Jones Jr. battled strep throat all week. Didnt have Perry down for any tackles, but he did have a huge hit to break up a pass.— Matt Freeman (@mattfreemanISD) August 23, 2015
One tweet mentioned that IMG has Perry playing a very deep safety position, so that could account for the lack of tackles.

American Heritage is a great team, but with how many 5 star kids are on IMG to lose by double digits is quite the slice of humble pie, I imagine.

6 guys in the 247sports top 150 NOT counting Malik Henry, and that does not include the two guys we have committed.

Malik Henry does not play for IMG. Shea Patterson does. However, your point still stands.

Qb has a TD if he comes to the seam on the near side.

The score is a little deceiving. IMG got possession with about a minute left and no timeouts, and drove about 80 yards. Patterson threw a game-tying TD pass with no time left, but it was called back for holding. AH ran a 99-yard pick six back to end the game. (Props to ISD's Matt Freeman for his excellent coverage.)

Appreciate the input. Definitely makes it more appropriate, BUT this IMG team was supposed to be just stupid stacked and have arguably the best defense in the nation.

I honestly would not be surprised to see them rally and possibly show that this is really the case, but I think getting beat like that in your season opener can hemorrhage your team, particularly one made of kids who are all held in such superstar high regards.

Yea, I know. That's why I said not counting Malik who 247sports still lists as an IMG kid. The number is still 6.

You said it well, and correctly Beau!

(I got your back!)

Im guessing there is a lot of pressure for him to take visits since he surrounded by D-1 talent. Being around all of those kids that are enjoying the process can be hard for any high school kid.

I would hate a decommit, but I'd rather lose him than Elliott. We don't have much problem landing tweener SS type players, we have a major problem landing FS's.

While I like this kid and I hate to see anyone decommit, with the potential limited number of spots for this class and the number of higher quality safeties we are still in contact with, a strong 10-2 or 11-1 playoff year could land someone better.

Does anyone else feel that if he decommits he should take Tony Jones with him? I'd love to see us just take one this cycle (other than Tony) and then go for Biaggio Ali Walsh and AJ Dillon next cycle.

I don't think Tony Jones would go with him. IDK why, but I saw this coming concern with Perry. Maybe it was my 6th, or even my 7th sense.

guessing a sp error? and no i don't think jones is going anywhere...he has a great connection w/ his specific coach, gets to play baseball as well as football...dad seems all on board

I thought Jones and Perry were tight and it was more wishful thinking than anything else. The closer we get to the season, the more I wish we wouldn't take commits from players so early. Jones Jr. and Perry are fine players, but I feel like we could do much better with a big season. Same goes for Stepherson, Book and Jarron Jones' brother. I love, however, Claypool and Elliot's potential. Just don't see it with the other 3 star type guys.

I LOVE long safeties. He looks plenty athletic. 4.5 40 is fine. Can bring the wood. That said he needs some technique work...good get if he stays.

Not a spelling error. He's saying he doesn't like Jones as our back in this class.

I had to check the number of posts you've made after reading this.

We have mass panic attacks on this board because we don't land kids early, then you made that post. LOL

These guys haven't grown up playing as a team like other kids in HS. Playing as a team is as much mental as it is physical and it takes a while for teams to really gel.

That's why teams like Butler with lesser talent continually beat teams with more talent. They've played together for 2-3 years. They know and trust each other and are team first. Guys that play for IMG are playing for themselves.

His interview with ISD after Irish Invasion gave me a little bit of concern back then, but I wrote it off as nothing. If we keep him, great. If we lose him, I'm confident that the staff will pick up another safety. That said, it always hurts to lose a kid and I would love to see Spencer in Blue and Gold. Let's wait until he plans a visit somewhere else before we panic.

I haven't been the one driving the panic train. I'm pretty sure I wrote awhile back that we should pursue a 100% flip strategy. Don't take anyone that hasn't already committed elsewhere. I wasn't serious of course, but we do really well once the season starts making kids realize we're a superior option. Last cycle it was Wimbush, Crawford, Barajas and Aliz'e. This cycle we could very well get Betiku and Hayes if we have a good season. We know commitments mean less and less every year, especially with the ridiculous "holding a spot" strategy. No need to take a ton of reaches in July just because a lot of our targets are committed elsewhere at the time.
