I really hope that styles becomes our punt returner, would love to see ND have a dynamic PR the way bama does every year.

my #1 recruit on offense....he is dynamic and had osu not gotten the #1 WR for the past 3 years and signed a bunch of other 5* wr's, this guy would be heading there...he's a game wrecker as BK puts it

Don't know about that, he seems like a better ND fit anyways

Lo, Tyler, and Blake are as big as last year's Mayer, Tyree, and Johnson threesome. I think with camps and full seasons you would've been talking about 2/3 being five star level at least.

I think I'll get shouted out of here but I am now hoping he can be talked into playing CB.
Hand him the punt return duties and ask him to play D.
He could make a difference straight away at CB while at WR he probably wont get on the field until half way through 2022 and have 5 total catches by the time he is a junior.

My guess would be he’s an EE and turns heads at WR in the Spring. I’ll be the first to say that I think he’s more in the Will Fuller mold that gets run as a Freshman.

Folks forget that BK got both Fuller and Chris Brown on the field as freshman.

Chances are he is more of an every other wide receiver (has to wait his time) we have had type guy.
He will have Kevin A, Lenzy, Mayer, Keys, Davis, Tremble in front of him.

At this point, I've seen nothing from Keys to indicate that he is going to stay in front of a guy like Styles. It wouldn't surprise me if ND exits spring practice with Styles as the #2 slot.

That’s not even a full 2 deep, lol. I never said he’ll start but I’ll bet he gets PT. Fuller only had 6 rec. for 160 yards and 1 TD as a freshman. But it was the prelude of what was to come.

Will Fuller did not have top CB potential.
Lenzy did and we would be better off now if he chose CB rather than WR.

Hey, I get it. I was on the Styles could be a game changer at CB a long time ago. This isn’t a new thing. But, all signs point that to that not being the case because they love him at WR. If you pick up on what Freeman at ISD has been saying, this is an elite WR prospect.

Okay cool, but I expect he will be in the garage for 2 years. I don't believe anything about WRs until they are juniors.

Well, that probably depends on what your definition of the garage is. But it probably has more to do with your lack of perspective on Kelly’s WR versus Styles potential. ESB was close to a 1,000 yard WR in his second year. Will Fuller was a full blown superstar in his 2nd season. Corey Robinson was pretty productive over his first two. Heck, guys like CJ Sanders, Amir Carlisle, Tori Hunter, and Chris Brown were fairly productive in year 2. Then there is Kevin Stephenson who was a big contributor as a Freshman.

Some stats to support the above.

As Sophomores:
Fuller had 1094 yards and 15 TD’s
ESB had 961 yards and 9 TD’s
Corey Robinson had 539 yards and 5 TD’s.
CJ Prosise had 516 and 2 (second year on offense)
Davaris Daniels had 490 yards but 0 TD’s.
Chase Claypool had 402 yards and 2 TD’s.
Kevin Stephenson had 359 and 5. (Had 462 and 5 as a no name freshman).
Torii Hunter was 363 and 2
CJ Sanders was 293 and 2
Chris Brown had 209 and 1
Amir Carlisle had 309 and 3 (second year in the system)

TJ Jones had 62 catches his first two seasons. Went for 672 yards and 6 TD’s.

If you compare that to the opportunity the DBs get early (Love, Hamilton, Farley, Bracy, Lewis etc) he would potentially make a much bigger impact.

Well, it’s all hypothetical really. What does he want to play? Who’s on the depth chart in front of him?

Shifting from WR’s don’t do anything until they’re Juniors to there’s more opportunity at CB. That’s probably true but it’s a completely different conversation than you putting a fake artificial ceiling on his potential over the first 2 years at WR.

If we take one of the best WR prospects of the Kelly era and put him on D, then folks will just complain about not having playmakers on O. And if he can get to the high end of the numbers of those above, say 700+ and 7+. Then you can’t really fault the staff for having him on offense. Depth chart sets up extremely well for him to play a big role in 22’.

I haven't shifted. Those are the two angles of my argument. Firstly, new age BK (post 2016) does not play young WRs very much until they have his trust when they have a grey beard and secondly there is a lot of immediate need at CB and young DBs can make a big impact under BK.

Anyway, I'll quit I just keep seeing the impact Hamilton and Love etc made early. Imagine if we had Love, JOK and Hamilton in the same D.

There's a lot more to it than what you are insinuating.

Had guys like Stepherson or Austin not gotten in trouble, they'd have made huge impacts. It wasn't a hesitance to play young receivers that kept them off the field. It was their own actions.

It's also hard to expect a guy like Jordan Johnson to make an immediate impact when he didn't enroll early and the whole offseason was disrupted by COVID. Now, I'll be concerned if we're back here a year from now and he's yet to make an impact, barring something drastic.

Styles is going to have spring and a whole offseason to convince the staff that he needs to be involved.

This. It isn't like this is simply BK not wanting to play freshmen. So many factors and a number of them are out of BK's control.

Yea, he’s going to be a baller. I’m about as confident as I can be that he’s going to be a really good player.
