From the Master Thread:
Notre Dame along with Florida State, Missouri, LSU, Texas Tech contacted 2016 QB Brandon Peters. Wiltfong likes this kid quite a bit and it looks like some other schools do as well.

This surprising that we are that interested with Henry, Pass, Haskins, and Costello. May be talented but we have some higher priorities

Did Blake Barnett teach you nothing?!??

QB dominoes fall early and fast. Since we struck out/passed in '15 we MUST have a QB in '16. What happens if Henry commits to ND this weekend but then decommits later in the cycle? Likely all the other QBs will be committed and it's never easy to flip an out-of-state recruit, much less a QB, in an instant. It's always good to have a close to home contingency plan (especially one that is quality).

Usually the exception not the rule.

Qbs do not usually flip. What does the staff tell Malik? We are going all in on you, but we are worried you are going to flip

Read a few articles that Asmar Bilal laid him out on one play. Apparently both had good games.

A lot of factors in play here, this being one. Also, the possibility of bringing in 2 QB's is also one. Lastly, this kid is pretty raw but from what I've gathered from Wiltfong he really likes this kid. Thinks he has some serious upside. If FSU is calling him on day 1 of the recruiting cycle there is something there.

Now, are we going to recruit over the top of Henry, absolutely not. Is FSU reaching out an indication that Henry might be ours, possibly. The reality is this is just smart recruiting to keep our foot in the door.

The staff has there big boards of QB's for 2016. My guess is Henry, Pass and Patterson sit at the top. So they are just making back up plans in case they don't work out. There are plan A,B and C guys. Nothing against Peters but I don't think he fits plan A or B. So it's about developing contact with him maybe if ND wants to take two QB's next cycle.

Exactly. Even if Malik wants to come into the class, that doesn't mean anything. They need to keep recruiting the position because a miss is inexcusable.

WHEN Henry comitts... I say go after a second QB that you can convert to another position once both are on campus. Like a Battle or Holiday type.

Keep recruiting all of them. Betters our chances of landing one or two.

Will also visit Michigan on April 4. Skunkbears are the current perceived leader for his services.

What looked like a slam dunk for ND here isn't anything close to that currently. UM seems to have a significant lead at this point. Wiltfong has been pretty adamant about this.

It seems pretty obvious he's not the guy we want. We're pushing harder for other guys. At ND white QBs need not apply...

It seems like we've faded for all the 2016 QBS with offers that I can think of, but I might be forgetting someone. I expect we'll know more after Junior Day if he makes it.

I get that the stable is full and we have others higher on the board, but good God do I hate seeing Michigan reaching into Indiana for one of our better prospects.

Peters knows Johnson is better right now with a year less development and is South Bend bound next year. It's most likely that the only way he ever plays at ND is if a rash of injuries hits the position both ahead and behind him. This goes for 99.99% of the QB's in this class. To be honest, if my names not Eason or Costello, I wouldn't have even thought about it.

How do we know Johnson is heading to South Bend? Did I miss something? I thought he had been taking a lot of visits elsewhere? I'm mixing up two players?

Exactly what I was thinking. Does ND have a shot at Johnson, sure. But we are facing an uphill battle. Wiltfong CB'd him to Penn State a month ago. Heck, Loy hasn't even CB'd him to ND.

Just some hopeful fanboy optimism fueled by California IPA's. As long as ND doesn't sign a mid 4 star or higher QB in this class, It's my opinion that Johnson will be in South Bend in the fall of '17 (if ND really wants him). If I'm Peters or any other 4 star QB that wants to play, you couldn't pay me to go to ND in the '16 cycle. I'd need a down year in recruiting for separation like Johnson will have.

But...

I said the same thing last year and Wimbush squashed that idea, even with a 5 Star legacy in Eason waiting a class behind.

Good problems to have.

Just got a gigantic boost in his 247 ratings to the #46 overall recruit based on his "first two weeks" of football.

Anyone know if this kid is actually that good? Or just another Shane Morris on the Michigan hype train?

You can watch his highlights from the first two games online. After watching them, I'd say yea, he looks pretty damn good. Size, serious arm, and good athleticism makes him to look the part. He played damn good game against Ben Davis who is about as good of an opponent as you'll find in Indiana.

He has looked like it in the first two games. Looking at his film before his Michigan commitment vs. Hunter Johnson's film, it was my opinion (as evident in the posts above) but more importantly, basically every recruiting expert that he wasn't HJ.

The results from weeks 1 & 2 say otherwise. So far you'd have a tough time arguing he's not at the Eason - Costello level. Going into Ben Davis and doing what he did is elite.

That said, I'd still rather have Wimbush in '15 redshirted, Book in '16 redshirted and an elite '17 dual threat athletic type with a plus arm like Wimbush. After the double digit win season the Irish are going to produce, they will be sitting pretty for that type of recruit.
Knock on wood.

To pass on this kid early and end up with Ian Book looks like a mistake at this point. I will say that when the rest of the world didn't like Brandon very much Wiltfong was steadfast with his analysis that he was going to be a baller.

Peters was/is a better HS football player on the field, in the games. I don't know how good of a recruit Peters is or how good he'll be, but I do like what I've seen of him.

Morris didn't play on very good teams while at Warren DLS, especially compared to other QB's from MI like Alex Malzone at Brother Rice or Jayru Campbell at Cass Tech. Now those two QB's played on All-Star teams compared to what Morris was working with. Having said that HS stats aren't the end all be all, but he was completing only around 54% of his passes in high school (which is not good) and his 39 TD passes vs 18 INT's over 3 years as a starter on varsity didn't exactly scream 5*.

Morris got rated so highly because he went to a bunch of camps and combines, and in t-shirts and shorts the guys who make the rankings drooled over his arm talent. I've seen Morris throw live, it's impressive. There is no doubt about, the kid has a GREAT arm. He had better pure arm talent than any kid in his class. Probably than any kid in the last few classes. He throws a pretty looking ball and the velocity and distance is off the charts. I can see how the guys who make the rankings would fall in love with his size and ability and project that out.

A LOT more goes into playing QB than just having the size and the arm. That's what these recruiting gurus who make the rankings fail to see in just about every single recruiting class.
