Seems like a pretty dynamic football player to me.. I say lock the kid up early. He's not scaring anyone else away and somehow, someway we'll find ourselves with some room on the roster come go time.. We always do

Agreed, so long as his 40 time is legit.

I'd rather them hold off and land a RB with higher upside. I don't think he's got the versatility to be a lead back in this offense.

We don't exclusively recruit starters. You realize that, right? Sometimes we recruit for depth, sometimes special teams, sometimes we take a flyer on an athlete and figure out the rest later.

I would say that the staff recruits players they believe they can develop into starters. Otherwise what the hell is the point? Some 5 star players won't pan out, so you have to recruit someone that can fill that spot. Next man in. I also understand that they have to recruit players for certain roles - for example, the Nickel/LB role Dru Tranqill played or the APB/Slot that Amir Carlisle filled (the same role they are recruiting Damian Alloway for now). I would say they may have lower expectations for one recruit as opposed to another, but they still plan on developing him with the intention of him stepping into a starters role some day. If you have 5 running backs in 2017 with one spot and 3 slot receivers and perhaps 1 spot would you be willing to pick up Ali-Walsh knowing that it's over a year until NSD and there are recruits with much higher floors AND ceilings still available that may choose ND?

You can't honestly tell me that ANYONE on the staff recruited Fertitta thinking he would be a starter in the secondary. I think he's a pretty good example of a special teams specialist who would only be starting if things went terribly, terribly wrong. Which, unless one of the frosh step up this year, it just might.

the numbers, the school, the name, the speed (if true).

seems the worst we get out of this is solid depth, a huge name, and another strategic take from a powerhouse program.

for a team that struggles to maintain 85, I don't see the downside even if the kid turns out to be a special teams favorite.

First of all - I sincerely doubt Fertitta ever gets an offer in the first place if his father isn't Lorenzo Fertitta. Secondly, have there been any recruits in the Brian Kelly era - aside from kickers/punters and long snappers who primarily plan on playing Special Teams in their 3-5 years at Notre Dame? It's only been Fertitta to my knowledge. You would think that due to the attrition this year it would be obvious that you recruit players that can step in. That you would like to have as little drop of in talent as possible from 1 to 2 to 3 on the depth chart.

Getting into the 17 class...wtf ? Offer the kid and take him if he wants in. I remember when people said tranquill wasn't a take and pass on mccaffrey for higher rated backs...kids like these build and maintain a program.

Every year we fall short of 85 and after this years Rb injury situation ..ahh what am I missing?

He's a 3 star with offers from only UNLV and Louisville.

Take kids like this early and you end up in a situation like Michigan this year. Higher rated kids may want in. The coaches can either pull the scholly or take the lesser player - why not wait?

Don't just take a kid to take a kid. RB is a big need for ND next cycle and they will go after the big names first

Finished with the #11 score today at the Opening LA Regional. 112.98. Ran a 4.47 40. I was looking for a low 4.4 or maybe below but he had a great 3.95 shuttle. Also measured out at a full 5-10 and 186lbs.

Way too much talent still on the board to pull the trigger. Maybe later.

Sproles reincarnate.

Gonna be a bad miss down the road for us I'll bet.

Why will it be a bad miss for us? CJ Holmes is a better player. And we have much bigger fish to fry. Plus we don't even play Cal. If he tears it up it will be against Stanford and USC which is fine by me.

I'm gonna go on record and claim he'll have similar production to Cam McDaniel. Not a knock, just not someone that'll tear up college. I'll own it if I'm wrong.
