This is truly just absurd to follow at this point. Stanford is either lying to a kid they know can't get in and stringing him along specifically to ensure he doesn't go to a rival OR they're selling their soul on admissions and breaking every protocol they have letting a kid apply MONTHS after their deadline. Either way, not a good look for a school that constantly espouses being "above" college football and "not compromising their integrity or academics." What a sham.
What we did allowing Tee to EE before he was fully qualified (if that is the correct story) was much worse IMO. And I wouldn't say ND "sold their soul" or that the situation was a "sham."
Also, is this really much different than essentially "wait-listing" the kid? They have his full transcripts. If they're not just stringing him along, it's just a simple yes or no in March. I believe normal high school students can re-take the SAT if they're waitlisted and then send those off to admissions to boost their case. Plus, it's not like he couldn't have committed elsewhere on NSD if he wanted.
I just don't see Stanford as the bad guy here if they're truly still interested in the kid. If he couldn't qualify for ND with his SAT, we'd be praising ND if they let him re-take in March and would be doubly praising Robertson for wanting to re-take the test and not take the easy route and pick an SEC school on NSD.
This is a weird and annoying recruitment to follow, but I'm not really seeing a bad guy anywhere here personally.
