesn’t want the information out there in the public, then that is his choice.
Tbh find it crazy that the schools release injury reports, unfortunately there is no privacy in athletics.

To be clear, I'm not saying we are owed anything.

What I'm saying is, the handling of a sleep apnea situation as a family emergency that he couldn't leave home for left the internet to speculate, unnecessarily, about many other things.

Just handled poorly by whoever made the decision to categorize it as such. I would rather have the world know I have sleep apnea and it's getting treated versus rampant speculation about my home life problems that don't really exist.

Just spit balling here Lucky. Perhaps the secrecy at the beginning came from the family not knowing what their plan was. Perhaps there was consideration of no surgery and not playing. They might have been meeting with specialists to find out what was even going on. Their uncertainty in the situation may have created the poor or lack of clear communication. Probably still could have been handled better from NDs part regardless.

As someone who performs sleep apnea surgery and septal surgery - septal surgery (septoplasty) rarely "cures" sleep apnea. It can really help with quality of sleep, however. Infections after septoplasty aren't fun. However, they can typically be cleaned up within a week with just oral antibiotics. Not really sure why he would have the surgery close to training camp. I guess I don't get how they went about this whole thing if it was just a post-op infection. Didn't he have to address the whole team at one point? This infection definitely could've been treated in South Bend.

Sleep apnea is really scary. Childhood neighbor of mine died in his early 30s due to sleep apnea.
