F**k playing Alabama again. I still have PTSD from playing them in the NCG. I yapped for a long time about wanting 'Bama that year but I found out real quick that mama didn't say "be careful what you wish for" for nothing. I do think that we could be Alabama as this 'Bama team <<2012 Alabama team and this ND team >>2012 ND but still. I don't want any part of a Nick Saban coached team in the playoffs.

At this point I would be thrilled just to see the Irish make the playoff. I don't care who they have to play once they get there if that prayer is answered.

I want us to be #4 and play #1 Clemson in the first round. We can take them. Idk about Bama, OSU, LSU, and Baylor

I wouldn't mind playing 'Bama in the championship. I think we could give them a game. But like Thump said, the idea of playing a Nick Saban-coached team in the semis, with a month to prepare, scares me shitless.
But who are we kidding? I'll take any spot in the playoffs.

Derrick Henry/Ezekiel Elliot meet Joe Schmidt. No thanks. Give me Baylor or Clemson.

Yup, If we play them, I pray it's in the finals. Give me the 4 spot, and rematch with Clemson if possible. I personally do not want to go through weeks of Bama vs ND talk in the office for the first round either... Let Bama play OSU in the first round. Saban would be so fixated on getting payback from Urban Liar, he'd forget all about the Irish.....

It's great to be in the mix, but obviously it is very early in the process. Gotta keep winning games, and if we get in it will be great.
Rematch scenario vs Clemson seems the best way to go.

Absolutely. If we were to face 'Bama in a playoff I would much rather have it be in the 2nd round and face someone like Clemson again in the first. Giving weeks for Saban and company to prepare is bad news, not that they can't win with one week. I'd rather have LSU though.

It starts with both our teams winning this weekend. And the next. And the next. Whole lot of football between now and a potential match up. But I will admit... a combo of Urban and then the Irish would be pretty cool.

I think It would be very cool to see a scenario where we rematch (from last years game) Florida state. Throw in the Golson factor and that's a neat little match up. Ohio State was #16 at this time last year, and if Fla St. was to knock off Clemson and Florida they would have a legitimate shot to make the field of 4. Of course they would need some help, but so do we.

Id take Baylor in a heartbeat now without Russell. I can't believe that isn't a bigger storyline right now.

most people just presume Briles' QB's are just system guys and pretty much interchangable. Bryce Petty actually made their offense better than RG3 and he was a Heisman winner. Be interesting to see how Stidham goes. I woundn't fancy our DB's vs their WR core right now. Give me Clemson first

I don't think it's as plug and play as folks think. Yes their WRs create separation and mismatch running around everywhere, but it takes a level of talent to progress through the reads and find the open guy. Not as easy as some make it out to be.

My dream scenario (far fetched), is playing Florida in the first round, and Clemson for the NC.

As long as we are dreaming.... give me Kansas in the semis and then New Mexico State in the finals.

Shooting for the Div AA title?

Just trying to have a better SOS than Ohio State and Baylor. Instead of New Mexico State, throw in Maryland.

edit: not a slight on the Terps. I kinda like them. They just aren't very good right now.

In terms of potential matchups, the only teams that I would want to avoid are Bama, OSU, TCU, and Baylor. I may think differently about Baylor after seeing their new QB, and may feel differently about LSU if they play well at Bama.

Maybe I have my head up my ass, but I'm not at all worried about any scenarios. If ND wins out they are in, no doubt in my mind. NCAA football is all about ratings and money, ND carries a lot of both. Clemson could lose their next 4 games and I'd still bet an 11-1 ND is in the playoffs.

I don't think your head is up your ass...but I think even with winning out we need another conference to blow up in order to get in. I don't think the committee is taking ratings and money into consideration when determining who's in/out.

They aren't, but they are. That mattered for OSU last year.

Its funny to read everything in this thread... Trust me, I'm ecstatic with ND being 5th with a decent opportunity to make the playoffs if they win out, but you are kidding yourself if you think that ANYBODY knows how this whole thing will shake out.

Ive read anywhere from 4-20 different scenarios, let alone the domino affect when something will happen in the CFB landscape.

One game at a time, brick by brick. Lets start discussing options if/when we get through Stanford @ 11-1.

A lot of us watch a lot of college football. Obviously for the three and a half hours that Notre Dame is playing, it's clear who we want to win. But it helps to talk through the scenarios to know where our rooting interests are best served in the other games.

I understand all that, and I as well spend every Saturday watching CFB all day/all night.

Point though is that it doesn't matter if there is 4-20 scenarios because every week those "scenarios" will almost certainly change.

Just win. That is the ONLY thing in our control, everything else is just noise.
