Been high on this kid since the beginning. Just had a feeling he was going to push himself to show he won't be slowed down by his injury. He runs so smooth. He makes his cut and hits the hole. Very natural runner. Glad he can pass block too!

what happened to his knee? (why that brace?)

He injured it his junior year, which led to a lot of teams backing off him. He came back and had a very good senior year on a pretty bad team. He was their playmaker. If I recall correctly, he had a sprain and missed a game, and they barely moved the ball in his absence.

Comparing his stats to Folston's freshman stats, Adams has 83 more rushing yards and one more touchdown with 17 less carries. All with 2 more games to go. I think we're watching a star in the making

That stiff arm was absolutely awesome.

My hope in this kid was correctly placed. Imagine him next year with and extra 15-20 pounds?

From August.

Uh-hum, Fbolt, where exactly did you place your, 'hope?'

Tee-hee, tee, hee!

Seriously, I agree. May have been one of the biggest takeaways from the game, if not the season so far.

When you take a look at Irish backfields, you have to go back to Brooks and Denton to find anything near the breakaway threat this backfield has, (with Adams for sure, but Prosise, and even Kizer when you think about it!)

What since Charlie Weis was named coach, there have been two or three runs of more than fifty yards?

And this year two (different) backs broke the stadium all time record, with the latest being the longest ND running play TD from scrimmage ever?

It would be different if either of the running backs, or even the quarterback (79 yards the next longest run from scrimmage in the post Weis era, and the longest quarterback running TD in ND history), weren't 'skrong.' I mean everyone expects a mighty mite to hit the long homerun ball. But these kids are 6'1", 6'2", and 6'5", two over 230 pounds, and the 'lightweight' with the ability to probably carry more weight than either of the other two after a couple of years of development.

The best thing to say about Josh Adams is that he has more maturity, and a more workman like attitude that you would ever expect to see on a Freshman. That is a common theme with these kids, Kizer and Prosise, too!

What a group, and what a freshman recruiting coupe! Josh has it all, and I hope the biggest problem he has from here on out is deciding if he will return for his senior season with the Irish, or not!

My hope is that his biggest problem is what to place on his mantle, the Heisman or his repro of ND's National Championship trophy.

You just scared the piss out of me

Me too.

Reminded me of this from Mitch Hedberg:

mitch-700.jpg

I got a “Do-Not-Disturb” sign on my hotel door. It says “Do Not Disturb”; it’s time we go with “Don’t Disturb”. It’s been “Do Not” for too long. We need to embrace the contraction. “Don’t disturb”; “Do Not” psyches you out. “Do”: “Alright, I get to disturb this guy”. “Not”: “Shit! I need to read faster!”

Just watched a 2 minute clip on ESPN.com of the supposed "top" plays of the weekend and Josh's run was not in it LOL.

I mean it's just an "all-time longest rush in Notre Dame history."

Not like ND is symbolic or anything, to college football.

Johnny-come-lately if you will.

No credit for breaking a record against Wake Forest I guess.
I don't know about top plays, but I've seen it a few times on ESPN and it's always mentioned as a true freshman with the longest scoring play in ND history. Some announcers say it with excitement, some throw in the WF angle.

It not being a top play is 100% a function of it being on NBC.

The idea that it is devalued because it was against Wake is hilarious. You don't think Tony Rice, Jerome Bettis, or any of our other superstars have played a bad team in the last 85 years? Where do they get these guys!

I think this is the most appropriate place to give props to Josh. The running game is predicated on blocking and he's gotten great blocking that's for sure. But the kid finished the year with 757 yards on 7.3 per attempt. To put that into perspective, Jonas Gray's 6.9 per attempt in 2011 is the closest anyone has come to that in the Kelly era.

Just as important, in my opinion, is Adams has been outstanding in pass protection as a true freshman. You can't even get some seniors to do that. If you watch the Showtime series regularly, you'll see that the kid is a hard worker and down to earth. A lot of people overlooked him when we signed Dexter but give this kid props. He's everything we hoped Greg Bryant would be and more as a true freshman.

If josh has 757, then he broke the freshman rushing record by 1 yard held by Jerome heavens

Say what you want but the young can ball. Hits the hole hard and gets N/S quick. Him and Folston next year is a nice one two punch.

Yes. Adams has been a monster for us. Amazing year for the young man. Broke a few long standing records and put his name squarely in the pantheon for some all time great RBs at ND. I for one am looking forward to his career at ND.

I know this might sound weird and I have no source but think if we had not lost Folston would he have seen the field at all this year?

ETA: What was the 148 yards in one game reference from earlier this year? I am drawing a blank... I.think he had 147 in one game and got.the game ball for it but he needed 148 to break a freshman record for yard in one game????

I think he had over 148 rushing last night and also had a catch or two.

ETA. He did. He had 168 yards rushing. 2 catches for 28 yards.

Wonder what his role will be next season? Obviously it's real early to speculate considering offseason attrition has yet to happen, but is he automatically pegged as the 3rd RB with Folston coming back next season?

He's going to get bigger, faster, better. Is there room for consistent carries for all 3 guys? Also, Tony Jones is coming in and his physical style of running with his build, would be hard not to give him carries so long as he picks up offence. Unless the want to redshirt him..

Honestly, it's a great problem to have knowing there are so many work horses in the stables.

I cant see not having this kid starting next year. If you want Prosise, run a split backfield. I dont know where that puts Folston next year.

Embarrassment of riches in a few places on offense next season. If Fuller really does come back this should be the most loaded offense we've had in my lifetime.
