just let him play whereever he wants and then worry about it later

Totally agree. Recruit insane athletes and let them compete where they want. Let the depth charts work themselves out in the end. I hate losing out on super athletes like a Claypool or even an Ezekiel Elliot due to position concerns.

I think I read somewhere that the staff wanted him as a flex TE/WR. He could be our TE for this class and I'd be all for it. He has the frame to fill out and the speed to be a nightmare at TE. And if that doesn't work out...there's always the ability to switch him to defense like you said.

And if we start running the ball more (fingers crossed) we could always use some big WR's and more TE's to help block. Plus with Claypool he could probably be a good deep threat and a good blocker with his size and speed...opposing defenses would never know if they should crash down to stop the run or play it safe so Chase or ESB don't take the top off the D with a deep route. I don't know...I just really like the kid's game and hope he ends up at ND.

I get your concern if he is just a WR tho...we seem to be in good with a few top WR's (McKinley, Alloway, Callaway maybe?) and already have one committed but we are currently loaded at WR on the depth chart and probaly should only take one or two more this class at the most. We'll have to see how it plays out but Chase is a versatile athlete so I'm all for signing him up.

Three smart posters. Everyone should listen to them.

And send them money.

(So I get a third?)

Kids reminds me of James Onwualu now that i think of it

Funny!

Dubs, you are always cracking me up!

I can't think of who he reminds me of most. I have never seen a kid going into his senior year in high school at 6'5", 225 lbs, with that kind of speed, quick feet, athleticism, soft hands and general brolic!

I really think this kid could be that good. He kind of gives me a Jim Thorp, Jim Brown feeling.

Not that I don't think he couldn't be stellar on defense. If the kid is healthy, stays healthy, has the desire, and really has the kind of ceiling that he appears to, I could see a player that goes both ways situationally.

I don't know that I see him as a defensive end, because as bad as we need good defensive ends, I think this kid is more of a skills than even a big skills kind of guy.

He can cover, if you watch his film. I could see him taking the really good tight ends we face in coverage, like last year when we had no good solution for Nick O'Leary (for e.g.).

I cannot tell you how powerful it is to hear Denbrock moan (for lack of a better description of Denbrock's response) when this kid manipulates a jump ball around one of the best defensive backs at the II camp, and grab it with the other hand, keeping upright, and his feet in bounds. It happened more than once I am told. And I can understand why everyone wants to keep this under wraps.

I think you have another Jerry Tillery situation here; I still can't blame HH for trying to keep him under the defensive coaches radar!

Being from Canada, does anyone know if he has Native American blood? If so, what people?

There were some reports that he could hold off on announcing at The Opening and take OVs. Per Anna, he has made up his mind and will make his decision at The Opening (starts July 7th).

Anna likes ND here

This is a guy where you just get him on the roster and worry about his position later on.

With his size, I would assume it would be very tempting to put him at WR with ESB, Robinson, Boykin, and Alize. But they already have plenty of size at WR.

I have read that the staff likes him at linebacker or flex TE (so basically WR lol)

I see visions of two TE sets with monster outside receivers. Dual threat QB with an insane offensive line that opens Volvo sized holes for lightning in a bottle RB's

Shall be a fine day, indeed.

I believe ND's last football player from the neighbor to the north was LB Bill Mitoulas in '94.

TE Billy Palmer '00-'03. Was born in Ottawa, but played hs football in Florida.

Also, recently, T. J. Jones. Born in Winnipeg, but moved down south when he was a small child.

However, I can't recall a player who we signed out of Canada who actually played Canadian hs football his senior year.

I F'ing hate Hopkins but he's giving in and switched his CB to ND, saying it's a done deal for us. If Oregon was our competition and they're giving in then I feel even better.

Haha, well played. With family in town and work has been hectic. So post II, I thought I'd take sometime away. Was still checking in periodically just not posting. Panda did great work.

Tape is meh. Only 3/4 star. Do not want. Is not a difference maker immediately. Only want immediate difference makers.

Am I doing it right?

Anyway, very excited for a kid like this to come aboard.

with ESB and the Chicago kid coming in this year coupled with Admiral Jr. (3 bigs @ WR), i'd like to see this kid on the defensive side of the ball. However, like many, just take him.

Barton Simmons has jumped on the ND to crystal Ball train. Didn't really need any further confirmation that he's picking ND but here ya go if you did.

This will be a big time boon for ND recruiting. A guy that will sky rocket up the rankings and pick us publicly on a big stage. I'm thinking he'll test/measure out really well at the Opening as well.

Hope it's not too big or else we'll have to spend 5-ish pages discussing whether or not he's a tool.
