Sounds like an awful lot of fake money to bet. Is there a VBuck gamblers anonymous support group on Irish Envy?

Kirby Smart has his in-hime with DR today. As GB said a few posts above, the Notre Dame staff will see him Thursday. The visit was supposed to be today but they moved it to Thursday (I like the move); Denbrock, Sanford, and Booker will be in on the visit. Per 247

Is it crazy to think that Sanford might be as good of a closer here for us than BK.

I just really like his charisma and seems to be a hit with recruits and parents.

I don't think he's quite at that level yet. He's a very good recruiter and I'm really glad he can use those skills to get QBs; for example, he's been on 2018 5:s: QB Phil Jurkovec like white on rice since the summer. I need to see Sanford land a few more kids before I compare him to BK from a recruiting standpoint

Not being a smart arse here, but none of us are at those visits. Sanford could be every bit as good or better than BK when it comes to recruiting.

Exactly.

He SHOULD be better than CBK. Look at their resumes. CBK was NEVER a DI assistant coach. He was only an assistant at GVS for 3 or 4 years after coming from DIII / NAIA. Sanford has been a DI assistant for @ 10 years already. His resume is going to be more like Saban's or Meyer's who were both assistants for more like 15 years.

Anyone know how Kirby Smart's in-home went? I haven't been able to find anything on that.

The ND staff can really lock things up with a good visit tomorrow

You're kidding right?

I'm not sure I understand your argument.

Are you saying the Sanford is a better recruiter than BK simply because he has spent 10 years as an assistant coach at the D-1 level?

From everything we have heard and seen, BK seems to be a really good closer. I'm not sure that having experience as an assistant would have made BK a better recruiter than he is now.

BK has proven he is a winner and shows he knows how to run a program.

He has won at every spot he went to and leads in active wins.

I'll take that over assistants with no HC experience.

I think what NDC is trying to convey is that assistants spend more time than HC's recruiting so they should be better or at least as good as the HC when it comes to recruiting. We've all heard BK appears to be a good closer. The point was simply that Sanford may be a better recruiter than BK. Nothing wrong with that. It's like having two chicks, one's a ten and the other is a nine.

Sanford may very well be as good as, or an even better recruiter than BK. I feel like the point was Sanford is better because of his experience as an assistant over BK's experience. I don't know that I agree. Different personalities/skill sets may be the difference. BK's experience at the lower level as a head coach, with a drastically lower recruiting budget, would have given him some great experience that head coaches at the D-1 level don't get.

Ultimately I do agree that Sanford shows the signs of being a great recruiter...

Because this board would melt down and we would all have to hear about how the coaching staff blew it!

What makes you say that?

Because they've spent so much time on this kid; if they're gonna spend that much time they better land him. 2 weeks ago, our NSD was looking like a day full of action as it looked like we were about to land Caleb Kelly, Demetris Robertson, Nate Johnson, and Jon Jones. Just landing Jon Jones would be somewhat of a disappointment in my book.

A poster on 247 said that he is 100% going to Georgia Tech this weekend and pretty much the whole family is going. This is coming from the Georgia board. Not much on the UGA visit.

I agree.

Jmo the longer this goes the worse it gets for us.

I'm not worried about Georgia Tech at all. It would be a waste of talent for him to play in that kind of offense. D Rob going to Georgia Tech would be similar to Stefon Diggs going to Maryland

I agree, especially considering some of the good players ND passed on along the way as we felt so good about where we stood with our board. I'll be happy with the class overall and its something we can win with but it would once again be a poorly evaluated close to the class.

What else were they going to do? Spend a bunch of time on a marginal guy that they don't want?

They covered their bases by going after Nate Johnson, but now it appears that Johnson isn't a possibility. So I don't think you can use the amount of time they've spent on Robertson as a reason to get worked up if they don't land him.

They are all-in on the guys that remain on their board that they have realistic shots at. Spending a bunch of time on Robertson and then not landing him doesn't signal a huge issue, IMO. The only one that would be questionable is the lack of focus on Alloway, and there have been plenty of people hinting that interest was going to fall off no matter what with him.

Who else is there that they could have pressed for in favor of this last minute push they've put on Robertson?

I agree with this 100%. when you have under 10 throws a game why would any top Wr want to go there. Because it sure isn't going to change. My worry is the more time UGA has the worse it gets for us.
