Iowa reminds me of the first Michigan St team that was good under Dantonio. Didn't blow you away but they don't beat themselves and play solid D. Whiskey showed a graph on points of TO's and they were +58 along with MSU. ND a -31. They played well enough to matter this Saturday, the Irish didn't and have only themselves to blame for not being #1 right now.

And that MSU team lost to Bama 49-7. Think you are spot on with the comparison.

Crazy to think in an 8 team playoff we'd be sitting on pins and needles this weekend praying for Clemson to beat UNC and/or USC to beat Stanford.

Yup. Anyone who thinks an 8 team playoff creates less drama is crazy. Would prefer 6, but I'd take 8 over 4.

So are we gonna end up stuck playing Ohio State? I think we can definitely beat them but seeing how they played last year in the playoffs they have the potential to be really good. Id feel much better about having Iowa

I don't think we'd win. Much rather play Iowa or FSU. It would get huge ratings though.

Crazy to think we dropped 2 for barely beating BC. And 2 for barely losing to Stanford.

Makes you wonder where we would be if someone had found Cajuste on that last drive and we won the game. If you move down 2 for a loss, where do you go if you win?

This is great. ND definitely needs to win an elite bowl and get that monkey off their back. I hope we play OSU in the Fiesta. I will reserve judgement on the defense given BVG has a months game plan anyone. What he was able to pull off against Texas and the option teams was impressive.

I just can't ever comprehend the fans who don't see the value in playing a great Irish team.

Btw. Has anyone watched Iowa play this year and said 'WOW' thats a really good team? Big Ten school getting credit, just like an SEC Florida at 18 playing in a championship flop..
I think Iowa is better than the credit they're getting here.

Ugh I have no team that I feel like pulling for who has a realistic shot to make the playoffs. I don't care for Clemson, I hate Alabama, don't like MSU, and I don't think Iowa is a good team and I've developed an intense dislike for that team. That leaves OU which I don't really hate, but I don't really care for either.

Where do you think this board would be if OU was getting boat raced by 30 points as the ND-Stanford game ended the way it did? That's makes me wonder......

ND TO THE PLAYOFFS!!!

I don't even want to mentally entertain the idea, but I do actually think there is a series of events that could lead to us finishing #4.

We are currently #8.

We would seemingly jump the MSU/Iowa loser if the game isn't very close. Let's just say MSU wins by 14+. That puts us at #7.

USC beats Stanford. This puts us at #6.

Florida beats Bama. Obviously, this is the far-fetched event in this scenario.

Temple beats Houston to become the highest ranked AAC team.

Clemson, Oklahoma, Michigan State are all locks here as the top-3 schools.

The final spot would come down to 11-1 OSU, 10-2 ND, 11-2 Bama, 11-2 Florida, 12-1 Iowa.

It would be impossible for the committee to argue Bama>Florida, and also near impossible to justify jumping Florida from #18 to #4.

In this scenario, we would have four top-25 wins. OSU would have one. Bama would have two. Florida would have three. Iowa would have one.

USC, Temple, Navy, and ???

e. I also think it's better for your scenario if Iowa trounces Sparty.

Whoops I'm an idiot I was giving us credit for the win over Stanford....

Still think the same argument applies though.

Yeah but I just can't stand Dabo for some reason. He has a punchable face or something...I just don't like the guy. I don't really care for Clemson or their fanbase either.

Love the idea, but we're 2 spots behind OSU right now and neither of us play anymore. I highly highly doubt a Temple win alone would vault us over them.

The board would still be down and a full 17% of the regular posters would have died from an aneurysm.

eh, Clemson or Iowa are the teams I find least objectionable right now. We don't really compete with them for recruits, they're not a team we have a long running rivalry with, and Oklahoma is suck.

I have to think that if MSU Jail sexes Iowa that OSU gets the Rosebowl nod.

And double up on Big10 teams? I doubt it.

Herbstreet is a hack - listening to him on Mike and Mike this AM was nauseating. F-ing homer slams UNC for playing two D-2 schools but thinks OSU deserves the nod? They played NOBODY until the second to last week of the year? But they "look good" so they should get in? Why even play games! F-ing knob.

I saw something where OSU was a grand total of 1-1 against ranked teams. Literally played two games all year against "good" competition... and lost one.

ND is going to finish the year playing 5 ranked teams. FIVE! That's more than double what OSU played, and substantially more than anyone else in the top 10.

With that resume, which sounds pretty darn good, are we in if we beat Stanford?

4 ranked wins? It would've been very close. I still think Oklahoma gets the nod, they'd have 4 ranked wins as well.

The debate with the Big Ten would've gotten interesting though.

I disagree wholeheartedly. OSU's weak schedule is because the Big 10 sucked this year. That's not their fault. UNC CHOSE to play two FCS schools. FCS schools should never, ever, ever, ever be on a Power Five program's schedule, let alone two in the same year. Ohio State did not play a hard schedule, absolutely correct. But Hawaii, Norther Illinois, and Western Michigan are stratospheres above North Carolina A&T and Delaware. North Carolina A&T? Are you fucking kidding me?
