I will be very surprised if he is on this team in 2016. I can see him being in the top ten after this highly successful season for ND.

Jaylon is currently a first round pick in both Kiper and McShay's 2016 mock draft / big board. Is there much indication that he'll be leaving early? It hasn't occurred to me.

I hope he stays, but I think he is a top 12 pick and he is gone if healthy... He will make enough money that he can go back in summer and earn credits to graduate....

The fan of ND wants him to stay.

The fan of Jaylon wants him to go.

The fan of both helps me see the silver lining. Assuming he stays healthy and dominates like we expect, he'll be considered a top 15 pick. He should leave and capitalize on that value assessment. He'll be a junior, jumping from ND to capitalize on his value. That will promote the program to others wondering if ND is still capable of producing top-level athletes.

He'll be a great spokesman and role model for these younger kids. I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that he'll still get his degree down the road. We will lose an incredible player but it may pay dividends down the road.

Leaving early entails having a monster season and maintaining the high stock he currently has in the eyes of NFL scouts. From strictly a football fan standpoint, I'd trade two decent seasons for a magical one every time.

A championship and 4-5 first rounders. Do it

You are right...there are 5 guys who could go 1st round, maybe more depending on the year.

He's the only one on the '15 team I'm worrying about replacing. Ronnie Stanley may go #1 and the '16 line could be even better. The '16 LB's can't possibly be in the same conversation as the '15 squad, can they?

At the B&G Game my dad and I were in the clothing booth and we saw Jaylon's cousin. We started talking to him about Jaylon and about him coming back next year. Jaylon's cousin's exact words were, "I tell him all the time he needs to stay for his senior year and get his degree from Notre Dame."

I think Jaylon (like Manti) stays for his senior year.

If you are considered a top 15 pick and if he actually plays the position he should have from the beginning and has the season most believe he will how can you pass up that money? Would love to see him come back but you can come get your degree whenever you want.

If he's at the top end of the 1st round like most think he is, it's a bad decision to stay. The opportunity cost is too high. ND's been there going on 175 years, it will be there when he's done. He'll either not need it or be able to afford a couple of semesters out of his own pocket.

Kid will be a absolute Notre Dame legend if he stays all four years. 2nd team all american already and the possibility of two 1st team selections

The risk of getting hurt is just way to high. Unless ND can get him a hell of an insurance policy, the best thing for him is going.

What if we finish just outside the playoffs? Or make it and lose first game? Does anyone think getting that close would entice him to come back for one last shot?

I think he's a top end first round talent but it seems like GM's are less inclined to take LBers in the top ten, unless they can get after the QB. I have no doubt Jaylon can get after the QB but he's been a victim of his own coverage skills in our defense - they rarely blitz him. Maybe that changes this year. I think some sack numbers is all he needs to get into the top ten (and a great combine but I think that's a given).

I can't believe anyone is really having this discussion. The #16 draft pick, Kevin Johnson from Wake got a guaranteed $10M over 4 years.

Would a 3rd year computer science / engineering student ever pass up a $10M guaranteed contract offer from Google to come back and graduate? What the hell do we go to school for? To learn how to make a living.... (My apologies to the philosophy and theology majors.)

Great point. With our improved talent and depth at LB for the next two years, do they rush him more?

I don't blame Jaylon if he leaves early and that's why these mock drafts are just talk and print to me. The last mock draft I looked at has OH St QB Cardale Jones going #3.

It didn't hurt Manti with him staying and it certainly won't hurt Jaylon.

The 2016 draft is a year away...let's enjoy this year with Jaylon.

It certainly can. He'd be a fool not to consider injury. It's a violent game, my man.

But I do agree, let's enjoy him while he's here.

WE were having that exact discussion last night. If he had 10 sacks to go along with everything else, he's probably a top seven right now. BUT even if he's a 5ish sack guy in '15...after his combine numbers and his tape when he is sent after the QB...GM's will know they can make him into anything they want. As far as an athlete at his position... who will be in his class, Myles Jack maybe?

Myles Jack couldn't hold Jaylon's jock.

Shaq Thompson is a decent comparison and he went 25th this year. Jaylon will probably put up a better combine.

GM's know what Jaylon can do. He doesn't need to have many sacks to help his stock. To me a good comparison is Derrick Thomas of the Chiefs.

No Thomas was a straight up pass rusher, probably the best I've ever seen. Jaylon is not in his league as a pass rusher, but he does other things better.

Scouts seem to think his best position is ILB in a 3-4. I would compare him more to the former OSU lb and current steelers lb Shazier
