OK. Maybe this is what I am missing. I always saw the Avengers, Dr. Strange, the fantastic Four, etc., as important, but Spider Man and the X-men as being the big properties. Maybe I'm just wrong.

You're not wrong. Spider-Man will always be viewed Marvels main character. That's why it was so important to get him into the Marvel cinematic universe. X-men didn't really hit their stride until the late 80's/ early 90's with the writing of Clermont and the cartoon series.

Yeah I definitely hate that they can't use the X-men. That being said I also understand the rights issues and hate they had to sell those off. Hopefully Marvel/Disney bite the bullet and buy them off Fox and whoever else and bring it all together. THAT being said... all the stuff they are doing with Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Agent's of Shield, Agent Carter etc... keep me busy and for the most part are well done.

I think AOS sputters at times, and the new season is a little too risque for me, but I thought DD was suprisingly very good. Agent Carter is also enjoyable.

OK, that makes sense.

Yep AOS is my least favorite right now. Not quite sure what it is and don't want to weigh in on it without a better formed opinion.

I absolutely loved DD and Jessica Jones looks to be really good so far (I am only two episodes in so far).

I cant wait for Spiderman to get in with the MCU.

Agent Carter may be an enjoyable diversion, but it is not good. AOS is basically too much of a soap opera now, and the only time it got a bump from the MCU was after the Winter Soldier revealed that HYDRA had infiltrated SHIELD. Since then, it has been sputtering and now they are back to having HYDRA basically be involved in the US government like they were with the World Security Council. Just the SOS recycled.

And as good as DD and JJ may be, they are not TV, they are strictly made for Net. I hate that people think that they are TV shows, when they clearly are NOT.

Movie-wise, Marvel is doing well. TV-wise, not at all.

Gotta agree about AOS. I really want to like it but it's just kinda dumb. Mae (or May) is f'ing awful. I've been annoyed with her from the first episode. Please stop trying to convince everyone that your most bad ass agent is a small Asian woman.

The show is just kinda cheesy and goofy. It's too bubblegum and not enough grit. Even when it's trying to be more intense I can never take it seriously and never feel like any character is in real danger. At least any regular character. I think the show would really benefit killing off a main character, namely agent Mae.

So they basically gave us the plot. Plus Jesse Eisenberg is now pushing Topher Grace and Arnold as worst adaptation of a villain.

So Batman and Superman hate each other, taking immature pot-shots at each other like 3rd graders, not realizing that they're both the Pot calling the Kettle black, and then Lex Luthor gets them together to up the tension, causing a stand-off and eventual battle between Batman and Superman, and then Luthor tries to revive General Zod for his own evil purposes, Zod turns into an evil stone monster that breathes electric fire, and Superman and Batman have to forget their differences in order to team up and save the world, realizing that they are both heroes AND both vigilantes, but for the right reasons.

And then Wonder Woman. The Dawn of Justice.

Ironically, Electric Fire was IrishLion's first garage band name. I have a cassette I got of them from an old garage sale.

The movie is called "Dawn of Justice." Of course they team up. But this trailer very clearly outlined the entire plot of the film lol.

Keep that. It's worth tens of pennies.

Dont jump off the B v. S. bandwagon yet. And I like Lex Luthor. He is the Mark Zuckerberg version that they said he would be. They did not need to show doomsday but Im not upset like everyone else.

Yeah because what the world really needs is another movie where Captain America becomes a vigilante. To your point though, based on the trailers I couldn't tell you how civil war ends. I just know I want to see it. Based on the Batman trailer I can write the freaking scrip.

Seriously, the more I read/learn, that was a terrible trailer. They aren't saving anything. And even if they are saving up one or two more big surprises, they still could have done a better job of building up Doomsday and Wonder Woman's "reveal," rather than just kind of tacking them on to the trailer.

Also, I know in the comics that Doomsday originated on Krypton. I'm thinking that for movie purposes, the giant, imposing machine-like structure in the trailer is a Luthor creation, and that they kind of Frankenstein Zod's dead body, and something goes wrong, turning Zod himself into Doomsday.

I could be completely wrong and they could just be using Zod's body as a blueprint for creating Doomsday or perhaps giving the monster Zod's life-force or something like that. But it would make more sense for the more broad, movie-only audience if they had a way to connect Krypton and Doomsday by using a character from the Superman film.

I'm still going to watch it in the theatres even though I feel like I saw the whole movie. I wish I had enough will power to resist watching trailers. Although this could wind up like Ultron and have a lot of stuff in the trailers not make it into the movie. Also, Civil War will be better than this.

The Marvel movies are just better movies (as far as we can tell, with the only point of comparison being Man of Steel). Superman is so overpowered that starting with him and having him in the roster from the beginning is going to make for ridiculous escalation of conflict. It's why Thor spends much of his solo films in Asgard or fighting villains from other realms. Iron Man can fight evil engineers and Cap can fight corrupt government agencies without Thor showing up to end the battle in five seconds.

So do they just keep jumping to different points in their "timeline" so they can find ways to involve different actors/characters (like Sophie Turner as Jean Gray)? Or did I miss something from the newest movie that explains why they're still in the 70's/80's?

Also, Apocalypse doesn't look as terrible as that Entertainment Weekly shoot made it seem, though I still think he could have been done better.

It's like this character was created with him in mind. He's been bad in several movies but he's perfect as Deadpool.

Anyone else starting to get a little tired of the Super Hero movies? I will still go watch some of them but the excitement factor for them is not what it used to be.

I just came in to ask basically the same thing, but in the context of Star Wars. I feel like Disney may have torpedo'ed itself. The MCU feels like small potatoes in the wake of The Force Awakens.

Not really. Especially Marvel. They are having a lot of fun making the movies and it shows. Most of them have their own direction and genres that make the movies individual while still occurring in the same universe. For example...
Winter soldier was a political thriller,
GOTG was basically a com romp in the 1980s
Ant man was a heist movie

That is what makes them great for me. DC has not attempted this as all of their movies are dark and brooding, which is fine for some storylines but for some characters, there needs to be a variety of feels, themes, temperatures, and such. DC takes itself way to seriously... and that likewise shows.

Further Marvel is in a transition between Phase II and Phase III so the majority of the main characters up to date are being phased out and New characters are being phased in. It should stay fresh for a while to come. Plus there are several characters like the Black Panther and Dr Strange that have great potential.

Finally finished Jessica Jones on Netflix. Good show. David Tennent was excellent bad guy. Unexpected Easter Egg near the end.

Stopped watching for the holidays but picked back up earlier this week.

On to Amazon Prime and Man in the High Castle...then in March on to Daredevil season two now with The Punisher and some Elektra.
