The New York Post (lol) is "reporting" that the recently discovered Planet 9 could send asteroids toward Earth, causing another mass extinction event.

Perhaps the Sweet Meteor of Death is formally announcing its candidacy? #SMOD2016

I'm with goirish on this. Are you really saying that's not true?

Perhaps it's not the best leadership tactic to have the (supposed to be) leader of the entire country calling out, and pointing fingers at, another race during a time when racial tensions are higher than they've been in a really long time?? Like,... Just maybe?? That entire portion of that statement didn't need to be there, and didn't impact his overarching point at all... But he still just had to add it didn't he?...

It'd have been nice if Obama said what, specifically, "systematically and purposely makes it really hard." Because I can guess at what he means, but that's an incredibly amorphous statement.

The history is true but no longer. The civil rights crowd refuses to recognize that they won. The Struggle (TM) is over.

So, this is as good as it gets for them? Over-incarcerated, poor, worst schools, singled out by police, worst housing, fewest job prospects. I bet they expected more from "winning."

You are too smart a guy not to understand that there is another world beyond your own personal experience. This is a pretty near-sighted view of racial realities in this country.

Being poor and black is not the same as being poor because you're black. I recognize that there are lingering effects of institutional racism in our society but the institutional racism itself is over.

So why are so many more black men in jail for the same crimes white men commit at the same frequency? Why are schools in back neighborhoods, as a rule, worse than those in white neighborhoods? Why is the black unemployment rate so much higher? When did the institutional racism end, exactly? I must have missed it.

How about the fact that having a black sounding name makes you more likely to not get hired.

My God you guys can be so pedantic. No, systematic racism has not been 100% eradicated without exception. But I believe that yes, it has been materially eliminated.

Yes, why would we assume that your words mean the things that they say.

Really? They're being pedantic?

And how do the things they mentioned fit into the narrative that it has been materially eliminated?

All them black families broken up by mass incarceration is a fairly substantial "exception."

Bullshit. 71% of black babies are born out of wedlock. That's not racist cops destroying black families, that's black families destroyed from the start.

I'm not denying it's a problem but that doesn't mean the problem is racism.

See my next post. If for no other reason (as a Bernie supporter), the Supreme Court nomination is enough to vote for her.

The only way I'd vote for her is if the Republican nominee is Cruz. Then, I'd have to. But other than that, cannot vote for that woman. Just can't do it.

Must be some kind of crazy coincidence.

Was he wrong? You can say he didn't put it like you would prefer, but his point was distinctly correct. He didn't point the finger as much as gave an example that is evident in society.

It's not like called white people rapists...

In your opinion...

He gave a pretty succinct reason why a democrat would be hurting themselves with that vote. The justice he would put in place would be the complete opposite ideology as you, if you are indeed a democrat. It wasn't an opinion. You can disagree, but you better have an actual reason on why his real example is incorrect. Otherwise your comment is completely blowing off a real fact he pointed out for you.

I would say 'white folks didn't want women and minorities to....' is not accurate and an irresponsible generalization of an entire race of people.... So yes, he was wrong, but that wasn't even the point...

Well, maybe you should read the quote again. He said that we have that as historical precedent. Are you saying that white men didn't obstruct minorities from voting in the past? That's simply innacurate.

How about the huge number of white men that couldn't vote for the first 70 years if they didn't own property.

As we compare the incarceration issue...one that comes up is powder cocaine vs. crack. Well, I was around for the crack epidemic, and I saw black and white people screaming for law enforcement to target crack, crack dealers, crack houses...etc. What they had in common was they lived in these communities. The cry was to get crack under control. No one could handle the volume of people to be able to rehab them all even if they wanted to, so a lot of folks were incarcerated...and laws were changed to keep them off the streets. I still contend that the outcome did not at all have a racist intent, yet delivered disparity. Having left the laws as they were...and people in jail for a long time after the crack epidemic was controlled...yea maybe you could derive some racist intent there...but most inner cities are maned by black mayors and black city councils...could they organize to change the laws and release simple users? They all racist too?

He did kind of mentioned that. Stating "first propertied men". Did you read the quote?

Yeah but then he just generalizes to "white folks", by that logic black men didn't want women to be able to vote after they got their voting rights.

He didn't generalize anything. He used a historical example.

Also, you literally have zero idea on whether black men didn't want women to vote nor does it have any context regarding the quote.
