They way they've been sputtering in the final third I'd take Columbia to cover,... 3 goals seems like a lot.

Abby wambach is useless

She's like a ND running back. You gotta have the ball before you can do anything with it, and this offense isn't getting her many touches. She had two opportunities, one shot on goal and the missed penalty kick. Johnston and the rest of the defense have been great, but the offense seems tentative and unsure of exactly what it is they are trying to do.

I hate the way the offense is playing and a big part of that is because they are constantly attempting to get Abby the ball in the air - there is no continuity to their attack.

Hopefully, with two starting midfielders out for the China game, they will go to three forwards and have Sidney, Abby, and Alex on the field together.

This team is frustrating to watch about 50% of the time.

A). The deep defense [Johnston and Sauerbrun] has been great --- Johnston is the MVP so far, and is so confident with the ball that she advances it instead of just passing off safely. The defensive wides have been great in the group play and mediocre vs Colombia. We need them back to "great."

B). Offensively, Rapinoe has been nearly the whole show aided by the solidity of Heath. We may be screwed without Rapinoe. I do not fault her for dribbling as much as she does, given the malfunctioning of most others. She is like Steve Nash --- so good at creativity that you have to give her the chances to do it. The placing of Heath in the line-up has solidified things on the opposite side --- thank the stars that the coach did that.

C). I don't blame Morgan at all for the pitiful offense. Our mid-field players have been horrid offensively. I have gone nearly whole games not hearing Lloyd's name --- what the hell is going on there? Wambach is doing all her old body will let her. We just have to adjust to that. Holiday? Sometimes there, often passing the wrong way. Our offense usually has worked better when Krieger/Geiger{?} or Klingenberg are on their game and push it along the flanks. We get almost nothing out of the players in the middle.

D). The idea that Leroux might help us I greet with extreme skepticism. I've seen her good vs lesser competition or in garbage time, but impotent vs the big girls. To replace Rapinoe [impossible] and Holiday I'd rather see this coach [who I am beginning to doubt] put a couple of veterans in the game rather than flashy youngsters who aren't ready. If we decide to use Morgan on the flanks more, we can probably achieve SOME offense, even without Rapinoe.

... my opinions worth less than two cents, but not too unlike the ex-coach who announced the Colombia game.

Agree totally on Johnston and Sauerbrun. The deep defense has been the strongest aspect of this team. Rapinoe has also looked good. She's the only one on offense that doesn't appear to be hesitant. We will miss her contributions in the next game. Wambach is totally dependent upon the others to get her the ball. She is still an offensive weapon, but the offensive scheme (if there is one) has not been getting the ball to her.

I'm not sold on Morgan. She may still be hurting, but she seems slow compared to the opposition. On several occasions she was out front when the ball was kicked into the corner only to be passed up by one of the Colombian players in this game and one of the Nigerian players in the previous game. She may need a few more games to get back fully, or perhaps she's lost a step or two due to her injury.

Solo appears solid, but has not been tested too much up to this point. Johnston and Sauerbrun have done a nice job of keeping the ball away from the net. However, with the difficulty this team has scoring, Solo could be the key to keeping us in the games coming up.
