this is the sorta kid who will pick a final 4 and then get a an offer from USC or Oregon which will be a "game changer" and open his recruitment up again. Can we just lock his thread already and move on?? :)

The UNC fake class scandal: Athlete got an A- for a one-paragraph paper.

I think anyone we are recruiting that is thinking about UNC should be shown this. A- work here......

Now is as good of a time as any.

Don't you all see how these academic standards may appeal to a whole (large) group of athletes, who are more concerned with extending their football careers that earning a degree?

It should be a positive for the guys we recruit. That paper had non-attributed quotes, poor grammar.... and it got an A-. If my kid turned that in I would have told him to try again. Now this why those kids who want to go play football only should have the opportunity to just go play elsewhere and not be forced to go to college. That paper would have received an F in eight grade social studies.

To call that a paper is laughable - it barely functions as a coherent thought to form a paragraph. How can a professor ever feel like anything but a slimeball for allowing that to go on? I had to write longer and better papers in the 5th grade.

The bolded is what everyone assumed.

The rumors are not unsubstantiated free board musings from randos... ISD, II, and 247 all reported in different ways that there was work to be done. That's where all that came from, Mike Frank, TJ, etc. reporting that info to paying subscribers to their boards.

Lax is right here. I've seen it reported by II, BGI, and TJ at II. Apparently this visit was going to be about explaining to him what he needs to do academically if he wanted to come to ND. Basically get all the cards on the table and let him make a decision.

I saw a quote (can't remember where, but you guys probably know) of Chris's coming out of his visit, and basically he cooled on ND because 'he wasn't sure he could handle the academics side, but meeting with the coaches now he knows it wouldn't be a problem'. FWIW.

We did seem to pick up some momentum here with the visit. Which is common for coming off a visit and it being fresh in the kids head. He said that the visit left an unbelievable impression on him. With that said he seems like a kid that loves every visit so it wouldn't surprise me if he will say that about Michigan and OSU.

This from TJ when asked if we'd take his commitment. Funny part of this post is this is something that we discussed last cycle regarding McKenzie and how every offer and commitment is "conditional". Kudos to Lax who was on that one.

Yes, they would -- conditionally, which is understood. Of course, all early commitments are "conditional" on satisfactory progress, achievement and citizenship to NSD. But he can get done what's necessary if it matters. Hopefully, it will, whether he chooses ND or not.

Either way, recruiting continues and you always ensure a pipeline of prospects and interest, knowing that things happen sometimes.

Your being far too nice as that wouldn't have gotten anything less than fail even for a 2nd or 3rd grader.

Aren't there still academic issues for him to be able to get into ND? Is it feasible for them to be easily overcome? If not, I dont see how anyone would be confident about him ending up at ND, as we've all seen this movie before.
