Any idea how long Alexander's visit is scheduled for? He's coming in tomorrow last I heard. I see it's supposed to be in the teens tomorrow, and if he makes it until Sunday, it's supposed to get 'warm' at > 32 degrees.

He is allowed to be on campus for 48 hours, so he will probably stay at least through Sunday morning. I believe he is bringing both parents as well, which is great news for us.

Just saw it, but per TJ on II, Coach Elston was scheduled to visit Cage and Sawyers today and/or tomorrow.

We end up with Sawyers, Lealaimatafao, McKenzie and Alexander.

McKenzie doesn't get the grades to work out and ends up somewhere else by next season

I think we wind up with Sawyers, Cage, Alexander and McKenzie.

And I would be REALLY happy with that.

Added Cage and Sawyers. Cage visit is tentative for 1/22, Sawyers still unconfirmed but I wouldn't be shocked to see him bump either the Tennessee or Georgia Tech visits. You also have to wonder if Derek Mason may be able to woo him back or at least get Vandy back in the race.

With Mason leaving, any chance any Stanford commits open up? I saw they have some solid front seven guys.

Usually I'd say yes, but looking at who those guys actually are I don't really see any of their defensive commits opening it up. I think it may have some impact on Solomon Thomas depending on what happens with Hart, and I also think it might affect Terrence Alexander.

About this guy, what's the verdict? I could only find tape of him playing LB, and I wasn't that impressed.

I'm not impressed with really any of the DT offers. They all seem like offers to "fill bodies" (which i'm fine with) instead of guys we really want. They are all last resort options. I'm sure they are good guys and maybe some of them could end up being good players here. But yeah… i'm not impressed by them.

Well I thought Cage looked pretty good, but I really like Sawyers. He seems to move really well for a big guy and have a quick first step.

I honestly wasn't impressed with Griffin, but it seems like he's a lot of people's #1 realistic option. I haven't watched the TX kid with the crazy name, but yeah, this Nelson DT seems like a big stretch IMO.

I liked Cage and Sawyers better than the other guys, but neither looked like guys with elite potential. Which is ok, not all prospects do, and some of those end up being just that. They both have tools that can be "coached up". So we'll see if one or both end up here.

That being said, both of their offers are products of a) losing Dickerson and b) BVG. If Diaco and Dickerson were both still here, they wouldn't have offers. For good or bad, I don't know.

On another note… can we all agree that having Schutt would be nice right now? jk… kinda...

I dont think the Kid from texas is even going to visit ND so I would count him out.

Cage, Sawyers, maybe Griffin and this kid seem to be only options at this point.

Looking at his 247 sports profile they have him at 6'3" 295 (scout had him at 274, rivals 280) and pictures of him taking carries out of the backfield. He could look shaky at DT just because they have had him at so many positions over his HS career. Regardless, if he is athletic enough to get the ball in his hands at that size he is worth a look imo.

Many different positions for a guy projected at DT is a prescription for an underrated player. At least there is a possibility for a long ball run. I guess the only down side is if he doesn't have the sand to get down in the trenches. But as far as potential . . .

JR Sandlin just said that they are looking for 5 commits for 2014 class. Though right after he advertised the fantasy camp. So possibly 5 recruits?

Could that just mean ND has 5 more spots open for their fantasy camp and are looking for those 5 registrations?

Its a possibility, though he does a lot with recruiting so I was slightly intrigued

Not sure what to make of his tweet, but in my OP I put that we're looking for 4-5 because ND will definitely try to take 4 more players, but there are enough other impact prospects on the board that if one wants to hop on the train late for whatever reason we will almost certainly take them. 5 is the max because it will put us at 27 which would mean with 2 EEs we're at 25 signees for 2014.

I think we end up with the four players IM8 said the other day: Sawyers, Cage, Alexander and McKenzie, with Quick being the most likely 'impact prospect' we add as that 5th guy, although I've never been real confident he ends up at ND.

That would be an incredible class. Thirteen (if you count Tranquill at LB) front-seven players on defense (not a bad response to the NCG debacle), two really solid prospects in the secondary, studs on the OL/TE, some high ceilings at the offensive skill positions and a mobile QB with time to develop. The only positions we wouldn't address are RB and S, and both are littered with young talent and not pressing needs for this class. The IrishMob and GoldenArmy are going to be fun to watch play together in the years to come.

And Sandlin was definitely talking about fantasy camp registration. It's possible he was being cryptic and his tweet had a double meaning though.

Cerenord, DT who we were evaluating, committed to Duke.

Loy said the other day that Alford was at school for McKenzie and we decided that we won't be offering. Maybe that changes if we can't get anybody on the board but for now no offer.

As long as we get at least 1 out of Sawyers, Cage and Nelson, I don't think we should reach for another DT just to take one. I'd prefer we could pull 2 of the above, but 1 is absolutely necessary.

Let's end with Sawyers, Cage, Alexander and Quick / IM please.

Agreed. It seemed like a reach from when the name first came up.

Reality dose: ND gets 1 more commitment (no DT's) and lose one verbal.

Nature of the recruiting cycle-with the Irish anyway.

edit: Hope for the best, expect the worst.

I'll bet you 5 million vbucks we get more than one commitment.
