That's what we call a staged photo opportunity. "Racist" is probably too strong but it's race-based identity politics and it's ugly.

"Hey everyone... We're bringing the black kids in. Nobody mention the President is also black. We can't afford to look like we're race baiting".

Come on. Little black boy asking if Obama has "hair like his" is the intellectual equivalent of "if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon."

Yeah, it's totally beyond a little kid simply asking someone about his hair. Give me a break.
In the oval office? And it just happened to be photographed? And it just happened to become an anecdote in Michelle Obama's speech? Nothing these people* do is accidental, it's all crafted.

*By "these people" I mean every politician ever.

There's always a photographer present when guests are in the oval office. I'm sure that when the picture was taken (most likely years ago), someone told Michelle that it would be great to mention it in a speech at the 2016 convention). I understand that you hate Obama, but you're being ridiculous.

Every visitor to the Oval Office is photographed with the president -- particularly those of everyday citizens who are invited to meet the leader of the free world. An old Navy buddy of mine used to be a presidential photographer. When the President was in Washington, he would be parked outside his office and he would follow every non-staff visitor in to photograph the meeting. He would then send copies of the photos back to the visitors as keepsakes and enter the pictures into a massive database that documents the presidency. There is nothing odd or deceitful about this photo existing.

Of course not. I'm not objecting to the existence of the photo. I'm objecting to the timing of the tweet and the inclusion of the incident in Michelle O's speech.

Honestly, I don't care nearly as much as you all seem to think I do. She gave an excellent speech, I just felt that all the racial stuff was contrary to the platform of unity that Barack campaigned on.

You should have stopped while you were ahead. Like, around lunchtime yesterday. Ever since, you've been mainlining stupidity. Ha.

I wonder where he's getting his info? It doesn't take a mathematician to see crime is up. I'm sure we'll continue to get these type of nuggets from him until the election is over.

Just saying, it's pretty easy for crime to be "up" when the 2010's have had the lowest crime rates since the 70's.

Dude, you were killing her last night. Now it's an excellent speech? LOL.

The "racial stuff" from Michelle wasn't racist at all nor was it anti-unity. It was a message of "look how far we've come", and don't let some racist dictator-loving asshole backed by every white supremacist group in the country into the WH to ruin it all. (Relax Hillary-haters, that wasn't an endorsement of her - that is the anti-Trump message Michelle was making.)

I was looking last week for the Reps to make a great case for Trump. Other than his kids and some real estate dude walking around on stage like he was giving a best man speech (and sorry, telling me that Donald "flew me around on his helicopter" didn't make him seem like a normal dude to me), the entire convention was about how horrible Hillary was. Shockingly, last night more people made pleas for Hillary's character than the entire 4 days last week for Donald.

That was a mistake IMHO. Obviously my vote is anti-Trump, but there are independents out there in important swing states looking for a reason to vote for Donald and/or Hillary. The RNC decided to kill Hillary (no pun intended lol), paint a very dark picture of the country and not really focus on painting Trump in the greatest light. The DNC looks like it's trying to do both...hit the Donald as well as somehow make Hillary the champion of the people (lol). We'll see if it works. If they keep getting speeches like we heard from Booker and Michelle, it just might.

Yesterday, a poll showed Trump with a big convention boost. Today, another poll showed no convention boost. Neither poll was within the 3 points margin of error that for me makes polls legit. I;d imagine there's going to be lots of changes in the polls leading up to November.

I suspect if the convention continues on its current trajectory, Clinton will get a large bump by next week, which will serve as a foundation to build on moving forward. The next big, public events where people are going to pay close attention are the debates. Does anyone believe that Trump is going to compare favorably in the debates to Clinton with his complete lack of understanding of world affairs or divisive, mean spirited approach to domestic policy? Clinton's poll numbers are going to be maybe 10 points ahead of Trump's coming out of the convention and will only grow from there.

My problem with the DNC so far is they are just literally repeating the same 5 anecdotes we have been hearing about Trump for 6 months. Do they think people are not aware that Trump wants to build a wall and that he has called Mexicans rapists. It almost seems that they think people have not been paying attention at all. Have not given me a single affirmative reason to vote for Hillary besides the standard liberal policy regurgitations that I don't support in the first place.

They are 100% NOT appealing to independent voters like me so far. They are just trying to get their base out to vote. Maybe that's the right move but I think in this election they need to get the independents.

Those two have known eachother longer than you've been alive.

Let the grownups talk.

I've often been tempted to say the same to you, Wooly. Ranting about every opinion you disagree with and responding with nothing but insults & name calling instead of being able to actually refute those opinions with facts & thought is much more along the lines of what I'd expect from a teen than an adult. Perhaps it's you who should let the grownups talk about the serious stuff.

Excuse me?

He's saying you sound like an idiot. Like Michael Scott trying to get in on an inside joke but failing miserably.

Acamp and I are good - it's been like 7 years together on this site. And fwiw, I only call the racists, racists. It's not rocket science. When Trump-bots like yourself say racist shit, well, I'll speak out, and have no problem doing so. The anti-PC softies who are thinner-skinned than the pathetic PC crowd are the ones with a problem...
