He is also handing out coaching positions like crack to people associated with top recruits. IIRC.

Following the Saban model. I don't really care, just land this kid, he's a stud.

If they can close the CB position out with Long and LaVert Hill out of Detroit...wow.

Your class is really starting to shape up nicely. You guys will be in the thick of things again real soon.

thanks.

can't tell you how refreshing it is to actually have a head coach after years of football purgatory after Carr retired and we got stuck with Rodriguez and Hoke.

Hanging on to the coach is going to be a tough deal. I pray to god he sticks around for awhile but he's going to have a lot of success and then head back to the NFL IMO. He'll be a hot commodity every time an NFL job is open. Going to be tough to keep him in Ann Arbor.

I very much hope that Long goes to UW and Gary pulls a Dashawn Hand. Michigan deserves to suck for much longer...I realize with the talent coming in they will be better and "maybe if players stay they could beat Ohio state" (and not really win shit just like Bo)...and maybe all of my buddies who cheer for Ohio state will be happy again that the big ten is better and I can point out what a joke of a rivalry it really is because 90% of the Ohio state and Michigan fans that I know cheer for the other team to win all of their games except against each other (gross).

Or... maybe I'll wake up one day and ND will have scheduled another game with Michigan and I can look forward to beating their asses 37-0 again and stopping this nonsense.

Merry Christmas.

How is Michigans recruiting class number 1 on Scout? I look at their class and compare it to ND's and i would take ours in a heartbeat!!

I would also take our class over their's are the moment but they like us are going to have a hell of a finish. Plus they have Jim Harbaugh and a rock star coaching staff. That's why they are number 2

Okay, after awhile, how much self respect are you willing to lose while recruiting these kids?

Hell, maybe Harbaugh just feels like he is 12 years old on the inside, but does he not see that he's making an ass of himself?

the dude coached in the NFL and used to wear cleats in practice. One player even told a story of how Harbaugh dressed up in pads and a helmet and was playing QB in an NFL practice as a 50 year old coach.

He's not your average cat. To say the least. He doesn't think he's making an ass of himself and he really doesn't give a fuck what other people think. I honestly admire that in a person, not giving a shit what others think. It's his best trait and his worst trait at the same time. It's what makes him such a "trill ass coach" - to quote rapper Wale, but it's also what makes him wear out his welcome and gets people not wanting to be around him. Which is why I think he's a great fit for the college game. In college he has all the control, no owner or GM to kiss ass to and the players are in and out after 3-4 years, so much turnover that they don't have time to really get sick of him.

To who though? Not the recruits in his Top 3 class or their fans as far as I can tell. I saw this posted and shared by 5 of my Michigan friends on FB this morning. They are eating it up.

Yes, he IS making an ass of himself to the recruits in his class. The kids just like it. They find it humorous. And the fans only like because of the kids he's getting.

Look, making an ass of yourself is a good way to get people to like you, but it's not a good way to get people to respect you.

The kids probably enjoy it because the guy is literally willing to bend over backwards for them and because he comes off all friendly, goofy, and relatable, but one of the first things I ever learned when I started coaching is: you are their coach, not their friend, and you never stop being their coach.

Harbaugh is playing a risky game. He just better hope it pays off.

In regards to Long... I hope like he!! it's UW because if not, that's a big loss for the staff vs. UM.

UW has always liked where they were with Long though, at least up until I last heard around Christmas.

Quick question for the board, was it ever publicly mentioned if he did/did not clear admissions at Stanford? Can't seem to remember.

Lol I don't think Jim Harbaugh will have a problem with this.

Harbaugh probably hopes that it distracts people from the fact that he is pushing 3 star kids out the door who have been committed to Michigan for close to a year to make room for higher rated recruits.

I don't think people are distracted by it. I just think they don't care. Sucks but that's the reality of it. Other coaches have done far worse, like Les Miles who had a 3* kid that was early enrolled at LSU and then pulled his scholarship to make room for a 5* on NSD. This was just a few years back. Nobody gave a shit then. Sad, but it's the nature of the beast. Fans and media only care about wins. That's it.

If he wins 10 games a year and beats MSO and OSU half the time, it will pay off

The fans like him because he won 10 games in a rebuilding year and beat MSU. If he was 3-10 they'd be calling for his head even if he won a Nobel Prize and cured cancer in the off season. Respect comes with winning. It cures all things. You should know this being from Indiana. You can make the biggest ass possible out of yourself and still be thought of as maybe the top coach in your sport. Bobby Knight did it for 20 years.

Coaching is about being honest. Be honest about who you are and be honest with the kids. Don't try to be someone you're not as a coach, they'll see right through that. From the outside looking in, I'd say Harbaugh is a flake, not a fake.

Can't wait till he goes back to the NFL.

I think he'll be back in the NFL eventually. He's a way better fit for college with his personality though imo.

It'll take the right situation to bring him back to the NFL. He'd have to have a hands off owner who'd basically let him run the entire show and hand-pick a GM. GM would have to work for Harbaugh, not the owner. Only way he'd go back to the NFL imo is if he got a situation like Belichik or Carroll where he ran the entire show.

I'd add Belichik to that list bc he's smarter than you, he knows it, and he doesn't care what you think at all.

As far as Harbaugh goes, he once told Jed York- the owner of the 49ers and the guy he works for- to get out of the locker-room bc the locker-room is only for real men. Should tell you all you need to know. He don't give an F.
