Well this is going to change the 'just jogging' narrative to 'he didn't deserve to die for being a burglar' real quick as his mother now confirms it was him. Messy.

https://abc7.com/ahmaud-arbury-video-killed-death-did-break-in-to-home/6172467/

It's really not messy. The guy was killed, and he shouldn't have been.

These two guys didn't need to go vigilante over a *potential* misdemeanor crime.

It's needless conflict escalation.

Even if you think a citizen's arrest over a suspected crime is reasonable, it's crazy that these guys would put themselves in a situation where they're confronting a guy that they think is dangerous enough to warrant the presence of multiple firearms to confront him.

If you're THAT worried about the guy... maybe just call the authorities?

I agree that they should have just called the police.

Ahmaud Arbery shooting video was leaked by one of the suspects: report

New York Post

Viral video of the shooting of unarmed Georgia jogger Ahmaud Arbery was first leaked to the press at the request of the dad now accused of his murder — because he thought it would make him and his son look better.

The ironic shocker — that it was ex-cop Gregory McMichael who leaked the very video that would expose the Arbery shooting to the world, leading to father-son murder charges — was reported Friday by WSB-TV in Atlanta.

The video shows McMichael standing in the back of a pickup truck as his son, Greg, confronts and opens fire on the jogger with a shotgun.

The McMichaels are white, and Arbery was black, and yet the dad, an ex-cop, leaked the video to a radio station two months after the shooting because he thought it would ease rising racial tensions in the South Georgia community of Satilla Shores, WSB-TV reported.

The stunning plot twist was revealed Friday by Alan Tucker, a Brunswick attorney who had informally consulted with the suspects, and who was previously known to have been the source of the video.
Tucker told WSBS-TV that leaking the video, which had been shot from a second vehicle by a pal of the father and son, was Greg McMichael’s idea.

I've walked in and around plenty of under-construction houses in my life while exercising and while house hunting. Especially the later. My uncle used to stop his car often and do the same (he has a construction business and just liked to look). Nobody ever called the police on him, or I.... And when I lived on the north side burbs of ATL, we had houses in our neighborhood under construction and all kinds of folks looked in and around during the process.

But key to the new video is that it shows him just looking, and he takes nothing. At most it's misdemeanor trespass which would never be prosecuted, and certainly not cuffed and stuffed for. It would be a ticket at most.

It's not messy at all. Pretty clear cut. GA law states that in order to make a citizens arrest, you have to witness the crime. By all accounts, they didn't witness any crime. Not sure if they even witnessed him on the house property, and even if they did, that's likely a ticket at most. He certainly wasn't running off with anything from the property. What they did equates to shooting someone for rolling through a stop sign. And being that one of the suspects is ex-law enforcement, the guy should be very familiar with GA law.

I think what makes it messy is that he charged the dude. Not saying he was right or wrong to charge the guy with the gun.

I dont know if the shooter legally did anything wrong in pulling the trigger but he is morally to blame at least.

I put myself into the kid's shoes. I'm a black man living in an area of GA where there's been historic Klan activity. I've committed no crime and out jogging. From what I can see, there are three white men in two trucks following me. One cuts me off. I try to run around the other side but I see a guy getting out of the driver side exiting the vehicle with a shotgun and yelling. You can bet I'm going to charge the dude and try to take the shotgun. I can't outrun two trucks, and I'm a sitting duck if I try to run from a shotgun. In a split second, I've made the decision to fight (defend myself) as I know flight isn't really an option.

Not saying these guys are Klan, not saying they were even racially motivated, and not saying they intended to kill the kid. But they were armed, stalked, and instigated the entire thing. The only thing that is messy is "intent". And I'm sure they're reviewing SM, and interviewing people to understand personal histories. If there's a hint at a racist past, it'll be pretty clean cut. I'm guessing the shooter will get anywhere between invol and 2nd degree depending on all the surrounding info.

YJ is right. His options were very limited. What these guys should have done is call the police and continue to follow him. Then let the PD handle it.

I got pulled over one time late at night. My GF at the time was living in a new subdivision, and we didn't have anywhere we could go neck so I'd park back in the undeveloped part of the subdivision so we could makeout. So, we get caught one time. Cop pulls me out of the car, I'm all of 16 at this time and try to implore that we weren't doing anything bad. He starts asking me if we're stealing construction equipment, like I've got a backhoe in the trunk. He pokes around the outside of the vehicle with a flashlight, then asks my GF a bunch of questions too. I tried everything in my power to convince the officer we weren't there to mess with construction stuff, but he wouldn't let it go for some time. It was a weird interaction, like...what do you expect two 16 year olds to be doing in a car in a secluded place?

Ahmaud Arbery case: Georgia man who recorded deadly shooting arrested on charges including felony murder
Barnini Chakraborty By Barnini Chakraborty | Fox News

William "Roddie" Bryan Jr., the man who recorded the deadly February shooting of Georgia jogger Ahmaud Arbery, has been arrested on charges of felony murder and criminal attempt to commit false imprisonment, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced Thursday night.

