Recruiting wrap: Ulloa has a top five of Arizona State, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Stanford and Vanderbilt and is set to visit the Sun Devils and Cardinal later this month.

Performance: The three-star safety broke well on throws up the middle and read quarterbacks to be in the right spot at the right time. Ulloa kept receivers in front of him, didn't allow any big completions deep and was especially physical in the end zone.

Does his frame look like he can put on another 20-30 pounds to play safety? His pass coverage looks good enough to play corner at the next level, but I'm wondering if his size will detract from being a safety.

kid is purely a special teams guy in my mind (and most likely a good one down the road). I don't think he's athletic enough to play corner and probably too small for safety.

I agree. Reminds me of Chris Badger. He has some toughness and good instincts but not much more.

I like the kid's moxie, but I'd rather not have him take up a scholarship for the next four years for a number of reasons.

1. We've got an undersized special teams Safety in Ferttita already.

2. I don't think McKinley is so talented that we should take Chacho just to appease him. We've already got some great young receivers on the roster and McKinley would just be icing on an already delicious cake.

3. Chacho would likely fill the spot of someone much more talented. We've got some great names left on our board for DBs including Vaughn, Studstill and Okeke, as well as some long shots in Fuller and Gardner. I know there are some guys that are takes no matter what, but we're going to need immediate contributors next year and we need bodies that are capable of playing CFB right off the bat.

"Tradition, the team, the coaches, everything," Ulloa said of Notre Dame. "I really like it out there. It's Notre Dame. You can't say no to them.

"(With Stanford), it's in California, a little bit closer to home. That stands out a little bit, too. The academics are great, the athletics are great. Overall, the environment over there is really great. I like the coaches, coach (Duane) Akina, so everything is really good.

It would be nice to have him but we have about 5-6 guys higher on the board with only about 3 spots left.

i feel like he'll be made wait right up til signing day to see if a spot opens up. seems like a great humble kid though just not sure he's a take for ND unless something really bad happens

Going to see him and Javon tonight vs. Orange Lutheran.

I won't complain if Chacho ends up at ND. Are there more athletic guys with higher ceilings on ND's radar? Probably. Are there others who might jump on the bandwagon as they watch the Pat Forde's of the world putting the Irish at the #2 seed for this year's playoffs? Maybe.

If he does end up in South Bend, I'll be happy the Irish are getting an excellent combination of RKG, a proven leader even surrounded by Type A, 5 Star recruits and of course, an accomplished & tested athlete. His measurables don't blow you away but his Sparq Certified 4.59 - 40 and 35" vert prove he's no bum. He's the Peanut Tillman of high school football. TO's happen when he's around. Intercept Tate Martell, Josh Rosen, Blake Barnett? No problem. Strip Trevon Sidney or Jack Jones? Ditto. 19 forced or recovered fumbles and interceptions and it's just two games into his senior season.
He's a lot like DJ Morgan, he's lined up against as good as you can compete with everyday of his football career. Whether it's Javon in practice, Javon, Jack Jones, JP Shohfi & others in 7v7 practice and the rest of the Cali WR's in 7v7 games or high school games where 8 of Centennial's 14 games were against national Top 25 teams including the co-national champs, Bishop Gorman and De La Salle and the then #3 team St. John Bosco.. Throw in a 9th game against Blake Barnett and Chacho has been tested by talent that the average ND recruit will only see either at the US Army All-Star game or not until they arrive in South Bend.

You can't lose with a guy like Chacho. Everybody's a guess to some point. There's been 5 star disappointments an walk on mega success in recent years in South Bend. Hell, Scooby Wright was a 2 star recruit. Too slow, no competition, blah, blah blah. I'll take his body of work especially considering who it's come against, his leadership among all stars and his polish in front of the camera as a sign that this kid is going to be a cornerstone of any program he ends up at.

Went to see #1 Centennial last night vs #10 Orange Lutheran and I'm here to tell you... this kid really is Peanut Tillman's mini-me. Centennial won 35-14 btw
He is constantly digging, ripping and punching at the ball and plays passing lanes as well as you can. He gets to gamble because both his CB's are Power 5, 3 star commits so it might be different if that was not the case.

He had perfect break on a pass during the first OLu drive while lined up at CB and if not for the WR, Ausitn Liles being 6-3 (future star - more on him later) and just getting a hand in there at the last second, Chacho was going 50 yds for a pick 6.

There were two plays where the teams are scrambling for fumbles that Chacho came out of the pile with. Both were ruled down before the fumble however.

Chacho made a perfect read from FS on OLu's last chance down 14 and intercepted a pass in stride and returned it 20 yards with some very Zibby like moves.

He also handled the punt returns flawlessly. He had one return of 30 yards down to OLu's 20 called back because of holding away from the ball.

OLu's QB, LJ Northington ('16) is a very good DT-QB. He's committed to Harvard and he's good enough to be a PWO at ND... at least. ND was recruiting him in that capacity I was told. Austin Liles ('17) will be a BIG recruit next year. He has a passing Pro-QB to work with next year. He plays like a 6-3 Samardzija. He is one to watch for sure.
These guys were a good test for Chacho and the Centennial secondary which is loaded (for high school with two more 3 star players - Cal commit - CB Camryn Bynum and WA commit - 6-2 CB Kentrell Love (STUD - all kinds of upside)
Even with those 3, Northington and Liles hooked up for 7 rec and 132 but they defended that many succesfully also including Chacho's two plays and Love having a sweet break-up on a perfectly thrown 50 yard bomb.

I'll get Javon's report up after breakfast.

If Stanford... good for him. He's a good kid and I'd be happy he goes that route over ASU. He'll be a player someday but ND is better served with DJ Morgan's future flexibility and getting a more athletic, rangy FS type...or two plus with Nicco taking a scholarship in the same space it isn't good roster management to double down there.

Hope this changes nothing in regards to McKinley.

Agreed. If a kid like this doesn't have a billionaire father, we don't need him.

its a pity in a ways because Chacho seems like a great kid and in other years there might have been a scholly for him at ND. Can't go wrong with that Stanford education though and I'm sure he will make plays when he gets his chance in a few years.

Am I in the minority in that Ulloa just doesn't impress me all that much?

Of course, having said this, I'm sure he'll be an incredible player in college.

Pretty sure if you read through this thread that this opinion is the majority haha. He just is so meh in everyway possible. Not big, not fast, not especially great ball skills, and not a especially great tackler. I don't really know why we offered. Think he should be a very low 3 star. Maybe we originally wanted him and McKinley in a package deal.

I think he just decommitted and feel bad for the kid because that's where he always wanted to go. Good luck the rest of the way

They recently lost Nygel Edmonds too. Is this Stanford making room for other players? Or admissions really saying no? I'd be inclined to say the latter. It's funny because we were discussing ND passing on these two guys earlier in the cycle in another thread a couple days ago.
