I hope he goes to the Pats for his sake. They would know how to use him.

I don't want to start another debate, but C.J. Procise would certainly be a candidate for Notre Dame Man. Signed as a Safety, converted to a Slot Receiver, and Switched to Running Back C.J. was always willing and able to do whatever was asked to help the team. In the NFL he could be a dual-threat running back/receiver in the mold of Theo Riddick. Josh Adams certainly had a great season for a freshman, but C.J.'s ability to adapt quickly to his new position had a lot to do with our 10 win season.

Our failure to address recruiting needs on an annual basis often leaves us lacking depth at certain positions. Versatile athletes like C.J., who are willing to do what the team needs, are a key to our success on the field.

With the way our guys tend to fall that probably means 4th or 5th.

What guys tend to fall?

If anything teams respect BK's development of players and they go earlier than expected.

Stephon Tuitt. Troy Niklas. Louis Nix. Manti Te'o. All went below their late-season/end of season projections.
To be clear, I don't put that on Kelly. It's not his job to prepare players for the NFL so much as to win college football games. And I think he does a good job developing players, and Prosise is a prime example.
Also I think our guys tend to be over-rated in mock drafts because we're a high-profile, big-name program. Not a lot of "hidden gems" on our roster. Once the NFL scouts have weighed and measured all the small-school guys they're pulling from a bigger pool.

Niklas went below his? I thought he went above. He was a 2nd rounder. I thought he was a 3rd or 4th round projected TE?

As for the rest. They had outlying reasons as to why they dropped. Nix and Tuitt both had underwhelming final year campaigns. Both allowed themselves to gain a lot of bad weight, which severely affected their play, and both dealt with injuries, Nix's ended his season early. Te'o's stock dropped after the catfish scandal, so unless Prosise's British girlfriend is all a figment of our imagination, I'm sure his stock won't be affected.

Here is my take. The rest of our guys are in the 2016 draft thread

My NFL grades/opinions/projections:

Jaylon Smith
Draft Grade: Elite top 10 pick if healthy (obvious)

Opinion:Reminds me of Robert Quinn pick by Rams. If a team has the patience they will be rewarded greatly.

Ideal landing spot: Green Bay Packers

Ronnie Stanley:
Draft Grade: Elite top 3 OT

Opinion: Plug and play for a decade plus player that could see some pro bowls

Ideal Team: Bears

Sheldon Day:

Draft Grade: 2nd rd

Opinion: I really cannot wait to see Sheldon Play for a good defensive coach and have a supporting cast playing around him.

Ideal Team: Seahawks

Will Fuller

Draft Grade: 2nd rd

Opinion: Boom or bust possibility. All speed and no hands. In the right situation with the right team he could really prosper.

Ideal Team: Tie between Chargers and Ravens. Both teams have a very good QB with a cannon.

CJ Procise:

Draft Grade: 5th rd

Opinion: Played half a year at a position he never played before and is now leaving early for the nfl. Yikes! CJ is one of my favorite players so don't take this the wrong way, but this is a bad decision. I don't care how many rb's are coming out next year or how many we have coming back. This is horrible for all parties.

Ideal Team: Patriots (needs a team that can find a way to develop him and utilize his talents)

Niklas went a round earlier than expected. Tuitt went where expected. Nix went a round lower than expected, but it seems like the correct choice now. Te'O fell because of the cat fish scandal. You left off that Watts got drafted in the 3rd round which was higher than expected. Bennett Jackson got drafted in the 6th, where most people predicted he wouldn't get drafted at all.

There's always some reason. But those are most of our high-round picks in the last few years.
Prosise has dealt with injuries that ended his season early and has, really, very little experience at his (apparent) position of running back. Not saying he will fall. I don't know. He's a talented and dangerous player. But it wouldn't shock me at all if he winds up a third-day pick.
And you're right on Niklas, he got a draft grade of 2nd to 4th round, was generally projected 2nd or 3rd, and went in the 2nd.

<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

“He wanted me to come back,” Prosise said of the seventh-year Notre Dame head coach. “He talked about me coming back and how it would be better for me if I came back.”

But when he discussed the decision with his family, uncertainties overshadowed the positives behind returning. The Irish's three starting receivers--Chris Brown, Will Fuller and Amir Carlisle--were all departing, and freshman running back Josh Adams emerged as a strong contender for the starting role in 2016. Senior Tarean Folston, who began 2015 as the starting running back, would also be back after recovering from an ACL tear.

“Talking with my family and just kind of that uncertainty of not knowing if I was going to be—with Will (Fuller) leaving, Chris (Brown) leaving, and at the time Corey Robinson, they thought he might not be coming back either,” Prosise said. “With that, I’m thinking maybe I’m moving back to receiver now because our backfield’s not hurting much. So in talking to my family, we thought the best decision was to come out.”

That's interesting. And hard to see how he would have gotten more touches next year, really.
The thing about Prosise as a receiver is that catching the ball downfield was never really his strong suit. He'd probably fit best in the slot, which is where we already have our best/most-proven returning receiver in Hunter.

I think Torii might shift to Breezy's spot and CJ Sanders might be taking a bulk of the slot reps (or Demetris).

This is what I'm hoping for. ESB at fullers spot, Hunter at Browns spot and CJ sanders in the slot...pair that wth Folston and Adams and Alize Jones it's just nasty.

I think moving Prosise back to slot would have been a waste of his talent. He was obviously a natural running back. I never thought he was terribly effective as a receiver ... unless he was running the ball.

Don't forget Smythe.

I see him snagging some TDs this season for sure. He's who we missed most in goalline passing.

I love Jerome Bettis!

To death! (Figuratively.)

Everything about him.

(Of course, I am prejudice; he was running the ball in his last game, Super Bowl 40, Pittsburg against Seattle, when my youngest son was born. I mean, literally. In the first quarter on the Steelers first drive, they kept giving the ball to Jerome, and he kept tearing the Seahawk defense up inside.)

But that ain't all of it. The guy is a true champion, and has a heart of gold! (Dark navy and gold?)

I remember when he didn't like speaking publically very much. Obviously, that has changed, tremendously!

And it occurred to me that Jerome and CJ are cut from the same block, even though it appears Jerome is a much bigger piece!

But they both have that same 'it,' two of the most electric three year players at the Dome.

I wish CJ gets a chance to emulate Jerome Bettis further, and has the same success in his career, as well!

Here is to two Irish Gentlemen and Warriors!*

* You will never hear me use that pansy-assed Michigan ripoff, "ND men!" These guys are all Irish, and therefore Fianna, (long live Fionn mac Cumhaill!)

And, oh, while I am at it FUCK MICHIGAN!

Didn't expect that. Knew he was fast, but thought it was all in second and third gear, with an outstanding overdrive!

That is a front to back speed demon!

I think he is particularly well prepped for his interviews, and I expect them to far surpass anything he brings to the table from the physical end, even though those are impressive enough!

Big fan of the Bus, always was my favorite back. There's something about a big, bruising back that can run people over. I'll take that every day.

Who is this Betis of whom you speak?

Perhaps there is a need for names on ND football jerseys.
