There are some real weaksticks on this board. The kind that turn the yellowpages when they really want to gain market share.

The good news? You guys now have something to blame for the next 10 years if the Irish don't win on Jan. 11th.

Yeah, ya'll are a bunch of scaredy-cats!

But for real, I trust that the distractions from the cameras and interviews will be limited. BK and JS too smart to let it get out of control.

Like BK was too smart to let a student film practice in a wind storm on a scissor lift tower?

Not even sure where to go with this one.

Not sure why those situations would be similar, nor why you feel that tragedy is a good point for debate.

My point is, you just can't assume Kelly is always going to make the right decision... Sometimes things seem like a good idea and it's not. mistakes happen... There is a reason NFL teams don't want Hard knocks, and there they only do it in camp... During the season... things can snowball... I don't put blind faith in JS and BK and just assume everything they do will be perfect

There's a difference between blind faith, and trusting them on a decision concerning extra media around the program.

I question BK's judgement quite a bit in many different areas, so I don't just trust him "because he's BK!!!!" I trust him because he's always done a good job in dealing with the media, and I don't expect this to be any different.

And there were plenty of other examples you could have made to prove your point about BK making questionable decisions... but hey, there's no shock value in the every-day stuff, I guess.

If I have to choose between Swarbrick & Kelly with knowledge of all details surrounding this deal vs. you and your opinions, man.... then I think the choice has been made for me.

I choose you.

well, some admins thought that that freakbase video was a good idea too...

i'm not sure, but my gut is telling me to be worried here. and im definitely far from "ecstatic" over this. I worry things could play out negative for Our Lady here.

I feel sometimes it's best to remain behind your own mystique...and not get overexposed; peeling back the curtain takes away all that ND Football mystique.

We can just agree to disagree. There is a reason why the NFL put rules into place to force teams to be on Hard Knocks. But, no big deal there either. I mean, those aren't college football teams, they are in the NFL and cameras isn't anything new.

The NFL and college football are apples and oranges, in this case, in my opinion. In the NFL, the time that your players spend in makeup, interviews, and possibly production meetings for the show directly takes away from the time that they have to prepare for the season/game. In college football, you are already limited as to the amount of time that you can have these kids getting ready. There is extra time for them to participate in some of this media-fueled hype. So a "distraction" in the NFL is something that directly affects a player's preparation for a game or season. Whereas, in college football, a "distraction" is something that affects their mindset. I think that the leadership of this team, both team leaders and coaches, can keep players focused.

Kelly's decision was to hold practice outside. He did NOT, to my knowledge, make the decision to send a guy up on a scissor lift in high winds. That decision should have been made by someone from the Video Dept. People need to quit acting as if it went down like follows:

Some anonymous ND employee: "Coach Kelly, Do you think it is safe for us to put a videographer up on a scissor lift to film practice?"

Coach Kelly: "Sure!! What could possibly go wrong?"

It's not BK or JS thinking this through. One thing they can't control is what the players think, hence distraction.

This is my point as well, you might control that showtime doesn't show Player X ripping apart the offense... but can they control Robinson feeling slighted that his interviews didn't make the final copy while they paint Amir to be the best slot player of all times.. College kids are prone to jealously, prone to pouting and prone to losing focus

Most of us are excited for it because it means more ND coverage and more access... but most journalists and beat writers, including Eric Hansen who I respect, don't think this is a great idea...

That's nothing new. Without this series, the only players we'd hear from for the entire season would be Malik, Jaylon, Schmidt, Day, and maybe a few others. Jaylon Smith and Joe Schmidt were live on SC yesterday, and I didn't hear anyone here complaining that it might hurt the feelings of the other players. Smith and Ronnie Stanley were on the SI cover. Alone. This program means everyone will get at least some exposure. It's actually and equalizer in that regard.

This guy gets it.

If there are jealousy problems based on who gets featured on camera, there are bigger issues this team needs to sort out anyway.

And at ND, distractions are the name of the game.

I do respect those who worry that it could negatively affect the team, and I respect WHY they worry about it.

I just don't agree that those issues are a threat to come to fruition.

The way I see it, if this were USC/Stanford/OSU/Michigan getting this, I'd be jealous. As a fan, I'm going to love it and it might be able to combat the negative recruiting and actually shine light on how impressive the ND empire is. I'm drunk on koolaid though so TIFWIW.

I think this is a good point. I imagine that if this was happening to Michigan or OSU we'd have a slew of fans upset about we don't get these opportunities.

OMG! Look at that Showtime camera! It is obviously soo different from WNDU's, WSBT's and WSJV's cameras! NBCSports and ESPN's too! That is going to blow the minds of our country bumpkin players who have never had a mic or camera shoved in their faces before by outlets like, 247, Rivals, Scout, UTR and the like. The Irish are doomed!
Wish they would have picked Michigan! Guaranteed 8-5 year even without 10 injured starters! The sky has fallen and all of Irish Envy's finger pointers have something to aim at.

Is now a good time to coin the phrase:

Thanks a lot Showtime!

This can be used anytime we have negative news surrounding the program, akin to "Thank a lot Obama".

Anyone?

I'm not as quick to liken all the listed cameras in the same category, but see your point.

In the end, people far smarter than me, with an opinion that matters much more than mine, green lighted this, so giddy up.

ND is the big winner along with Showtime. Free labor/talent has a great return. But it just rubs me the wrong way knowing they are not getting anything and they get to use their person for profit. Seems a bit hypocritical to scold a kid for taking money (ahem, NCAA) when people all around them are. I would be pissed knowing others can profit but I can't. More of a knock on NCAA than anything.

Why the outrage over college football, but not over engineers who have to give up their rights to anything they invent, to work for XYZ Corporation? A lot of companies that employ engineers make it a standard condition of employment that the company owns the rights to any product/service/procedure that said Engineer comes up with during his term of employment. Companies make BILLIONS on the inventions of guys that they are paying maybe $100,000 to $200,000 a year to.

This is going to be cool. As other have mentioned, it will be great to recruiting. And when we win a bunch of games, it will be must see TV!! I can't wait to see more. I always wish that WatchND would put out more content. I feel like there is demand for it, but we are left with 40 seconds every day. Maybe we get an additional 2 minute interview. I need more Irish coverage!!! Need something to hold me over for the next 3+ weeks...the only unfortunate part is that it doesn't start sooner!

As for Eric Hansen, you mean the guy who never breaks anything despite being the beat guy for the biggest paper in town? Asks his injury question to start the pressers? And wrote how many stories on Lennay Kekua without even making a phone call to see if he could get any actual information on her or her funeral, flowers, anything? Who is supposed to fact check this stuff?
