This team is frustrating to watch about 50% of the time.
A). The deep defense [Johnston and Sauerbrun] has been great --- Johnston is the MVP so far, and is so confident with the ball that she advances it instead of just passing off safely. The defensive wides have been great in the group play and mediocre vs Colombia. We need them back to "great."
B). Offensively, Rapinoe has been nearly the whole show aided by the solidity of Heath. We may be screwed without Rapinoe. I do not fault her for dribbling as much as she does, given the malfunctioning of most others. She is like Steve Nash --- so good at creativity that you have to give her the chances to do it. The placing of Heath in the line-up has solidified things on the opposite side --- thank the stars that the coach did that.
C). I don't blame Morgan at all for the pitiful offense. Our mid-field players have been horrid offensively. I have gone nearly whole games not hearing Lloyd's name --- what the hell is going on there? Wambach is doing all her old body will let her. We just have to adjust to that. Holiday? Sometimes there, often passing the wrong way. Our offense usually has worked better when Krieger/Geiger{?} or Klingenberg are on their game and push it along the flanks. We get almost nothing out of the players in the middle.
D). The idea that Leroux might help us I greet with extreme skepticism. I've seen her good vs lesser competition or in garbage time, but impotent vs the big girls. To replace Rapinoe [impossible] and Holiday I'd rather see this coach [who I am beginning to doubt] put a couple of veterans in the game rather than flashy youngsters who aren't ready. If we decide to use Morgan on the flanks more, we can probably achieve SOME offense, even without Rapinoe.
... my opinions worth less than two cents, but not too unlike the ex-coach who announced the Colombia game.
