You say that likely because he loves to act like a hard ass, but he honestly just comes off as the biggest douche nozzle.

To some, I have no problem with him marching to the beat of his own drum, and find him entertaining and refreshing. I'd play for that man in a heartbeat.

I respect him. Everyone says 'IDC what people think'. But the only 2 people I'd believe that from are Jim Harbaugh and Kobe Bryant.

I seem to remember you posting that more than once on this board!

He's just hyper-competitive, which is annoying in every facet of life accept when he's winning your team football games.

Agreed, I have had the good fortune to spend a little time around him and I would say that most kids will understand that he is a very sincere person. Like NDCrusader said, maybe a little flake but not fake. He has "it" and he is someone you would go back to back at the Alamo with.

I appreciate someone with talent that will actually be remembered 25 years after they're gone for not caring what was expected and doing it their way, while staying within the rules. So many people are successful, but join in with the militaristic march that's the status quo and with not knowing them personally, it's boring to me. Harbaugh is a baller and I appreciate him for it.

he is a hard-ass. It's his way or the high-way and kids that don't like it won't be at Michigan.

It works for him because he wins. If he didn't have great success at making teams better almost overnight everywhere he's ever gone, then it'd be one thing. But he has a track record of winning. Players want to win. Winning cures all ills.

He took a QB that Kirk Ferentz thought was too robotic and conservative and didn't want and thought couldn't play and he took a bunch of kids that Brady Hoke went 5-7 with and turned it around to 10-3 his first year on the job, and really would've been 11-2 if not for a flat out crazy flukish play to end the MSU game.

I know he rubs a lot of people the wrong way, but I don't know how anyone can doubt him. His track record is proven all the way back to USD to Stanford to 49ers to his first year at Michigan. Everywhere he goes he just wins a lot of games. The man is a hell of a football coach.

I blame the media for this type of sh1t. I am sure a ton of coaches do goofy things to stand out. Just sucks for Harbaugh that every move he makes is documented. He's just a flat out weird dude in general so this doesn't surprise me

I fully expect Harbaugh to win a championship at Michigan if he's there for the long term. He turned Stanford into a perennial powerhouse for f*cks sake. Imagine what he can do with Michigan's talent.

there is a lot of truth in that. You don't hear about it every time Urban Meyer or Nick Saban do an interview or hold a camp or recruit a kid. Media likes to sensationalize and create stories out of non-stories.

And you're right, he's a weird guy. I mean for christ sake he met his wife ordering take-out at a Chinese restaurant or something like that and then he begged her for her phone number and then called her like 13 times in a row before she picked up the phone. Who does shit like that? Seriously.

I genuinely believe he is on the Asperger spectrum. Does this sound like Jimmy H to anyone?

It's been widely talked about that he clearly has signs of being on the Asperger Spectrum.

Okay, after awhile, how much self respect are you willing to lose while recruiting these kids?

Hell, maybe Harbaugh just feels like he is 12 years old on the inside, but does he not see that he's making an ass of himself?

Making an ass of himself when climbing towards a top-3 class in the country, so I guess jokes on us.

FTFY. Asperger was not a "spectrum" it was a "syndrome". Further, what people traditionally called Asperger Syndrome is no longer recognized as being distinct from Autism and is now seen as being simply on the Autism Spectrum. "Asperger Syndrome" no longer exists as a classification.

From all the comments, I believe I am in the minority here but I don't like it. My kid would never play for a douche that does this...no matter how great of a coach he might be. Too many good coaches that don't do this crap. I would be embarrassed for ND if BK did this stuff.

Yeah it would be a COMPLETE EMBARRASSMENT if we landed a top-3 class in our coach's 1st full year of recruiting and capped the year with a 30+ point dismantling of an SEC team followed by a pre-season top-3 ranking. Just the absolute worst.

Look. You don't wanna send your kid to be coached by Harbaugh? That's fine. It's your kid, your prerogative. But don't act like ND wouldn't be lucky to have a coach as IMMEDIATELY effective as Harbaugh. I'm not advocating for us to fire Kelly or bring in JH, but I FIRMLY believe that we would mostly be willing to overlook the idiosyncrasies if they came with all the wins and positive program momentum. You're only kidding yourself if you think otherwise.

Wow...take it down a few hundred notches. You need to learn to read what is written. I never said I would be embarrassed by a top-3 class...but that can be done without being an asshole. There are a lot of great coaches, current and past, who never did this kind of crap and landed top tier classes. Not what I want a coach to do. Contrary to your opinion, I am not kidding myself. In regards to the bolded part, will never have the mentality to "win at all costs". Start overlooking things and it is a slippery slope.

Swenson's, Enis' or Richardson's?

I'm sick. I really liked this kid. Hurts to see good weather guys from LA and my local HS in Scottsdale (Byron Murphy) going to crappy weather schools not named ND.

Can't win 'em all but it just proves it can be done.

Michigan AD Jim Hackett just said today that he's working on a long-term extension to keep Harbaugh in Ann Arbor for a very long time and that they'll have news on it soon.

He's already making like $5.7 million a year and he has 6 years left on his deal, so my guess is he's probably going to be one of the highest paid coaches in college in that $7-8 mil a range and his new buyout is going to be massive. Otherwise....why sign any extension?
