What has been some of those contributing factors to the recent midwest woes?
Some things they talked about were:
Why such a long time between getting large groups together for visits? Junior Day to II is too far a part and while MSU is having these guys visit all the time.
-this is me talking, we did have a ton of really good Cali players on campus when MSU didn't but that leads into the next point.
Are we spending too much time nationally recruiting, especially in a year when the Midwest is so loaded? We're geared so much towards sending coaches on the road much further than schools like MSU that those coaches aren't at home prepared for the Midwest guys to visit.
ND needs to speed up the pace with which offers go out. This isn't to please the recruit it's to save time for more recruiting. They bring up examples of how we've had to send coaches two seperate times to get the ok for an offer. Where they believe we should be able to do much easier/quicker saving time to focus on other recruits.
This next one I'm only vaguely remembering it but it was essentially. They believe that the position coach should get involved much sooner. Once the regional guy has established that relationship it should be handed off. They reference HH as what they think every position should be like.
they also mentioned example: that sanford is out in cali talking w/ defensive players and then BVG has no idea how well he is at evaluating so then tape has to be reviewed by BVG and then there seems to be too much of a time gap between this all occurring...they were saying like a month going by which then turns some kids off as they aren't as interested as the other schools immediately offering...
one of the problems when you are recruiting nationally and don't have access to a local recruiting hotbed i guess
NOT really...on the podcast from rivals the pin point the problem on not having position coaches doing the recruiting except for HH....they also said if we did like MSU is doing right now...there is plenty of recruits within a short distance from us that are top talent but we are leaving our home to go everywhere
right off the top of my head
austin mack
king

kareem
mccall
im sure im missing a ton but you get the point..those are 4* or more
the other thing they mentioned was that we should be inviting these kids to every practice to make them feel wanted...even if they can't get to all they are all only a few hr drive
Hamlin has been a PSU lean for a while now...ND doesn't have much of a shot here as of today. Hopefully that changes moving forward.
May I ask where you're hearing/seeing that from. I'm seeing kid has OSU and parents have Pitt.
Told Loy that he's going to get back to ND for sure over just isn't sure when. Lyght has made quite the impression here and that seems to be helping. IMO, he's the best CB we have a legit shot with. I should also add that while he says he's wide open, it looks like OSU is the team to beat currently.
sure was decked out in OSU gear at the camp past weekend
I hope some day that we're the "thing to do"
We were during the 2012 season, thats how we landed some of the 2013 class which was loaded. That class is going to play a huge role this upcoming season. Starting QB, Top 2 RB's, arguably the most consistent DL we have, 1st and 3rd (probably Robinson) WR's, best CB, 2 starting OL, starting TE, starting S (5 star), and arguably the best player on the entire team (Jaylon Smith).
I'd take KVR over Luke...but I hear ya.

Luke was better last year than KVR was in 2013. KVR has more upside due to athleticism but Luke was put together the most complete season from a corner in awhile. Luke had more production INT's PBU's etc. last year than KVR did in 2 seasons. BGI just did a podcast on this and solidified this in my mind. Some forget that KVR wasn't good early on in 2013. Michigan was a terrible game for him. He bounced back and finished the season how we expected him to all season.
Fair points. But I would like to see how many times KVR was targeted in 2013 to the number of times Luke was in 2014. Then from there see the number of receptions, yards, avg yards, TD allowed, etc

Luke was targeted very little late in the season last year. He really became a shut down corner. They used the ASU game for example and when matched up on Strong he did exceptional. The only time strong did anything of significance is when he got matched up with Butler. As of today, I have to give the nod to Luke as he's been active and had the better season of the two. Any argument against that would be totally based on potential that we havent seen on a consistent basis. With that said I love KVR and think he can put it all together.

Absolutely guys, I hope it didn't come across as getting down on KvR. That wasn't my intention. He's going to be a boss as well.
Hamlin is my number one want at CB with Fuller a close second. As far as our CB on campus, Luke is the best CB we've had in an awfully long time IMO. I think he is an NFL CB. Great footwork and coverage skills.
I'm really excited to see what Watkins brings to the table as he has overtaken Butler.
Love Hamlin but I would take Jordan fuller over any recruit we are currently targeting..... Fuller is going to be a beast
