Cass Tech crew enjoys Notre Dame visit
Several players from Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech took a visit to Notre Dame this weekend highlighted by the Irish spring game.

Two of the Technicians standouts already hold an offer from ND in the country’s No. 1 receiver per the 247Sports Composite in Donovan Peoples-Jones and Top247 safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell.

Two others the Irish will keep a close eye on in 2017 cornerback Donovan Johnson, who is one of the fastest defensive backs in the country, and Top247 2018 recruit Kalon Gervin.

Also making the trip were quarterback/athlete Rodney Hall, linebacker Otis Doss and safety DeAndre Square.

“They did a great job,” Cass Tech coach Tom Wilcher said of Notre Dame’s presentation.

“The interaction with the coaches and the kids, Brian Kelly really talked to the kids, he always took time out for them. That was really great. The coaches spent a lot of 1-on-1 time with them making them feel real comfortable.”

Notre Dame got both Kelly-Powell and Peoples-Jones on campus for the second time in the 2016 calendar year and are considered a top school along with the likes of Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State. The five-star Peoples-Jones is also looking at places like Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Tennessee as well as a few places out West.

"The experience was great because I got to be with the coaches and catch up with Daelin Hayes and Khalid Kareem,
Kelly-Powell said. "I took back a lot of great things but the most important thing was there network and education after football.

"I haven't narrowed it down yet but Notre Dame is one of the schools I'm considering."

"It was great," Kelly-Powell said. "To get to talk-to-talk with a head coach like that is unique and even to go on a tour like that with a head coach is unique. That doesn't always happen ... We basically got to see the stadium and how they are adding on to it. He was just describing all of it and the future, which was pretty amazing. He also talked networking and academics, and what a degree from Notre Dame means."

"We both enjoyed it," Kelly-Powell added when asked about him and his good friend Peoples-Jones' time on campus. "Just having a chance to talk with Coach Kelly — it's different in person than when it's over the phone. You're just being real with each other."



"It's a great school with great academics," Kelly-Powell said. "The coaches were just saying that they see me mostly as a nickel or safety in their defense with a little cornerback maybe. I like that"

"I got to see [defensive end Khalid Kareem] and [defensive end Daelin Hayes]. They both said that the loved it at Notre Dame. They were saying it's a lot of work but they were describing the classes and how they try to help a lot," Kelly-Powell said.

According to a couple of sources we've talked to, Michigan has established themselves as the heavy favorite for his services after multiple visits throughout the spring.

One source we talked to said that Kelly-Powell could be a Wolverine sometime in the near future and that it "may drag out to June". "Drag it out" being the operative phrase here; the staff believes they can close on this one sooner rather than later.
