Perhaps he was inspired by the spirituality of Notre Dame and was tweeting about wanting to become a "fisher of men"

...it could happen...

Makes about as much sense as any news on this kid recently.

Perhaps he saw the wonderful "Fisher Hall" and heard about the upcoming Regatta? FWIW it was perfect fishing weather, and even during the BG game I had a similar thought as him

Recruiting is a fifty pound shit bag, wrapped around a pipe bomb with a short fuse.

Enough to go round for everybody, and it smells bad enough before the bang . . .

That said this all is really rather hysterical.

one of his teammates committed to Maryland recently as well. He also follows a lot of the Maryland commits

It's actually that kid, Cam Spence, who left Gilman for IMG. It makes me feel better about our chances that Kaindoh did not. Don't see how you leave Gilman for IMG and then end up at ND.

If it's a smokescreen, the 247 guys are out of the loop. They've been flipping their predictions to ND to where we now have 40% of the picks.

This is like the California kid who doesn't have USC in his top 5 but goes there in the end. We could all name a couple of those.

Actually, this is the fruit of Maryland jumping into the Big10.

- culturally, Maryland now has more in common with the NE than the deep south
- That's what you watch on TV up there;
- OSU beat Alabama in 2015, so there is no argument that its clearly second rate football
- John Harbaugh is beloved in Baltimore, and his crazy brother is the highly-successful coach now at Michigan
- Penn State is the closest power

Maryland is clearly Tier II, BUT they have a little momentum with a new coach and they have the UnderArmor (Oregon of the Easte coast) thing going, ...

So it kind of makes sense, except for his not giving UMD a shout out.

I just assume that all the 5-stars from Maryland will be going to OSU these days, and I'm pleasantly surprised when they don't.

Smoke and mirrors.

Agreed. Loy has put out a few articles I believe, maybe someone can share his thoughts on this.

A Maryland mod checked in with him and said he put out this top 4 excluding Maryland because all of the talk the last few weeks was an imminent commitment to Maryland. So, doesn't sound like good news if he's trying to throw people off.

Wilfong says this could be Kaindoh trolling. Said everything points to Maryland being the favorite from the intel he's previously gathered.

However, Wilffy got a text from the HS coach that introduced him to Kaindoh, and the coach said he never understood why Maryland is the perceived leader. Said he believes the top 4 is legitimate.

Wilfong said that if Kaindoh doesn't commit to Maryland by next Tuesday, he'll but it's a PSU-ND battle with OSU and Michigan looking to make up ground.

Wilfong still thinks he goes to Maryland.

his HS coach owes reporters nothing, and would be in his best interest to go along with Kaindoh's wishes.

His high school coach also coached in Indiana for 5 years. Wiltfong and the coach probably have a good relationship, as Wiltfong lived in the same area and Carmel is one of the best programs in Indiana.

So I agree, the coach owes nothing to the media, but there is a background there that suggests the Wiltfong and the coach might be closer than most.

I'd like to reiterate that after Wilfong texted with the Coach who said the top 4 seems legit, Wilfong still says he thinks he goes to Maryland.

Which is kind of silly since he CB'd him to ND yesterday.

I am starting to lose all faith in Wiltfong. Let me get this right, first he throws down a CB for Maryland and then when Kaindoh comes out with his top four and Maryland is not in it he quickly switches the CB to ND. He still thinks he is going to Maryland though, this is all ridiculous i am going to demote him to Loy level.

My theory is that he jumped the gun when Kaindoh released the Top 4 without Maryland, and just assumed ND was the beneficiary. Then everything started leaking out that this was just a ploy by Kaindoh to do whatever the hell it is he's doing. So now Wiltfong is trying to cover his butt by acting like he had some legitimate source for throwing the CB down for ND. Now, he's trying to slink away from that prediction so he can switch back to Maryland, hopefully in time to keep his percentage up.

Wright coached in Indiana for more than five years. He won 3 state championships at Warren Central back in the early 2000's.

Other analyst just continue to throw down CB for ND but no one has any confidence in what they are doing. Until i hear or see anything concrete this all means NOTHING. Haha

I would love to be a member on the ND 247 board, just for one post:

Why in the hell do you people pay money to get "inside info," when the actual info is either out-of-date or wrong?

How many times have we heard that 247 was "sitting on this information" for weeks or even months, but they don't deliver that information to the people that pay for that access?

What in the hell are you paying for, if it's not the inside scoop haha?

Just saw this comment from someone on a Maryland site. Makes the most sense of anything I've seen thus far:

"I thought the message that I was hearing coming out of the sites pretty much lined up with what I was hearing which is why I have been openly bullish about our chances. A lot of the intel at the time that resulted in people publicly predicting him to come here was based on legitimate buzz from people at the high school and college level that he was going to commit to Maryland. It wasn’t some opinion based speculation behind the predictions. I think it’s a case of kid trying to build up suspense behind his decision. I agree there probably is nothing fishy here. I still think Maryland has a really really good chance here. You don’t visit a school 4 times in a week and then send your father to meet the head coach two weeks later to turn around and leave that school off your list for 2 schools that you haven’t visited within the last 5 months (hasn’t visited Michigan since November of last year and hasn’t visited OSU since June of last year)."

I think it's funny that people get upset about the handling of CBs for a couple of reasons. 1) they're the only site I know of that's doing them on top of the baseline intel/stories. And 2) Wilfong can make 250 predictions a year and handle the with legitimacy (albeit not always end up being right), and he does one weird one like this and all of a sudden he's a clown.

Wilfong has probably written 5 stories this morning and changed 20 CBs. He probably forgot he switched Kaindoh's CB to ND before making the Maryland comment. It's not like he's sitting as his desk only waiting for movement with Kaindoh, he's a national analyst.

I don't really care what the excuses are or what the reason is, plain and simple: In my time following ND recruiting, a Wiltfong CB has gone from gold to meh.

I don't really care, because the kid is going to end up where he ends up, but I remember about 2 years ago when Wiltfong said someone was going to end up at ND, they usually did. It seems like now he changes his predictions a couple of times a week and it just doesn't really mean anything anymore. I'm not complaining about it, because I don't pay for 24/7. But yeah, as a casual observer of recruiting, a CB by Wiltfong means absolutely nothing now. It seems like 24/7 has devolved recently into being more clickbaity then they used to be.

I still maintain this is far better and more accurate than anyone's CB's.

I hear you. I just feel like people should read the stories themselves and draw their own takeaways, since that's what all other sites do, and take the CBs as an added bonus (or joke if you want to look at it that way).

Then this must be a great joke he is playing. I don't know if the CB's are worth anything or Wiltfongs are in particular, but Steve and Loy are not the only ones throwing in the CB's for Josh to ND.
