So, I've been rewatching the series so that everything is fresh in my mind as this new season progresses. I just finished season 2, which saw Jaqen H'ghar introduce the idea of the Faceless Men and how badass they are. However, it brought up a few questions for me, considering his introduction. He was in the cells beneath King's Landing, and is then taken by Yoren as property of the Night's Watch. He's in the wagon as one of the most dangerous prisoners, along with Rorge and Biter.
My questions:
1.) Why was Jaqen in King's Landing? We know that the Faceless Men have infiltrated everywhere throughout the land, so what was he doing in King's Landing? Hunting a name to cross off of his list, or was he seeking information?
2.) Why was he in the cells? Was it a rare instance of a Faceless Man screwing up, or was it intentional?
I assume he was purposely in the cells, because Jaqen H'ghar. But that brings up further questions:
3.) If he allowed himself to be improsed purposely, was it because he knew he would eventually be taken for the Night's Watch?
4.) If so, why did he want to go to The Wall?
5. If not The Wall, was it just so he could escape en route to The Watch, and go do more Faceless Man things? This one doesn't make much sense, considering he can change/disappear at will, so I assume he WANTED to be with the Night's Watch for some reason.
There's no way he could have known that he'd be travelling with Arya Stark, nor that he would have the opportunity to imbed himself with the Lannister troops at Harrenhall.
So what in the hell was Jaqen plotting when all of the action of GoT started? Something big had to have been afoot for a Faceless Man to have been in King's Landing, and for that man to then head towards the Night's Watch.
