What is the "uniform surprise"?

Uni Watch » BC, UCLA & ND Get New Unis: The Good, The Bad and the Ugly

If this were to be Notre Dame’s full time uniform, I’d be a lot more venomous in my disdain, but since it’s simply a one-off (to be worn for what Notre Dame calls its “Shamrock Series”), its just ugly*.

Notre Dame is playing Boston College on November 21st, at Fenway Park in Boston (ironically designated a “home” game for the Irish). As such, UA and Notre Dame are calling these uniforms the “Green Monster” uniforms — an allusion to Fenway’s famous left field wall. (*audible sigh*). OK, it’s a one game thing and Notre Dame has introduced crazy Shamrock Series unis for several years now. One seems to be crazier than the next.

The uniform itself has a few interesting features (even if the uni itself is rather garish): the shoulder stripes, gloves and pants all have stripes with 11 notches — symbolizing Notre Dame’s 11 national championships. If you look at that last image, you’ll also notice the now ubiquitous (it seems) UA knee/thigh striping (in blue and gold). You’ll also notice the helmet has ND’s Leprechaun logo (you can see it a bit better here (also below).

Fans (or non-fans) of the team know the normal (standard) helmet has been solid gold for years, but recently, the team has been putting stuff on it for special games. The helmet also has a blue and green stripe which tapers off with the 11 notches as it goes from front to back. Also, the facemask is half green/half blue, which is a bit tough to look at.

Its a travesty Tim Brown wasn't running around in that uniform from 1900.

Haha, I was thinking the same man. I think we should totally rock these. Maybe come on the field on motocycles or something. Now that would make a statement!

I was thinking Harleys, but i'm cool with horses.

Could you imagine the smell once a 100 horses starts discharging on a 100 yard closed field haha.

A full mounted cavalry charge out of the tunnel would be awesome all the same :D

They don't belong in Fenway Park. Notre Dame is about history, tradition, echoes. Fenway Park is the perfect place to play on those values. These jerseys belong in a dumpster fire.

Fenway is a dumpster fire... so it seems to fit.

Dude, you are WAY over-reacting. I mean, I don't even know where to begin with your first post. I'll just say you're letting your NE bias get in the way of rational thought.

As for ND and their fan base...you know what gets fans happy? WINS.

and this is why we're all so pissy all the time...

Like them or not, my Dad WILL be buying whatever they put on sale.
He will buy it because it represents ND and will argue with us till we give up that it looks perfectly acceptable to wear out to dinner. Hahaha!

I am sorry, let me explain, this is not "bige", this is his daughter. We have recently found out that my Dad has a neurological disorder. It has robbed my Dad of all of his movement. My Mom & I take turns reading this site to him to , "keep him up to date" with everything. I am a Notre Dame fan as well & I hope to attend Notre Dame after graduation, but I am not in my Dad's league! Hahaha, after reading this site to him I know why he LOVES it so. You guys are JUST like him!!!

Anyway, I told Dad I was going to post on here & make fun of him for his choice of dinner wear & I thought I should explain. GO IRISH

I want everyone to know how wonderful this guy, his daughter, and the rest of his family is! Here is a great thread to express your best wishes and communicate with Big E. (Laken, you just let the genie out of the bottle, so I am going public with it! Tell your dad I said to stop loafing around; we have too much to do!)

I'm incredibly saddened to hear about his condition. Tell BigE that he is in our thoughts and prayers. He is a good friend of everyone on the site. It would be great to be updated from time to time on his condition if possible.

Tell him we are going to make his profile rain with reps!

I got my Shamrock Series jersey today. Nicest piece of sports gear I've ever owned.

I'll get it signed by Malik on the 5th and then it goes on the wall.

I am sorry, I do not know how to start a thread, so I am posting in the only thread that I have posted on. Some of you guys wanted to know about Dad. Dad had to be taken to the hospital Tuesday night. Mom was washing his face & Dad said he was having trouble breathing. Mom thought she had just gotten his head positioned wrong, but that wasn't it. We called an ambulance & they had to put a tube down his throat and breath for him. He is on a ventilator now. Dr's told us just while ago that they are going to try a new drug tonight. It's a long shot, but if Dad responds they think he will regain his ability to breath on his own. Mom asked them to put dad in a coma or something because we know it has to be torture waking up every so often not being able to move ANY part of your body and having something down your throat. The ONLY way Dad has to let us know to roll him over or move him around some is by talking. The Drs said that they usually put people "under" in these circumstances.

Oh, by the way, My Daddy is a fidgettey person. He is NEVER still! Mom says he should be tired in the morning because he moves all night in bed, hahaha. Shoot, the only time Dad is still usually is during Church services...and he is ALWAYS bouncing his knee then! I think that has to be bothering Dad the most, not being able to have me or Mom move his arm, bend my knee, put my arm on my chest, cross my ankles, roll me over, hahahaha! I am not saying that to complain, I would do it every hour for the next 50 years for Dad if God will leave him with me!!!! I just miss hearing Daddy talk! I'm sorry, I'm rambling.

Hopefully, I will post on here tomorrow & tell y'all that Dad is talking again because they took that tube out! THANK Y'ALL for asking about Dad and for your prayers!!I can't wait to read this website to him & catch him up! My Daddy has ALWAYS BEEN MY HERO & HE WILLpull through this!!!

Thank y'all so much for allowing me to come on here and blab. Strange as it may sound, it really helps me and Mom to read on ND on here. It helps me to talk/type as well. So, THANK YALL

Thanks for the update, Lil' D. I'm sorry it's not a more positive update. Keep your head up, I'm sure your positive attitude is an important piece of his fight right now. He's very lucky to have someone like you in his life.

Let him know that he's in our prayers and that we all believe in him getting through this.

which one did you get? The standard replica?

The Authentic. I wanted the hand sewn numbers and patches. The Premier and the Replica both have heat transfer. The other diference has to do with the jersey material. The $100 Premier uses the same UA Heat Gear fabric as the $200 Authentic. The $80 Replica does not.

The bookstore uses the $100 Premier for all of it's pictures. The patches on the Authentic are gold like the hoodie below, there is no white in the leprechaun like shown on the bookstore's models.

Hey Lil D... You tell Big D that he's just 13 days from his Irish sending the Longhorns back to Texas with a big, ugly L. I pray that the doctors can give him some relief tonight and he's back to talking about our beloved Irish tomorrow. Stay strong kiddo!
