Doing some Googling, looks like Lucas has said "Jedi Knights aren't celibate - the thing that is forbidden is attachments - and possessive relationships."

Jedi are not to fall in love

Wiz asked about sex, not love. It's been a long time since I read any of the EU stuff, but I recall that they are restricted from having families. Celibacy is not required. I could be wrong.

Edit: ol' George confirms. Makes sense, I guess, in as much as anything else does.

Im hoping she's Kenobi's granddaughter. Ewan McGregors voice was used during that Rey flashback.

Before I posted that I had a sentence about the Kenobi connection! But deleted it. That's exactly what I was thinking.

oooo I like that. Who did Ben sleep with though?

Back during the clone wars Kenobi had a sort of girlfriend in a woman named Satine Kryze. It's possible she hid a pregnancy from him, they split up and he never learns of the child. It might be an interesting connection with the Max Von Sandow character we see at the beginning of Episode 7. If that character Lor San Tekka is somehow related to Kryze or someone she knows then it would make sense that they belonged to a religion that idolized the Jedi because obviously Kryze having knows Kenobi would know that the Jedi were a real thing.

Again all the theories come back to the question of why someone would abandon Rey on this desert planet and not just set her up with a foster family like the Organa's or the Lar's. Maybe the idea was that (rightfully) someday the empire might come and kill this Jedi following cult, so leaving Rey with them might put her in danger. Instead have her do the whole scavenger thing while a descendant of Kryze watches from a distance.

Seems a tad backwards that lust is a light side trait and love dark.

What's the official Jedi ruling on sex?
Jedi are not to fall in love

Just off the top of my head Obi Wan had that pseudo girlfriend i talked about in my last post. Luke had a badass wife named Mara Jade in the EU, they also had a son named Ben Skywalker. Also Anakin fell in love and had children with Padme while he was still a Jedi.

The EU doesn't count anymore tho, only example we have of now is Anakin falling for Padme which lead him to the darkside

Idk some of the Obi Wan clone wars stuff might still be canon. Anyways my point was that there is no reason to think the rules would be any different now versus the EU stuff.

I think the T-65b looks better than the T-70.
Where are alternate fighter designs?
I need some A-Wing action.

Just saw it. Thoughts (SIAP):

1. I really, really liked it

2. The mixture of new and old characters was perfect. Setting the stage for Finn to take the reins from Han, and Kylo Ren from Vader was absolutely perfect. Anybody else think Rey and Kylo Ren are siblings? (Sure it's been posted already, will read in a sec)

3. I will definitely see it again, which is far more than I can say about the last series

My criticisms:

1. I was slightly disappointed in how Kylo Ren was handled. He had me on the edge of my seat every scene he was in, until he took his helmet off, and his backstory was revealed. Wish he was just a faceless/storyless villain for the whole first movie. Regardless, he was incredible, just hoped he wasn't "humanized" until later in the series

2. When Han was killed, it would have been awesome to see a scene where Chewie loses it immediately after, and starts ripping arms off storm troopers and throwing them over the ledge for 5 minutes, or even 5 hours straight!!!!

3. I can handle a strong female lead, and thought Rey was an amazing character, but call me sexist, I cringed when the chrome storm trooper talked, and we found out Captain Phasma was a woman.

4. We knew Luke would make a cameo, and I got so effing excited, when near the end, the new emperor dude said "go get Ren and have him complete his training." I fully expected a cut scene of a dark side Luke saying something to him before the screen going black. Would have been awesome!!!!

Overall, I would say it more than lived up to the hype.

1. There were multiple points in the movie where I felt real emotion. In Episode 1-3 that was never the case. So on emotional investment, this movie was a huge step forward. When the x-wings are coming in from the distance across the water, I got legit hype. They telegraphed the Han Solo death, and I still got legit sad when it happened. And many other instances. The movie really didn't drag much at all like the prequels did.

2. The lack of cheese was so refreshing. I watched the old movies 4,5,2,3,6 before going to see the new one (cutting out the cheesiest of them all) and 2/3 have so much terrible dialogue it actually makes me angry. Who the hell wrote that script? You had an academy fucking award winner as a lead and she still couldn't even make it work!

