I'm sorry I'm out right now not really reading the thread. Last I heard this was being painted as some sort of athlete forced into sex or whatever.

The only thing that remotely involves athletics is that some other players were banging the same girl... the idea that anyone was "forced" is beyond stupid, as are the racial claims. Just ridiculous but some people will do anything for a pay day.

Racial claims are BS....but many classes are paper or project based with no tests.....pretty easy to see what could happen there based on past results

Yes. Not the sort of move ethical attorneys make. This has "shakedown" written all over it.
This guy thinks it's ethical.

I'm going to withhold judgement until I see a picture of how hot the daughter is. All questions will be answered then.

Maybe it's naive of me, but I can't believe any lawyer would risk their license on something this crazy unless they had some sort of underlying basis in fact. Assuming for a second everything in the pleading is true, seems like there's a strong argument that the University is liable under respondeat superior even if they did not know what was up. Still crazy though.

There's nothing in there that makes me too worried about the football team, unless it comes out that they were all being encouraged by this tutor to run train on her daughter, which is more bad publicity than it is an NCAA violation, I think.

Pretty naive......a lawyer has no risk to their license at all. They take statements and file cases

"15. Defendant Jane Roe has used her position and employment at the University of Notre Dame du Lac to engage in routine and targeted sexual activities against other similarly situated young, African-American, male students, including several academically coached members of the University's football and basketball teams."

Much more will need to emerge before we can leap from that employment and the allegation to this:
According to the lawsuit, the University of Notre Dame knew or should've known about the academic coach and her daughter's sexual relationship with the male student

Under respondeat superior the employer is liable for the injuries caused by an employee who is working within the scope of his/her employment relationship.

The whole thing is designed to help the client (and the lawyer) cash in. The ND GC office might decide that a settlement would be better than going to trial. Give the baby his bottle (while denying any wrongdoing in the settlement agreement) and move on. This is the cost of doing business.

Gawker is reporting that the Academic coach has been fired.

I swear if this has legs to harm the athletic programs I will be extremely disappointed.

That was already reported yesterday by NY Daily News. There are no legs -- related to this lawsuit -- that would harm athletics. None. It's an absurdly shrewd tactic by the lawyers to try this case in the media with salacious (and outlandish) details PLUS tying in student-athletes. No one would care if it was just a crazy student being crazy, but if he says "and this also happened to athletes too even though none are part of this case at all!" then it gets headlines.

With all of that being said, the "academic coach" seems like a shady character. And often bad stuff can happen crop up when you start digging on someone like that.

The athletic bit was added to the lawsuit to get attention and shame ND into settling. It is wholly unrelated to the main allegations. The charge is that some athletes had sex with the lady's daughter, and felt "pressured" into doing so. This guy does not have standing to sue on their behalf, though, so nothing else should come of it.

If gawker is the first to report it, ignore it until actual credible sources confirm.

That's what I tried telling myself when Deadspin (Gawker) reported the Teo situation. Obviously this should not be as big but still, sometimes these people get the information first.

This is similar to L'Affaire Teo in that it will probably end up being a weird episode, but one where nobody broke the law nor violated NCAA rules. Again, this really has nothing to do with athletics unless some athlete makes similar complaints.
