Yeah, I doubt they "brought it over" from Greece, but rather started making it here and happened to be greek. Probably didn't know that it was taboo to put chili on top of noodles and got lucky. Greek people don't even eat chili in Greece. Greeks are innovative like that. They didn't bring laundromats over either.

Most greek owned restaurants aren't greek food only, most commonly they are Americana with sprinkled greek dishes.

I can say with 100% certainty that chili on top of italian noodles with an cow milk cheese is not something originally from Greece.

Hey bucko, bet you wouldn't say that if you tried my spicy chili with macaroni pasta. Won a local GA contest 3 years running.

Greeks don't eat Gyros either, is that not Greek or is just Greek to Americans?

So bring some mizithra or kefalotyri if you prefer. I'd go mizithra on kima, you?

.

I agree, but at least Gyro's use some greek inspired ingredients like lamb and goat cheese.

Nothing about italian pasta covered in southwest chili and covered in cow milk cheese says "greek". There are no ingredients that are greek food inspired. Not to mention, there is an actual "greek spaghetti", which bares no resemblance to skyline.

I'm more of a Pastitsio, Avgolemono & Dolmades kinda Greek.

Bullshit!

Gold Star or GTFO

You are really dumb.

But seriously, my favorite is actually Empress Chili, but it's inconvenient to drive to Empress compared to Skyline/Goldstar.

When all you taste is cinnamon and parsley, you can't argue that it tastes like Greek spaghetti. I spent 12 years in a kitchen with an OTB (Off The Boat) from Piraeus and her daughter the chef. Trust me.

As far as spaghetti being Italian pasta... semantics. The word for macaroni comes from the Greek, Makaria which is a pasta made from barley. Greeks were making hilopites while Italians were still in caves. Don't get hung up on the word spaghetti because that noodle is the most popular and when you put kima or any red sauce on it it becomes spaghetti to Americans.

And when it comes to Greek food (or any food on the planet), it's Moussaka or nothing. Definitely would have been my last meal if Kiffin would have stayed at SC.

I hope you were able to have moussaka at Rodini's down in Michigan City before they closed. Mr. Fegaras' was awesome. His kids still serve it at Galveston Steak House by the Blue Chip if you go there instead of Four Winds.

I hope Mr. Mack is able to appreciate the difference between the ND fanbase and lesser places like MSU and OSU... where at this moment they are arguing BK v. McD's

Austin, we're the top rung on the ladder. Come on up!

I could go for a 3 way, two cheese coneys, some Montgomery Inn ribs and some Graeters.

As a resident of the Greater Cincinnati area, I'm not opposed to issuing my first ban-hammering on whosoever deems it appropriate to talk down upon Cincinnati chili.

Damn, how many other IEers are in the Cinci area? I'm about 30 minutes north of downtown. BBQ at Rack's place next weekend!

Montgomery Inn ribs are overrated. Like many places that are "famous" for ribs they slather the meat with half a bottle of sauce, plus the ribs can be dainty. If you want real ribs in Ohio you go to New Riegel, a little podunk town not far from Findley. Slow cooked ribs, family recipe, and they're served in a paper boat. Can't be beat.

On the plus side, if Mack does like burritos like his buddy, we've got a Chipolte not much farther than Cincinnati's...so we've got that going for us.

Agree on Montgomery Inn. Their quality has gone downhill. Early 90's, different story. I'm still living in the past. I'm still wearing my "Roselle" headband, sunglasses and flat top as well.

This. Man. Knows.

I would rep you, but a rep wouldn't do your post justice.

To win three years in a row, it must be tasty, but to put any type of pasta in chili is sacrilegious.

New Riegel Café, MMMM! Just down the street from St Boniface, I mean All Saints. You are dead right about this one, but if anyone wants to take 224 across, it is about half way between Tiffin and Findlay. Just a little south. Signs will take you until your nose takes over!

His is actually in the pasta thread. No self respecting chili would be caught hanging out with pasta.

Bogs, you just got a little more awesome in my book.
btw, I am a little biased when it comes to New Riegel ribs. My great uncle started the cafe and it's still family run to this day. Grew up with those ribs, so it's hard to appreciate anything less, I've been spoiled.
