Probably will end up the highest recruited Indiana RB since Lars Tate (UGa) was the Gatorade National POY in '84.

Ran for 1300 yds on 150 car w/ 17 TD's

From the Rivals / II / Ivins piece below (via Panda):

"Right now that would be my top school," Stepp said. "Just the atmosphere was crazy there, and I like the coaches and stuff like that."
"It would be big," Stepp said. "That would be like a dream come true."regarding IF OFFERED
"Coach Elston was telling my coach that he needs to get me and [2018 lineman Emil Ekiyor] up to a game there for a Junior Day or something like that and just tour the camps again," Stepp said.
"I'll be there for the Irish Invasion in June," Stepp said.

BIG offer. Timed it right too, didn't want to let him go up to MSU this weekend without having an Irish offer. This completely shades Sparty's visit. Wiltfong said Sparty was a legit player for him just yesterday but he CB'd him to ND as soon as he was offered.

Out of all 124 (I think) offers the Irish currently have out to '17, '18 & '19 prospects, this is the first one I'd lay $$$ on to end up in South Bend.

How good is he? No ratings for 2018 so I'm just guessing based on your guy's excitement he can play.

2018 Cathedral (Ind.) running Markese Stepp is quickly becoming the guy to know in the Midwest. The 6-foot, 190-pounder literally has connections to every top Midwest recruit on a personal level. We told you about Stepp already in talks with 2018 running back Jaelen Gill about playing together, so it was literally no surprise that he had been in contact with Jurkovec.
“Let me just say this,” Stepp stated. “Phil and I have talked about going to the same college way before he even committed. Phil and I are tight.”
Stepp will return to Notre Dame for Irish Invasion and Jurkovec is likely to be in South Bend for the camp as well.

How good is this kid? 90 rating, decent offers, not a crazy offer list though at this point.

He looks like Darius Walker redux, not particularly tall and doesn't seem to possess breakaway speed. He's also a sophomore so maybe that has something to do with it.

I watched the first 3 minutes of his hudl. Agree not great speed but adequate. Hard to tell what he is since I don't see the speed and he runs almost untouched in every highlight through the 3 minute mark. He is heavy at 210, maybe he'll be a power guy.

i think some places have him at 190. He is gonna be built by time he gets on a college campus tho.

I think this is a kid that you'll see get significantly more explosive as he matures. I like him quite a bit and I do believe that Phil committing will have a pretty big impact on him. I could see him committing this summer.

Stepp has the build that you want in a sophomore. The speed is there. He isn't going to run 4.4, but he doesn't get caught. I dont know if he runs as hard as AJ Dillon, but there are a lot of similar traits, with Stepp being the better athlete at this stage in their careers.

Agree, his highlights are pretty good for a sophomore.

Take it for what it's worth, because this came via someone who knows someone who knows the Stepps, but my understanding is that Harbaugh didn't leave a good impression.

JH asked if he could come sleep over, have breakfast, and go to school with Markese?

That's understandable. Otherwise that would be an oxymoron ... Jim Harbaugh and good impression together.

I would go to if I were him regardless of interest.

Chance to compete after a long off season I'm sure a lot of guys are itching to get on the camp circuit

I like this comparison. His sophomore highlights were pretty good and he certainly saw his running lanes. He knew when to bounce it out and when to cut. I'm with Grey and Lucky, I hope we see this young man to continue to grow into his frame. He was 15 or 16 in those highlights. Let's see how his junior numbers look but I think he'd be a great RB addition.
