Got to understand that there is no relative passage of time between scenes. You can't setermine how long elapsed between one scene and another, or even if they're truly straight chronologically.

Understood and agree but Dorne has to be a couple months journey from Westeros. Not beefing as I know thats kind of forbidden here, just my thought as I watched.

Wiz, you satisfied with how they saved the "intrigue" plotline in the North? Great decision to have Lyanna Mormont give the "North Remembers" speech.

I was fucking jacked during that whole episode.

So goddamn good. My favorite episode of the series, hands-down.

Everything was perfect. Even the way the music started and played with that piano through the whole first 30 minutes. It was a perfect buildup to that nasty green explosion.

Cersei was wearing clothes of mourning the whole time.... was that just her coincidental "Battle Dress," or did she know things might go all-the-way bad?

The only thing I'm NOT jacked about is the Sandsnakes being central to supporting Dany, but it makes sense based on how the books are setting up, AND based on history (Ellia of Dorne; Dorne/Targ alliance).

Also, it appears that Dany/Jon are setup to be the Stark/Targ rulers that Lyanna and Rhaegar were theoretically supposed to be. I've never really considered it in terms that were so simple.

What the fuck are you talking about? I've been praising the episode all night. The only thing I criticized was your dumbass comment.

You praised one actress and said you were excited for the show before it aired. It's pretty funny that is "praising the episode all night" through your glasses of the world. lolz

I wonder what Bran is thinking, Benjen just told him that he can't cross the wall because it would break the seal, and Bran already knows that the magic was broken in the weir tree up north.... why would he cross

The score for the episode was excellent and actually quite different than what we've heard previously. I really enjoyed it and it brought a great deal suspense to the Westoros scene.

As an aside... where is the thread betting on how Tommen dies? I'm pretty sure I called that to a T (or close).

They nailed the North, nailed Walder Frey, and I can't wait to see more Oldtown. I was less thrilled about King's Landing, as I thought Margaery and the High Septon were too smart to go out like that. Tyrion is also far less awesome than he used to be, but that's a product of my dislike of Dany the character and my wish that he was on a different "team."

Jon alone is Ice and Fire. Dany is unnecessary.

It's unfortunate that some really ignorant people poison what is otherwise a generally intelligent community. Anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see you're talking out of your ass.

Margaery was too smart. The High Sparrow was too stupid.

I give them a lot of credit for some restraint when unGregor was torturing the septa. They communicated Cersei's descent into madness without resorting to torture porn. It would have been unnecessary to actually SHOW unGregor tearing her apart and I'm glad they didn't.

Yeah, I thought it was fitting that it would go out with Margaery still being a step ahead (but that not being enough to save her)... and the High Sparrow believing his own hype.

I was thinking about that and trying to place this one. I think it's easily the best episode of the last two seasons. Before that, you have:

The Mountain and the Viper (Ramsey takes Moat Cailin, Jorah is revealed as a traitor, the Mountain and the Viper)

The Children (Jon vs Mance and arrival of Stannis; Bran, Meera, and Jojen arrive at the heart tree and are attacked and saved by the Children; Tyrion kills Tywin; Brienne vs. The Hound)

The Watchers on the Wall (Entire episode is the battle for Castle Black)

The Rains of Castamere (Jon leaves Ygritte, Dany takes Yunkai in a 3 second scene, The Red Wedding)

Blackwater (Entire episode is the Battle of Blackwater Bay)

Baelor (Robb agrees to marry a Frey, Jon gets Longclaw, Drogo nears death and Dany does the ritual to "save" him, Eddard is executed)

Those are the strongest episodes to me. This one is in that list somewhere.

Also, Miguel Sapochnik directed this episode. He's directed 4 in total. This one, Battle of the Bastards, Hardhome, and The Gift. More of him, please.

greatest episode ever?

Arya is a full blown bad ass now. I was so happy when she avenged her brother Robb by feeding Walder Frey his own sons and then killing him like that.

That little girl who plays Lady Mormont is a fucking awesome actress! Wow. That scene was unreal.

They finally confirmed what everybody kinda knew, Jon is not Ned's bastard, he is the true heir to the Iron Throne. He's half-Targaygen, half-Stark. A son of Fire and Ice. That needs to be revealed to the world, but how? Bran is the only living person who knows the truth. His claim to the Iron Throne is technically even superior to Dany's, who is his aunt.

Dany really going to battle her nephew? The Targs used to marry brother and sister, why not aunt and nephew? Think they about to get married.

Cersei is outta control. Jaime has been changing and I think this is the last straw with him and Cersei. To me it looked like he had a look of disgusting/contempt on his face for her at the very end. Wouldn't be surprised if he is the one who winds up killing her.

That was a really, really good episode. Super interested to see where they go with Jaime and Littlefinger and Sansa next season. That look between Sansa and Littlefinger at the end was intriguing... as was the one between Jaime/Cersei.

Now please let GRRM get out book number 6.

For some reason this has me thinking that Jaime will end up killing Cersei because she just goes so bat shit crazy...or she will end up killing him.

I think its Jaime that kills here and fulfills the prophecy. Otherwise if they kill off Jaime then you know its Tyrion. Jaime makes most sense because of their love for each other etc etc. Tyrion would just a Meh type moment and he has already killed their father.

well according to that prophecy that witch told Cersei when she was little, Cersei was to have 3 children who would all die before her and that she would be killed by the volanquar (sp?) - which means little brother in the Valaryian language or something like that.

They are twins but technically Jaime is her little brother, he was born minutes after her.

Think it's setting up for Jaime to take her out. He looked really disgusted with her at the end of the episode. Remember he killed the Mad King and his servants for trying to set off caches of wild fire to burn the city. Jaime looked pissed at her.

Just for the record, so is Tyrion.

Also extra credit for anyone who can make out what Lyanna said Jon's name was. Bets now are Aerys, Aegon...

Oh I know that Tyrion is also her younger brother. Actually there are theories that he's her half-brother, that Tyrion's real father was the Mad King who was said to be infatuated with Tywin Lannister's wife Joanna.

Tyrion killing Cersei would just be too obvious and not that shocking. She's always hated him and wanted him dead, tried killing him a few times, and he's always despised her. Plus Tyrion has already killed Tywin.

It'd just be way more of a shocking turn if Jaime who was her lover and father of her children wound up being the little brother that kills her and fulfills the last part of that prophecy.

As for the scene with Ned and his sister Lyanna, couldn't make out what the name was when she said it, but could hear her saying "you know that Robert will kill him if he finds out, protect him Ned."

What an awesome episode. So much interesting stuff set up for next season. That King in the North scene, with the Lyanna Mormont speech... Great stuff.

I guess I always thought you had to have access to the faces in the House of Black and White to disguise yourself as a Faceless Man, so I didn't understand how Arya was able to do that now that she has cut ties with the Faceless Men? I don't get how all that works, but whatever. Arya as an avenging, non-anonymous Faceless Man roaming Westeros is an exciting prospect.

Wow, truly one of the great episodes. At this time I can't say I've enjoyed any episode more but I also have re-watched any episodes from previous season recently. So with this episode being fresh, it's pretty tough to beat.

My highlights are similar to most posted already.

- Music was great. That was a fantastic way to start the show. Perfect build to the "oh shit" moment.
- lady Mormont
- Arya Starks scene was brilliant. There has to be more to why she kept trying to make eye contact with Jamie all night, right? Any thoughts on that?
- It did a great job of finishing some story lines and then building others for next season.
