Idk how his demeanor was when he gave that response but it could have been another slight at all the Texas fans getting into Notre Dame Stadium.

ND fans should know that when the Irish have the ball noise is not a good thing.

He didn't specify offense or defense, but I see your point. My take away was that the new construction is creating a different audio level with the stadium noise. My thought process is that the Crossroads project could be beneficial to us on defense with acoustics.

There is no doubt that it will. Think of it this way, the student section noise was basically directed toward the field then out of the bowl. Now there is a HUGE structure on the other side for the sound to reflect off of. It will make a difference. I was on the 20 yard line close to the Texas band and have not heard it that loud on that side of the field in a long time (usually sit over there once a year, was in the same place last year for scUM).

BTW, the look of the construction both inside and outside the stadium looks like the finished product will be enormous. It will certainly look good from the inside, though I wonder about the external blending in with campus.

Exactly what I took from it. Hoping this means we're moving towards a 12th man effect with the noise.

Absolutely, that would be great. I'm sure those that were there could attest to the Texas game being a great atmosphere with a loud crowd as many of the players, recruits, and coaches have already stated.

With him not specifying Off or Def. it may not have been a dig at the selling-high like nature that some Alums/ticketholders had for the Texas game with a heavy amount of Texas fans getting inside. My point being GO TO THE FREAKING GAMES AND CHEER ON THE IRISH YOU LUCKY ENOUGH ASSHOLES TO HAVE SEASON TICKETS!!!!!

It very well could have been a subtle dig. I might have mentioned in the Texas thread that a metric fuck ton of Longhorns were coming in for this game, more than your typical visiting crowd. They were gobbling up tickets at $300/seat like they were candy, they felt that was a great price. Many more were coming in all the way from Texas with the intent to scalp tickets on campus. There was going to be no doubt that orange would be in that stadium last Saturday.

It wasn't a subtle dig, it was an explicit dig. In the last question of the post-game press conference, he was asked point-blank if he was bothered by the amount of orange in the stadium and he said that he absolutely was. He went out of his way to praise the student section, but it was clear he was unhappy with the rest of the fanbase.

It won't feel like one giant building from the outside. It'll feel like three (pretty giant) buildings. Plus, nobody is ever on the south side of the stadium anyways (the only spot from which you'd see all three buildings) unless they're parking. Most of the pedestrian traffic is north of the stadium (which will be unchanged) and west of the stadium (which already has the press box anyways).

For those that haven't been to UVA for a game, it's a joke. I wonder if it'll be better strictly because it's ND, but UVA has terrible fans and atmosphere. They dress up preppy for games and don't fill the stands... I'm not sure if they've had a single sellout in this current decade.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a solid 40-50% ND fans commuting down from the DMV and Carolinas.

This. It's nothing like ND when it comes to pregame atmosphere. But UVa is a beautiful campus and Charlottesville is a cool town. For those heading into C-ville, I'm sure it will be a good time. Just don't expect a Big 10 or SEC-type gameday atmosphere.

On a diffent note ... wasn't it Taquan Mizzell who said that he had never been caught from behind until Jaylon Smith did it at a 7-on-7 tournament? Anyone else recall that from a couple years ago? I could be thinking of a different Virginia player.

Yes, because I really wanted Mizzell. I really hoped he would show some interest but he never did.

Was it as bad as the Sea of Red when Nebraska visited?

No and I think that Nebraska game was a factor of two things....1 - Nebraska did travel a lot that day & 2 - There was a ND shirt made for the game making fun on Nebraska and that shirt was red. Made it look worse than what it was (it was still bad tho).

Have you seen it in person in the last month or two? Not trying to be difficult, but this is much bigger than just a press box. It was very surprising to me how big it actually was on the outside.

True, and that game was different because it was a great game. OT, IIRC. Nebraska had a lot to cheer about. Texas fans had nothing to cheer about, so I honestly didn't even notice how much orange there was in the stadium once the game started.

Also, the ND fans who showed up showed up rowdy. It was really loud in there. I loved that.

It was the loudest I'd ever heard the stadium and I definitely heard a lot of noise during the first drive on offense from our own fans. I didn't hear much when the offense was on the field after that first drive.

Tenuta hasn't done anything since his early years at Georgia Tech

I watched the UCLA game and it was like watching him with ND. It was horrifying watching those late blitzes never make it to the QB. Rosen just picked them apart. The DL did ok stopping the run but they got taken advantage of with their aggressiveness. They were wore down too. Probably be cause it was a west coast game but they looked gassed at the end IMO.

Watch Tenuta adopt a bend dont break philosophy this game and have massive success.

Kelly said that the new construction made the stadium louder on the field. Any doubt that was in the plan?

Kelly said that we would really grow to like the running backs as a unit during the season. I want to see them Saturday. It is at the top of my list for featured improved performances this week. (Last week Shumate had a really good game.)

I think the whole Tenuta conversation is funny. In essence, you are taking a guy that forces the issue more than he takes what you give him, and pitting him against a team that takes what you give them. How much more fraught with irony could this matchup be? First one to repeatedly shoot themselves in the head looses!

(My money now and forever is on Tenuta.)

As someone pointed out the cost of Tenuta's exotic blitzes, was a bevy of wide open Bruins. Not only is Rosen not a Zaire, but the UCLA WR corps, though good, isn't the Irish's!
