Do any of the boxing fans on this site want to take back what they said about MMA being boring compared to boxing lol
I was left with the feeling both fighters played nice for the most part to set up a sequel. IMO, people won't be lined up to shell out $100 next time.
If they really want to "save" boxing, they will eliminate the decision altogether and remove the round limits. Just fight three minutes at a time forever until someone is knocked out, quits or dies. Nobody wants to see a fight where both fighters intention is to avoid having physical contact with the other guy.
I know several people who bought the fight, and they were all pissed that they wasted their money on it. To the casual viewer, how do you award Mayweather the winner when you just watched him run away from his opponent for over an hour? This is why boxing is dead, and MMA is far more skilled and exciting to watch. Who the hell would ever pay 100 again, to watch Mayweather run away for an hour and then be declared the winner? Its completely flawed. Boxing should award points towards the aggressor in the fight. This fight was identical to the Mayweather vs De La Hoya fight in 2007. Floyd somehow took away De La Hoyas belt by running away from him all fukin night. Its absolute garbage.
I'm a casual viewer, but I don't think Floyd "ran away" for over an hour. Floyd did what he always does: Let the guy throw some punches, then counter and make them pay. Every good shot Manny got in, Floyd landed two. It was exactly what Floyd wanted, and Manny didn't stay aggressive enough to do anything about it.
Also, Floyd threw more punches than Manny. Even if they were via the counter, doesn't that still kind of make Floyd the aggressor? Manny tried to press Floyd with his footwork, sure, but he never capitalized off of that.
And I HATE Floyd. He's a vile human.

Floyd has never been the aggressor. How many times did Floyd actually step forward and go after Manny? He flat out never does that. He just runs away and then throws these soft punches. Floyd throws about 75 soft little pussy love taps every match. The majority of the counter punches have no power to them. Its pathetic, that he wins because he can throw the most love taps. Its glorified sparring!!
I hate floyd as much as the next guy but he is far and away one of the best defensive fighters in modern history of the sport. People get confused when it comes to boxing about "running" away from a fight. He never ran he just countered beautifully against manny. The better the boxer is the less he seems to be appreciated with the casual fan, i love the sport of boxing and despise Floyd outside of the ring but he flat out put on a clinic.

I don't know how they added up the power punches, but to me power punches equal an obvious effect on the opponent. I didn't see Manny fazed once as where Floyd was shook up a few times and every time he hugged Manny or ran away to avoid going down.
I know this is Floyd's style and I don't think anybody is denying that he's the best at taking advantage of the scoring system. The problem is nobody watches boxing to see someone focus purely on the scoring system to win a fight. It’s why he got booed and catches so much flak. Nobody wants to see that shit!
Notice how boring it was to here me talk about scoring systems and boxing together.
Stronger and Faster. Hardest Punch. Can take a Punch. Dodge and Counter (with something that does damage). This is what we want to see in boxing. Floyd's faster, but his counters didn't do shit to Manny.
But people knew that going in. I don't understand why this fight was so hyped. Two over-the hill lightweights, neither with a reputation for winning by knockout. This fight would have been great in 2010. Last weekend was the retirement plan.

Should "the aggressor" at least be required to throw more punches in a fight?
Can boxing be saved? Seems like there's a lot of rules in place to protect the boxers and there's guys like Mayweather that focus on the points while casual fans want action. Boxing diehards will always watch regardless, but I wonder if we'll ever see boxing get big again like it was during parts of the 60s, 70s, and 80s.
