Out of curiosity, do either of you guys think he would be successful in the NFL?

No. He's better off staying in college. It better suits what he does best.
I like to think Kelly's smart enough to agree. ;)
But I can understand the attraction of the Sunday game.

Man has the most beautiful hair. His hair makes me so tingly. L.A. could not handle that perfectly sculpted do.

Guy can recruit/motivate, and while ND would be something more than he is ready for...USC...he'd be ready for that.

Not sure that's accurate. Aside from the early morning visit that stole Ishaq from PSU, Diaco was notoriously disinterested as a recruiter. And his inflexibility relative to positional body-type profiles left us with some glaring holes on our depth chart.

Totally agree, I think if Tampa Bay or Raiders(Jacksonville) come a calling BK will be gone.

of course...SO everyone thinks he is chummy with Belichick because of Bill's warm personality. Who better to talk to? He IS going to pull the trigger at some point. I think he wants to win a natty before...I think he has two clocks running...a natty, and he's gone or if no natty and ten years goes by...he's gone.

This year maybe different but I hope he isn't here in 10 yrs if he doesn't start winning more, 8- 5, 9-4 ect ain't good enough.

I think if you watch his stuff at Uconn, you'll see where he is still body type, but has come off it some. Uhm, as to the holes...can't hang some of that on unholy attrition? ND isn't easy, as you well know. Southern Cal is a bunch easier, so even if you are correct, his weakness wouldn't be a weakness (as much) there. I think he'd win in bunches at USC.

To get things back on topic, in my opinion Cayucos, CA is the best "beach town" in America. Perfect waves, with offshore winds and 75 degree temps in December happens quite a bit. The central coast also has the best surf spots on the West Coast in case anyone wanted to debate that.

I could live with a cycle where 2 out of 5 years ND is in the hunt for a playoff spot, and wins the natty once a decade. The other 3 years can contain a 9-4 and some 10-3s and I think that would be good enough.

I understand your point though...it is time for the results.

Attrition had nothing to do with it. He straight up failed to recruit any replacement for Nix, and he only brought in 3 ILBs during his 4 years at ND. That's simply inexcusable for a DC running a 3-4.

I like Bobby D. He took a defense that was ranked 68th nationally in 2009, and whipped it into the one of the most suffocating units in the country by 2012. But the guy was far from perfect, even as a DC, and he appears to be in over his head as a HC.

Perfect...I'd say he sure wasn't perfect. I don't think he is in over his head...its Uconn. Yes we all have horrible nightmares about Uconn, but that Uconn has long been dead...He will make them compete...already has them competing beyond what they were.

I don't want Diaco for HC of ND, but I think the jury is still out as far as Bob as a HC overall. They had only two wins last season, and at the halfway point they're already one better than that mark this year. Of the 3 losses they have, one was a close one to Missouri, and the other was a competitive loss to a good Navy team. Their only bad game was against BYU I think. I think he has them moving in the right direction. UConn could end up bowl eligible at 6-6, but I think they'll probably finish 5-7. ECU is the question mark, it's a winnable game, but a tough opponent for them. That, or they would have to find a way to beat Cinci. UConn should beat USF and Tulsa.

If there ever was a coach that's in over his head, it's Chuck Martin. Miami had two wins last year, close ones against both UMass and Kent State, and their only win this year is Presbyterian. They were blown out by Ohio, Western Kentucky, and Wisconsin. I don't know who wanted him to come back and coach ND after BK is gone, but I wasn't really impressed with Martin's offense in his time here...wouldn't want him back even as an OC.

"In over his head" was probably an unfair characterization. An elite coordinator like Diaco was the perfect coaching candidate for a school like UConn. But if I'm Pat Haden, there's no way I'm taking a flier on someone who's not proven. And while Diaco's tenure at UConn may ultimately be considered a success, he's far from proving himself as a HC.

Absolutely. Haden's job could be on the line if he fails at another coach, even though he didn't hire Kiffin. I think they'll go with a proven winner, or at least try to. He can't gamble at this point on a guy like Diaco. I certainly wouldn't want to face a Diaco defense in Southern Cal anyway.

...well and maybe I should quit watching his signing day briefings at Uconn. I'll amend my opening statement regarding recruiting to say ...the guy could sell snow to an eskimo, but he needs to want to.

Haden's afraid of a rivalry with UCF?

UConn is the type of school new HC go to cut their teeth. It was obvious from the time he was here that Bobby D. wasn't ready to be a HC at a major football program. As Whiskey pointed out, his inability to be flexible is a problem.

An interesting point is that scum fans keep talking about how fantastically flexible Harbaugh has been. They say he's changed his tactics quickly and decisively in most of the games this year whenever something isn't working, and his players have executed well. Of course, it helps that they're one of the least injured teams in the country, but I thought his flexibility was interesting in the context of your point about Diaco.

Where has he been living? Why does buying/owning a house mean anything in the coaching world? He probably started in on that house months ago, before the USC position opened up and before the NFL season started; I'm guessing it means exactly fuck all to his plans.

Because, a big reason the rumors started was him having "an itch" to get back into college.

Chip at USC has a little RichRod/Michigan vibe to me. Kelly is obviously a great college coach but I'm not sure how it would translate to USC. It would be strange seeing USC use that type of offense (the Oregon version).

So the real question is who replaces Brian Kelly when he goes to the Eagles.
