I like this even better:

Swarbrick told Russell that the coaches would have named him a captain for 2014, the only player in the program assured of that honor. “I busted out crying, just bawling,” Russell says. “It was uncontrollable.”

Really interesting that the staff told him he'd be a captain before anyone else.

so do we have a forecasted timeline for hearing something definitive?
when does summer practice kick off?

In order to be eligible to play, a player must be in good academic standing from his last semester. So I would assume that he would have to complete Summer classes to even be eligible.

A great piece on Russell. I can not wait to see him back on the team. We should all say prayer that he stays healthy and gets drafted high. He's a high character kid with an unbelievable work ethic.

i noticed too that the Nd athletes that are heading to south africa as part of their studies will be joined by a trainer and a medical officer to assist them while they train over there in their free time. that's a really nice thing for them to have in that they can experience new surroundings but not have their athletic careers suffer. a step in the right direction for ND athletes for sure

Each time I read an article about him, I can't wait till he gets back on the field. You can feel that hunger, and that strive for excellence in each interview.

@Jake_Brown
Looks like KeiVarae Russell got the official (and expected) nod of approval from #NotreDame to return.

Love that guy! I can't wait to see him back out there. As Ice Cube said "Today was a good day."

Looks pretty ripped for a CB. That is probably an old pic, who knows. Yeah, whatever. :whoknows: Serious, I can't wait to see how good he is this year after shaking off the cobwebs.

Looks more like an RB body than a CB haha. Hopefully that speed is still there.

With speed like that does anyone think Kelly would give him a shot at returns on special teams?

I'd doubt it personally. It took Kelly until game 13 to throw someone other than Goodman back there in 2011, and he's usually content to let a backup handle the return duties. I'm hoping Prosise gets the chance on kick returns and then whoever feels like fair-catching on punts can do it.

Oh god. Every time I almost have that game completely wiped from my brain, it gets brought up. I'm surprised BK didn't give himself a heart attack between that play, the Gray fumble inside the 5, the Crist INT inside the 10, and the helmet-INT....and whatever else I've forgotten from that game.

Actually makes some sense though, since BK goes ultra-conservative when he gets burned by special teams. We had a decent punt return game in 2010, this helps explain why he went with Goodman in 2011 after this play. Other fun examples are how we are in FG safe every single time since getting beat by the fake FG against MSU in 2010 (even our "Desperado" play against Pitt in 2012 looked like it had never been practiced....and probably hadn't considering we had duplicate jerseys out there) and how we stopped trying on punt returns this past season after the Cuse punter beat us with his fake run.

He's been pretty content to lose the ST battle every week to avoid getting completely burned. I'm surprised he didn't have Brindza kick every kickoff out of bounds after Fournette took one to the house.
