I'm always surprised when people are "perplexed" about the decision process of 17 year old boys.
A 17 year old boy can still be raised with character, honor and integrity. To know that ones word is ones bond. Just because his family lacks those traits doesnt mean all 17 year olds do. At 18 years of age, boys have died defending America in wars so we can have the freedom to write these messages.
per someone on 247---his sister got a Georgia scholly for track
Ahhhhhhh...
Didn't someone post a month or so ago about his sister not having even close to D1 track times?
Yeah, but her brother is really good at football.
Wow... just looked, she is 50' short of the nearest girl in discus, and about 8' short of the next closest girl on shotput... wow
Those are great stats for CFB.........
LOL, i wonder what sort of arm twisting went on between Kirby Smart and the track coach
There should be some kind of rule about that. She isn't good enough to get a track scholarship from a junior college nonetheless a major D1 program. They essentially are buying Beal's signature for the costs of his sisters tuition. What's the material difference between that and paying for an apartment or paying a parent's bills?
It's bullshit.

If true, this is a slippery slope for the NCAA. Where will it end? Next thing you know a big time P5 school like USC will offer DL recruit's sister who is a small town basketball player a full ride. . . . wait, what?
...and then she's instantly put on a medical scholarship when she suddenly begins suffering from migraines.
There's no question in my mind, nor should there be a Q for anyone regarding the Beal sister situation. If reports are true, Georgia gave Beal's sister a scholly not because she excelled at sports but because she's Robert Beal's sister. If they both take the offer, I wish them the best, but YIKES!!! What a greasy situation..........This being said, Beal is my fave player in the whole class and we need him!

Most "Olympic" sports are not full scholarships - they are partial scholarships based on a percentage and usually adjusted year to year, typically based on merit.
Thus, if the team has 13 scholarships (arbitrary number I picked out of thin air) and 40-60 potential athletes, then her getting some money is probably (1) not that much and (2) certainly taking away from another person. Not all of those athletes are on scholarship, either. This helps boost participation numbers.
"Full ride" scholarships don't always exist beyond Football and Basketball.
I remember that we had discussion about this with Lax and the other folks. Just to give a concrete example of this. I remember being said that the hockey team only has 18 scholarships to go around. A college hockey roster needs to be around 25+ players... It's like that in every sports. There are just no athletic scholarships around to give. Financial aid and such might be better suited here...

No it isn't. They get 11.7 scholarships to be dived up between the team of around 35.
