Dream school's ND

Is a double legacy. His Grandpa and Uncle (?) played for Ara in the early 70's.

Supposedly runs in the 4.5's.

3.8 - 3.9 GPA

His HC played & coached under for BK at GVSU. (How did they miss on Jalen Mayfield?)

At 6-4/205 going into your Jr year and running 4.5's... Pencil him in for a CB cuz it's gonna happen.

Peep the ND swag in every tweet.

We had a fullback in the late 60's named Ziegler, good inside runner. After reading the story I guess this is not the grandfather or uncle.

Tim Sullivan was there at the same time...another hard nosed guy.

Notre Dame Wheel Cover on the Jeep has to be a good sign amirite? I don't buy it though unless he has the ND Golf Bag.

I remember a lineman commit that had his truck all painted up ND before he flipped. A QB commit that carried an ND golf bag that never made it to campus.

Hey Cruz, Zig's Great Grandson? lol

That lineman was Tristan Hoge I believe. He made it to campus and was there for two years before transferring to BYU. Was it Blake Barnett that had the ND golf bag?

Come on Lea... offer him and lets get the D on the board first in '22 before McNulty gets Nickel next week.

Anyone else starting to get latter-years-Diaco-level-recruiting-effort vibes from Lea or is it just me?

I really just think he knows he is over stocked for LB for the next 2 years. There are a lot of LBs with 4 more years of eligibility left.

Not really, he's offered more than a few LB's already for 22'. Nolan just isn't one of them yet. Though I think he should be.

However, I do think the recruiting department needs some changes. Something is off right now. And, if I had to guess, it seems structural as it seems to be impacting most position groups.

Hawkeyes offer 2022 LB Nolan Ziegler

Class of 2022 prospect Nolan Ziegler added a new scholarship offer from the Iowa Hawkeyes today.

Blair Sanderson • HawkeyeReport

Class of 2022 prospect Nolan Ziegler has been staying in close contact with the Iowa coaching staff and added a new scholarship from the Hawkeyes today. For the 6-foot-4, 205-pound Ziegler, the opportunity came from lead recruiter Kelvin Bell, who sees the versatile Michigan native playing linebacker in college.

"I just called Coach Bell, like usual once every week or so, and today he decided to give me an offer," said Ziegler. "Iowa sees me as either an outside linebacker or a middle linebacker depending on how I develop over the next couple years."

While Ziegler is still learning more about the Hawkeyes, he says that he likes what he has heard so far and also has a family connection to the program.

"They are a great school and I think very highly of them," Ziegler said. "They aren’t too far away from home and I actually have three relatives who played there back in the 30s and 60s, which is pretty cool."

Those relatives would be an uncle and two cousins of Ziegler's grandpa, including Floyd McDowell, an offensive lineman at Iowa in the 1930s, Larry McDowell, a receiver and punter in the 1960s, and Lane McDowell, a defensive tackle in the 1960s.

As for Ziegler's recruiting, Rivals.com currently lists him at wide receiver, but most of his college interest has been on the defensive side of the ball so far, including all three of his major offers.

"I have been offered to play safety at Boston College, outside linebacker at Nebraska and outside linebacker at Iowa, but I think right now they are just waiting to see how I develop and want to use me wherever they can," said Ziegler.

Ziegler's full list of scholarship offers includes Iowa, Nebraska, Boston College, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Toledo, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and Bowling Green.

I think you beef him up quite a bit and make him an athletic Mike LB. His testing numbers would be quite good if he could keep them while adding the weight.

Agreed. Grandfather played LB at ND. Surprised an offer has not gone out yet.

He'll be an easy one to cheer for. This also isn't out of nowhere either. I believe he had a couple/few weekly phone calls is Quinn and then last week got on the phone with Lea. So this has been in the works a bit.

Sounds like he's in no hurry to make a decision, but Loy also put in a CB.

Cheeks and Ziegler would be a good, athletic linebacker pair.
