Would guess it will limit their use of I-formation schemes (power & ISO), and we'll see more one back (zone, stretch).

They'll just slap a 305 backup lineman back there and chug right along.

Bigger issue is KVR, CJ et al. We need to have zero redzone TOs if we want to win. We do that and it could a convincing win, but only if we can get off of the field.

If I were Stanford coaches, I'd be like damn.

I think this motivates the Irish, big time.

Better than bulletin board material.

Therein lies a potential problem: If this team needs any more motivation to win against Stanford and finish 11-1 and in at least the top 5, then the battle was lost before it was even fought.

If we don't come out with our hair on fire and play our best game we don't deserve it. If we beat Stanford by more than okla beats okla st we are in

I don't think it's that easy, but might as well try. BEAT STANFORD BY 20!!!!

I think they're already motivated, but this could up the level of motivation a little.

I would imagine they will put another FB in there and stick with what they do best. If that goes no where, then I can see them going to a one back formation.

Any chance we pull a 2012 Oklahoma game and totally dominate Stanford and look good doing it?

biggest double edge sword in my mind for game...man because if hogan gets the pass off on a dump to mccaff there isn't a linebacker catching him like smith would.....but as u pointed out, hogan is prone to being rattled....hope BVG makes his money on this one

Thanks for the great info, and clarification of the issue!

Tidbits for Saturday's game FWIW:

Stanford vs. ND ... the home team has won each of the last four meetings, all of which have come with both teams ranked in the AP top 25. Current AP Poll has ND 4th and Stanford 13th.

Kelly is 2-3 vs. Stanford
Shaw is 2-2 vs. ND

Notre Dame currently holds all five of its traveling trophies. The Legends Trophy is on the line this week.

Does anything bad ever happen when we launch it to Fuller? It's either a drop, a TD, or a pass interference. I don't think we've had any interceptions.

Thanks for the jinx

No shit what a douche move Koon.

Jinx averted! You weren't watching this weekend? His over-the-middle arm punt was more than just an ill advised throw. It was so off target that one could say, it was for any receiver on the field, just as likely as any other. So there is one to Will Fuller for you, Moe, Larry, and Curley!

Why I ought 'a . . .

I usually try to do a solid write up for our upcoming game and what to expect from our opponent, but all I have to say is all arguments for us being in the playoff are moot if we can't chop us down some trees.

Go Irish!

Couple days away, who's going and wants to link up? Also where can I find an itinerary of events ND does when they travel?? Going with my buddy but if stuff falls through I'll be taking my 8 year old son that is really coming into his own enjoying ND. If it's not this game, I'm taking him to U$C next year

If you need bulletin board material for this game then you shouldn't be playing in it.

The boys are either going to show that they are worthy or they are not. This is their chance to "complete the mission" they keep talking about. Come out and play like that has actually sunk in and it isn't just a cheap rah rah slogan and they will win. Play like they played last week and they will not. The rubber meets the road Saturday night, and we are going to find out a lot about this team when the whistle blows.

True. I am glad that they are not favored in the game.

Good point! I was actually feeling a little more comfortable being the underdog, again!

Now the Irish can play to ruin someone else's day!

This is where the metal meets the meat. Beat Stanford, and it will all be good. No turnovers, good special teams, get off the field on 3rd down. Not a better time than Saturday as underdog.

"Woodman, spare that tree!"

Nah. The grove needs a bit of thinning.

Let's hope a few of these:

were packed for the trip ...
