I've seen a Mini-Ditka before but that's the first Mini-Butkus for me.

I'm sitting here in a.... My Dick is nastier than yours! Butkus t-shirt. It's a sign I tell you. All the CB's!

In all seriousness, that is Mini-Butkus. That's his kid, Matt Butkus former SC Trojan.

If Kelly ends up in LA... I will burn all my swag and rename my dog. No italics

is there a ceremony where the high school and college butkus winners get announced at the same event?

would be a great opportunity for jaylon to do a little plugging for the good guys =)

They are announced separately.

Nice overlap there-- Te'o won the collegiate Butkus the same year that Jaylon won the high school version (2012). And Jaylon won the collegiate Butkus the same year that Caleb won the high school version.

I saw the graphic and instantly wondered what it would have been like to have Manti and Jaylon playing together? Wow!

Who cares, Teo never had the intangibles of Joe Schmidt, probably would never have seen the field.

In all seriousness though we need to stop the sh*tting on Joe Schmidt parade.

San Diego (LA) will have a pretty high draft pick. Doubt we find out though.

Almost as good as Stonebreaker and Bolcar in '88!

But not with as such great sounding names as those two.

Stonebreaker is one of my all time favorites, but I'd have to give a slight edge to Manti and Jaylon as a duo.

Joe Schmidt sucks.

Heh.

I was telling some buddies to watch Joe end up making a great play that seals the Fiesta Bowl for ND. He's long over due for a game changing play. No better time than against osu.

Joe Schmidt sucks.

Joe Schmidt was a 3-star recruit who chose to go to Notre Dame as a walk-on. He earned a scholarship and a starting role on the football team. He wasn't an all-American, but few are. He will have a Notre Dame degree when he leaves, and I suspect he will be very successful in life. If Joe Schmidt sucks, what does that say about all of us who have achieved far less? The vast majority of Joe's critics can only dream of matching Joe's accomplishments. Joe made the 40-year decision and has the drive and perseverance to be very successful in whatever field he chooses to pursue after graduation. He is the anti-thesis of a Cardale Jones. I, for one, admire what Joe has been able to accomplish.

Now let's get back to discussing Caleb Kelly and how much we would love to have him attend Notre Dame.

Joe Schmidt sucks.

He's probably the best leader and the most looked up to on team. He earned it the right way. Doesn't complain or point the finger.

And you are going to blast him? Give me a break

Leader? I'm not here to bash Joe, but "leader" is debatable. I honestly wonder how much any of the starters really look up to him.

I'm not so sure, it seems pretty obvious that Jaylon Smith does at the very least--and that's a big deal.

In the end, though, I think the real frustration is with BVG.

I love Steve Elmer, but it would be frustrating if he had started at RG all season because of his experience, while Mike McGlinchey rode the pine. MM has some bad moments early, he needed to get his own experience, and its paid off big. Or like playing Corey Robinson over Hunter Jr. all year.

No doubt Joe is more competent in certain respects than the guys behind him (the coaches see practices, no football, and get paid millions, etc., etc.). But its pretty easy to think that between all the other LBs on the bench, Joe has not shown enough to keep everyone else off the field for almost every play. He has a role, but getting all crucial snaps at MLB is extreme, and continually blitzing your least athletic player is silly.

You could argue that the offense made the same mistake riding Procise and not trusting Adams until Procise was hurt or panting for breath.

He says "This is dope tho" when he tweets this. Could be saying I'm not going to ND but this is dope though.

Again, we can't have reasonable threads without talk of looking too far into a kids words.

LOL. IMO, the "tho" is just there so that it sounds like its supposed to. It's high school. You have to sound exactly like all your friends at all times.
