No, they won't. But you've got to have him ready to go at this point. All it takes is Kizer's helmet getting knocked off.

In that case, they should be able to have one of the 30 walk-ons in the red hat brigade take a snap and hand it off one time rather than burning a guy's redshirt for that.

Winbush is cool with that? I'd assumed he wanted to at least be in the competition for next year. What a mess. Thanks Everett.

Let's go over board hypothetical here - To an outsider, this looks like Wimbush burning a RS will mean 1 less year for him at ND. Does Hunter Johnson see that and reconsider? With the path to PT being so much easier than Tennessee? lol.

So basically, RS is coming off this year, and it's expected to be applied next year. Makes sense.

Injury forces Notre Dame to revise plan for quarterbacks

Question.... Was that taken from a comment from the coaches or Loy? Either way, horrible presentation. Either the coaches made a comment that was completely unecessary or Loy went rogue and put words in their mouth. Either way, terrible presentation of the facts.

If you have to burn it
And you do
Give him a real shot at doing something, a true competition
Don't waste a year just getting him junk minutes if he has the talent

I don't see how a QB competition would be good for anyone right now. Give DeShone the QB1 reps, give Wimbush the QB2 reps, and have MVG ready to come in during victory formation. DeShone can't afford to get anything less than 100% of the 1st team reps for the immediate future and a QB competition would absolutely prevent that. Unless the staff is sure that Wimbush is ready now, then give HIM 100% of the reps. Either way, QB1 needs ALL the reps to make up for all that lost chemistry with his receivers. And I know some of you are going tongue-in-cheek with the Golson comments, but this absolutely is much worse of a situation because of his greed.

If you think DK can take you to a NC, then yes, would be stupid. If the coaches think he is heads and tails the best option for the future of the program (not just this year), it would be stupid.

If you think we just went from 10 or more win team, to an 8 win team, would not be stupid. If the coaches think Wimbush has the talent or higher upside, not stupid. If you think the depth of the position over the next 3 years is important, not stupid.

Just my opinion, but Wimbush had the highest composite score of all of our QBs (98/45th National/3 DT vs DK 91/232nd/12Pro vs MZ 93/170th/4DT). I'm not saying stars are everything, but they aren't nonsense either.

It's not like DK got a ton of reps in the spring. He started by getting 2nd team reps for the fall. Those reps were also for plays designed for a MZ/BW type QB.

I'm not saying DK sucks, or can't lead this team, or is not the best option. I'm saying if the coaches believe the readiness is even close, it's better for the future of the program to make this year count if they have to blow the redshirt. Knowing BK, he will have packages for both if he wants a QB that can run.

What if Kizer goes down, you need to have someone ready. Wimbush needs to be ready for us if we have that situation.

I would bet everything that Kizer got a considerable amount of reps in the spring.

I called in December that starting Zaire in the bowl game would make Golson think about bolting. If I can see that from Ohio, there is no doubt that Kelly in South Bend made preparations for it.

I don't see a realistic scenario in which Wimbush doesn't play this season.

considerable vs 1st or 2nd string? I'm sure he did in the summer, but from everything we've heard, and from all the bitching about EG stealing spring reps, I just don't see it.

I also had him pegged to flee

Me either. BK's design this year has been built around a running QB. I see BK using both. DK heavy at first (as more of a pro QB), with simple run oriented plays for BW, and BW working in more in more if he matures and is successful.

I not sure about the spring but all summer he has time to prepare. I am ok with him leading the offense I think he is more prepared then most think.

I agree. I think Winbush needs to be ready to go but if at all possible and ideally, Deshone takes every snap for the rest of the year.

So, if Kizer can remain healthy, what do people think about us going to the Wildcat for certain situations?

Obviously, if Kizer gets hurt and needs to come out for a series or game or whatever, we'll need to burn Wimbush's redshirt. But say Kizer stays healthy, but every so often has his helmet knocked off. I'd rather keep Wimbush on the sideline, just on the rare chance we can preserve that year, for a play and let CJ run the Wildcat every so often.

I would speculate that Kelly is right now planning on getting Kizer as many practice and game reps as possible with the 1s (to get Kizer ready).

At some point though, I have to believe that if things are held together well by Kizer, Kelly will be trying to get Wimbush some game time 'in case' Kizer gets injured, rather than waiting to see if Kizer gets injured before deciding. Would expect that if GT is a win, Kizer sees all of the snaps (unless it is a blow-out), but that Wimbush will get practice reps and game time in the UMass game (once the score gets out of hand)

I find it hard envisioning a scenario where Wimbush isn't in games in 2015

I just don't see the issue, it's not like he can't take the redshirt in 2016.

Wimbush can redshirt next year but it is hard to be told you won't play an entire year, especially if you've already played.

Not if you're 3rd on the depth chart.

Play the best players that give you a chance to win now. If Wimbush can add an element to the Irish offense now, then let him get in there in certain packages. As Buster said, he can redshirt next year if needed.

Yup, hate to burn the red shirt, but he definitely is the highest rated QB coming out of HS on our roster. Not that that, in itself means anything. I hope DK turns out to be a stud, but whoever has the best tools and leadership should get the opportunity

Maybe this has been commented on already, but does Wimbush role with a nose ring, or is that glitter from one of the cheerleaders?

Or maybe I'm just seeing things? haha

Just let him start for four years. He'll figure it out. He's Zaire with more speed and a stonger arm
