He would only move to the left if Kizer won the QB race, yes?
Would prefer Mike to stay at his current position. The difference between LT and RT is not what it once was thought to be.

Bars will likely be starting anyways at Guard if Elmer quits.
McGlichey, Nelson, Mustipher/Hoge, Bars, Bivin.
I hope Bars is the same after the injury. A broken foot for a big man is no joke, and it happened real late in the year. Wonder how he's progressing.

You need your most consistent and reliable pass blocker on the blind side. The disparity between salaries in RT and LT are tremendous, most likely because there are not that many left handed starting QB's in the league. If McGlinchey is the teams best pass blocker, he damn well better be on the quarterbacks blindside.
Serious question:
Let's say SC plays the whole season against right handed QB's and their All American DE lines up across from the LT in those games. What happens when ND comes to LA and Malik is the starter? Will their All American DE shift line up above the RT for that game to get at his blind spot?

Final Word
There's a lot to digest here, but it can be summed up rather quickly. The right tackle should no longer be viewed as the athletic inferior to the left tackle and teams should change their team-building strategy to make this happen. Today’s passing NFL makes it a necessity to have two competent pass protectors on the edge and when scouting players, if a tackle is deemed to not be good enough to play left tackle, well you’re better off just putting him at guard rather than exploiting him at right tackle.
Advanced statistics have shown the RT position is no less important then the LT position.

In college, I honestly dont think it matters as far as LT/RT. Sure, you def want to protect the QB's blindside, but why was Stanley LT to start 2015 with Zaire and you had a RT in McGlinchey that had started 1 game in his career.
I think if Notre Dame was running a more pro-style offense, it might come into play, but in BK's offense vs college defense it's fine.
Perception is why Stanley was moved but as advanced statistics show, your RT needs to be as good as your LT.
My point is that don't move Mike just to move him because you think he's more valuable on the left side. He's been on the right for awhile now so just leave him there. There are others who are good enough to fill in at LT.
So do we all think this is Big Mike's last year?

This is what I'm thinking. That way if Elmer is gone, you have Big Mike switch to the left and that way the right side grows together. Or is that too much inexperience on the right side?I could very well see that. If Stanley has a good rookie season, then there certainly is a precedent being set with him and Martin, that ND lineman are getting prepared well for the pro game. If Mike has a good year (oh... and he will), then the precedent paired with his measurables (6'.7 1/2", 310#) make it a no brainer.
I think a good year earns him a high first round grade.

Kind of like a Lane Johnson but more physically ready? And remember, he is fast. Fast in general, blinding by a lineman's standards. That will translate to gotta' have for any NFL team that pulls, or traps a lot, as well as pass protection against a pass rush specialist.

CBSsports should shut down this draft tracker if they think McG isn't on the first page.
Also, #2, #3, #4 all had ND interest but no offer. Bad look to see Andy Heck's kid at #3 and he never got an offer.

Nelson pretty much announced McGlinchey will be our LT
