My problem with him is he was boom or bust. His consistent failure to turn and look for the ball was infuriating. But I will admit his attitjde rubs me the wrong way, that combined with not living up to admittedly unrealistic expectations has really soured me on KVR. I hope he's not seriously hurt and wish him thr best whether it be playing football or other edevearors but Im not a dan of him as a player and think hea def one of our weakest links on defense.

Do you remember Gary Gray?? I think that dude had a broken neck and was physically unable to find the ball. KV is a decent corner. Still looks like he is trying to get readjusted to game speed after being suspended last year.

For those discussing his eligibility, I think he has a year left. With him playing his freshman and sophomore seasons, he essentially used his redshirt to be suspended (by the school). If this was an NCAA suspension, last year would have counted as a year played. So it will be his and ND's choice as to whether he comes back next year. With the way he has played, I highly doubt he will be high on the draft boards. With the way he played his freshman and sophomore years, his potential is high.

Someone said it was announced as a stress fracture? If so, it could be no big deal really. I had a stress fracture in my foot as a kid; its painful, but you can manage pain.

Stress Fractures of the Foot and Ankle-OrthoInfo - AAOS

Kelly post game said stress fracture. Biggest two things I think are as u said, pain tolerance, and #2 severity/risk of further injury.

Don't see him playing vs Stanford

Saw on twitter that Sampson said he was done for the year, but based on 6-8 week calculation he would have a decent shot at playing in possible championship game right? (Jan 11th)

Update: BK said during Sunday press conference that KR would have outside chance at being back for national title game. Per Sampson. He is a phenomenal athlete so I bet if we get there he will be suited up.

Range of weeks translated to range of dates: December 26th to January 9th

I don't know if that "6-8 weeks" means "rehabed" or "game ready" as a starter.

I'd plan for him being out to the Spring ... Grad School says he admitable.

Wow, 6-8 weeks and surgery! That is very unfortunate for KVR. Much of his draft stock is going to be predicated on showing his athleticism to prospective teams. This injury will hamper his ability to get back to full health in time to do so. I wonder if he will consider returning for his last year of eligibility now, as I believe he was not planning on coming back for 2016.

Next man in ad nauseum.

Edit: Just saw BK's comment on possibly being back on the field by early January. That would be incredible. Godspeed in your recovery Keivarei!

This blows. Glad the team was able to rest the starters in the 4th quarter.

If ND beats Stanford and gets into the playoffs...

ND Football: Beating you with backups since Week 1

I've been cracking up with those fans complaining that "the backups" haven't been getting PT.

ND's got about a dozen scrubs starting. In some cases the backups are 3rd or 4th team caliber, for example, Dexter Williams was 5th string RB in July.

Between the season ending injuries, the banged up and limping, and the redshirted freshman, ND can't fill the NCAA Travel Squad Maximum of 60.

ND might have to suit up the Leprechaun for Stanford.

Even if he can make it back, I doubt he will have been able to run enough on that leg to be in any kind of physical shape.

6-8 weeks come da fuq on. Wtf happened anyways, I know the play. I don't recall any leg injury, or replay showing. Did fuckin Joe s take out another player with a bad tackle attempt or what. I sure hope Todd L taught butler how to play football

Did anyone get the feeling that his IG post was basically saying he won't be coming back next year?

Edit: Actually, now reading it again he does say #TheReturnPT2...so maybe he is saying he is coming back?

I didn't know Russell was injured until just now. It is a huge loss for us. As much as people want to complain about his play, he was still a very good corner for us. We don't exactly have a stable of CBs waiting to lockdown our opponents.

This is a big loss for us. I hope Kelly and BVG put together a masterful plan to keep this train on the tracks.

This is one of the great myths of the 2015 season.

Agreed. One of two great myths.

Must have been from your phone. I don't know if I would call him the weakest link (based upon his skill, play on the field this season, or resilience.) But there is just something about his play this season, maybe exemplified by the touchdown at the end of the Pitt game that just frustrates me. And turns me to ambivalence, about his return.

If Coleman and Crawford are as good as expected, that is fine for me next year. I am not sure he is capable of the kind of senior leadership the team needs.

This team has a remarkable ability to play to their opponent's level. I still have faith they win next week, and make the playoffs.

I thought about this backwards and forwards; and damn! It really is profound. Maybe even a theme of the season.

Anyone else wonder if all these ankles could be from the Under Armor shoes? Supposedly most of our oline has high ankle sprains. Do these kids where ankle braces and tape up before games? When I coached all of out olinemen had to wear ankle braces for the games.

Huh? I hadn't heard that about our o-line. But if that really is the case, forcing the (type of) running game against the front sevens we have faced over the last three weeks is borderline criminal.

KVR I really didn't see anything that looked bad. Maybe I missed it.

CJ was the dreaded pull down from behind tackle, I hate those tackles so many injuries on those plays. It looked bad as soon as it happened. Love his fight and power but sometimes you need to just go down.

KVR apparently didn't.

I feel people have been gunning for CJ since he established himself this year. Pound for pound I cannot remember seeing another player pulled down more dangerously, or brutally, without regard for the rules.

While I have been plenty critical of him this year I do really like his post about guys being lost im battle but the mission continuing and being a good teammate from the sidelines.

Sucks because this is a game where KVR would excel. He's a physical tackler for a corner, and we need as much of that out there as possible. Shouldn't hurt losing him in passing, but run help will be lacking.

Think with this injury he will come back for a 5th year in an attempt to show the NFL he is fully recovered from the injury? Or will he hope he is fully recovered and ball at the combine?

Wait. Didn't he play as a true frosh? How would he come back for another year? His suspension surely isn't grounds to use as a "redshirt" season.

He could benefit from another year. Unless he has a killer combine he is probably late 2nd round early 3rd.

That's a stretch.

He'll be an undrafted free agent I think.

Hopefully a team will sign him to a practice squad.

At which point I think he'll make a roster and eventually work his way onto the field.

He has the potential.

But I hate to say it: I worry about his personal stature according to himself right now.

He thinks he's one of the best. It hasn't been determined by anyone else but himself of that now. I worry a bad draft will make him doubt himself.

Not mentioning the millions he'll lose not getting drafted to his true potential.