3. There may have been too much comedic relief, but at least it was GOOD comedic relief. All of the jokes hit. Such a far cry from Jar Jar.

4. It was New Hope 2.0... that criticism is spot on. I'm hopeful VIII isn't Empire 2.0. I'll give them a pass on playing it safe on plot for the "reset"... but yeah, at the moment Poe gives the plans to the droid I literally turned to the person next to me and said "help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope"

5. I'm not sure how I feel about Ren. Is he supposed to be powerful? Because they allude to the fact that he's worried about not measuring up to Vader, etc. ... and then he sort of gets his ass kicked. But he does seem to have some powerful force abilities? Interested to see where this goes. I didn't like that Rey was able to beat him, but then again he WAS already wounded and in a weird emotional state... and maybe he's supposed to sort of suck?

6. Is the "Supreme Leader" just Palpatine reincarnated somehow? I don't understand another way that there could be a Sith lord.

Except that there was no romantic relationship there whatsoever.

You don't know that, they were at least flirty up through Empire. There was some time that passed between Empire and RotJ, and Luke didn't know she was his sister until RotJ. I don't seriously think Rey is Luke and Leia's sister...but that would be a hell of a twist. Might explain Luke's exile, and if she was on the Falcon when it was stolen it would explain how she came to Jacku and came to work for that alien guy that now has the Falcon.

Kinky.
The Mouse Emperor won't stand for that.

Probably not, but the Mouse Emperor really only cares about making money.

2. The mixture of new and old characters was perfect. Setting the stage for Finn to take the reins from Han, and Kylo Ren from Vader was absolutely perfect. Anybody else think Rey and Kylo Ren are siblings? (Sure it's been posted already, will read in a sec)

Probably not...unless Rey is Luke and Leia's daughter  Rey almost certainly seems to be Luke's daughter though, and Ren is Han/Leia's son, so they're cousins at least.

Chewie sort of went off when Han died, but yeah...would have been cool to see him just go ape shit for a few minutes and they have to drag him away from decimating troopers. Phamsa definitely seemed a bit weak, something about the voice didn't feel very tough (Not just because it was female). Her voice almost seemed soft and flowly, I dunno. As far as Luke, I had another theory that maybe he's really Snoke and the projected image shown to Kylo Ren is just a facade. That would be a more likely twist for Episode VIII than having Rey's parents be Luke and Leia.

Oh shit, #4 would've been the hypest plot twist ever.

Her character was pointless and really underutilized. She should have played a more important role. Hopefully going forward she does. Unless she perished.

Interesting... Obi Wan did have a strong personal relationships with the Mandalorian leader in the Clone Wars Tv series.... Nothing else that I can recall. I have not made it through Rebels yet.

I still think Rey is either Luke or Leia's daughter. The last scene where Leia and Rey part ways was kind of clunky which makes me think there is something more there that was not said. And Luke's reaction at the end was strong but I could not tell if it was to his lightsaber, Rey, or both.

It seems to me to that Kylo Ren is not a polished Force User. He obviously has some serious capabilities but they are not honed. Gattaca mentioned some things earlier but you need only look at his lightsaber to see that it is of shotty construction. He was also stumped by Rey trying to read her mind. So IMO he seems to have left training from Luke and been scooped up by the FO where his talents were put to use but completely undeveloped and unfinished. He seems to be on relatively equal footing as the commander (IDK his name) in the eyes if the Leader so I don't think the Leader is a Sith nor do I think Ren is an apprentice.

It seems to me he discovered a bit of Vaders past, misunderstood the redemption in it but revered the wrong parts of the story (Why?). I noticed he had a bowl/alter of ashes in one scene so he most likely went to Endor, found the mask and took the ashes. Whatever he has been told he obviously really wants to be a dark side force user. His dilemma was killing the light side on purpose, not falling into the dark by accident.

The more I think about it the more things I find that are new and done well IMO.

I was in IMAX 3D and I thought it was pretty good but definitely wouldn't pay the premium a second time. Going to regular tonight and will report back.

Yes I agree. I'm actually excited to see it in 2D tomorrow, I feel like I will he able to notice smaller details.