Bryan will be booked into the Glynn County Jail.

The death of Arbery, an unarmed black man, was thrust into the national spotlight after cellphone video recorded by Bryan surfaced on social media, prompting outrage against local law enforcement.

For over 10 weeks after the Feb. 23 shooting, the investigation idled as the Glynn County Police Department largely looked the other way, critics said. Calls for justice grew after the video was leaked.

Bryan, the 50-year-old neighbor of Gregory and Travis McMichael, a white father and son accused of murdering Arbery, has changed his story multiple times since the video of the shooting came out.

Bryan initially claimed he was being a good Samaritan by recording Arbery's death, though that description quickly came under heavy scrutiny.

"He is a liar," Lee Merritt, an attorney hired by Arbery's mother, told Fox News, adding that Bryan's story had changed from saying he was trying to trap Arbery to now "launching a campaign to clear his name."

"If he was a good Samaritan, he would have honked his horn. It's worth noting that on the video, he doesn't even flinch. He doesn't gasp. Shot after shot. He simply takes it all in," Merritt said

Arbery's mother, Wanda Cooper-Jones, also told Fox News she wasn't buying the "good neighbor" defense.

"Why would you videotape it? Why didn't he do anything to help? Why didn't he reach out right after the shooting? Why did he only come forward after the video was leaked?" she said during a telephone interview.

Reminds me of my youth. My GF at the time and I would go to a new subdivision all the time. Never had a cop approach us, but with the windows all fogged up his flashlight would have been useless! lol

That video raised a lot of questions as soon as it came out. I found it odd how he just happened to be there. I'm not sure what the law is, but it might be hard to make felony murder charges stick. Probably gets convicted of some other charge(s).

Yep, let's defund the police. And let's use the NYC no-bail policy everywhere. A social worker is just what this guy needs

He’s a registered sex offender who police say has been arrested about 65 times. Some include assault, harassment, resisting arrest and persistent sexual abuse. He’s due in court in July for arrests from earlier this year.

One killed another injured on the East Side (of course) in a shooting this afternoon. Following 5 shootings (2 fatal) last night. The homicide graph keeps going the wrong way - 200 so far this year in Indy. Joe Hogsett is a complete joke.

I keep telling my lady that in big cities it's best to look at homicides as a percentage and not a total number because the populations grow. Either way, it's not good for "lace them up Joe".

This is beyond F’d up. Of course the coverage will be skewed. There’s some dynamic to this story we don’t know.

Seems odd to execute a little kid. Have to imagine this dude won't last long in prison after his ass gets stretched out.

The big time media outlets are talking about this. It's bullshit. The media is the racist pig in the room. This should be the most talked about thing on here. I bet if it was the other way around some of you would be crying the blues.

It's a 5 yr old boy. This is as bad as it gets!

My impression is the killer was a previously convicted felon so not in legal possession of a firearm. So laws were in place and all - lots of good they did.

Oregon Gun Laws

Oregon Gun Laws

Oregon has
- Universal background checks (required under federal law)
- Extreme risk protection order (ERPO) law (red flag laws)
- Firearm prohibition for those convicted of domestic abuse

That's it.

https://lawcenter.giffords.org/gun-laws/state-law/oregon/

ERPOs are into their third year. Many counties have had none with the feeling that people's 2nd Amendment rights could be infringed. Law enforcement does not readily offers it as a resource and are not trained on, nor encouraged to use.

Oregon does not prohibit bulk firearm purchases, ban assault weapons, 50 caliber rifle, and large capacity magazines. There is no waiting period. Gun owners are not required to have a license except for concealed carry. nor register their weapons. Oregon is a "shall carry" state, meaning that law enforcement shall issue a concealed carry license if conditions are met. Restrictions include Including convicted domestic abusers, those under 18, convicted felons or those committed to the Oregon Health Authority due to mental illness. Concealed carry handgun licensing is reciprocal with Washington.

Ammunition sales dealers do not require a license nor keep a record of sales. Some types of ammunitions are banned. Oregon prohibits localities from superseding any of these, except cities can regulate their public places with codes. Police officers must have a valid, specific reason to ask pedestrians or motorists if they are armed.

Portland codes makes it illegal to carry a loaded firearm in a public space, including in a vehicle on public streets. Unloaded guns, however, can be brought into public spaces by their legal owners. People licensed to carry a concealed firearm can bring such a weapon anywhere in Portland including schools, except into a courthouse or on federal property. Those concealed weapons may be loaded.

City code makes it illegal to fire a gun within Portland city limits.

I'm assuming most heard about the shooting at the FedEx facility in Indy. The facility is FedEx's 2nd largest facility in the world. I drive by it often and it's huge. He was going to be able to kill quite a few before law enforcement could get to him.

The 19-year-old gunman who killed eight workers and himself at an Indianapolis FedEx center was a former employee who was placed under psychiatric detention last year after his mother reported concerns he might commit “suicide by cop,” police and FBI said.

Somehow he was still able to go out and buy a gun.

It’s almost like gun control laws don’t stop criminals and only hinder the law-abiding.
