ran the wrong play on 1st and goal at the end.

was calling for that same outside zone play he'd been getting 15-20 yards on all day.

instead we run to the boundary with less guys to block and he gets stuffed for a yard setting us up to pass on 2nd and 3rd.

8 yards a carry. This one may have lost the game though.

Okay, what's the deal? I can't find a SINGLE highlight vid for this guy in 2014. Not one.

He's not a highlight star, just an overall really Solid back. Idk that there'd be much for big plays.

That seems to be the case for ND. Is it me or do other schools seem to have more highlight vids and such than we do. It's rather odd, I'd think ND would have tons of Youtube videos, but it seems like LSU, Georgia, Auburn, Alabama, USC have a lot more, or at least more prominent ones.

Those schools actually play their five star athletes....

We'd have sweet highlights against FCS teams too.

Tarean Folston, Notre Dame
Folston quietly led the way for Notre Dame’s rushing attack in 2014, recording 889 yards and six scores on 175 attempts. Through the first six games, Folston eclipsed more than 50 yards only twice and did not score a touchdown through his first five appearances. However, the Florida native was more effective in the second half of the season, recording four 100-yard efforts over the final seven games. With a solid offensive line returning in 2015, the arrow on Folston and teammate Greg Bryant’s production is clearly pointing up.

I think this is probably on the mark. TF is a terrific back. He'll keep impproving. GB is sooooo hungry, he's gifted, and probably a little frustrated...I look for some vicious violent runs, and some home runs from him...perfect storm coming there...

I haven't been this confidently excited in a long time.

CRYSTAL BALL

I’m doubling down on Folston. I expect the biggest season from a running back in the Kelly era — and I’m pegging Folston for a 1,200 yard, double-digit touchdown 2015.

Part of this confidence comes from seeing what Mike Sanford did riding a running QB and top-shelf back at Boise State. The other part comes from seeing Notre Dame’s offensive line figure itself out this spring instead of mixing and matching into fall camp.

But mostly it comes from the natural talent I see with Folston, a back who’ll get better as he collects touches. There’s nobody to steal them from Folston to begin the season. And after he establishes himself, there’s nobody who should take them away from him, either.

So stay healthy and Notre Dame will have a running back to showcase.

I think to have a monster yardage season as a RB you have to be able to take it to the house. Something I don't think is in Tarean's skill set.

He could get 20 carries for 100 yds every game, but I doubt it. Would love to be wrong here though.

To double down on Folston you'd have to double down on Kelly committing to the run. I just don't see it happening.

What do you mean by "take it to the house"? He found the endzone 6 times last season and showed breakaway ability against BYU his freshman year when he busted a 43 yard TD. I guess I don't know what you mean when you say he "can't take it to the house".

I'll take that bet.

Folston had almost 900 yds last season w/o BK "committing to the run" and while splitting reps with Cam and Greg. I think the 1200 yd prediction is pretty solid considering the new QB, the LSU game, and GB being suspended early on. I'm definitely bullish on Tarean.

I'm in wait and see mode with the running game. There has been a lot of smoke regarding MZ and focusing on running with him as well.... BK can't help himself and will still probably throw it 60% of the time. Also this is predicated on or ignoring whether our defense can actually stop anyone this season. I am in wait and see on that one too....

"Taking it to the house" to me, are longer runs for td's (lets say +25 yards to be generous, which isn't that long really)

finding the endzone period is not taking it to the house IMO, maybe it would have been more clear if i said home run threat?

A 43 yarder vs BYU (his longest career run) doesn't prove to me he has that ability. His longest run the year before was 26 yards. He is a 20 carry, wear you down, (dont read big bruiser here) and shake a guy or two for some extra yards.

Tarean's game has never and will never be out-running people.

I sat in the south endzone vs Oklahoma, watched him get hawked by a backside corner on a run that started at the 39 and he got caught at the 5. (even with the stumble this guy was catching him, see below around 50 second mark)

IMO, it is going ot be hard for him to break 1200 yards without a couple gashing runs because I dont, and I dont think Kelly does, want him getting beat 20+ carries every game of the season (which i think he would need to get to 1200 yards).

But, like I said, I hope he does have 1200 yards and 15 tds.

Our best year we were almost exactly 50/50 right? That is what I expect to see this year.

Last year we actually rushed more than we passed believe it or not though it was very close to 50/50. In '12 we rushed 56% of the time. Each of BKs other years here we passed more than rushed though it is still about 52-55%.

If Kelly actually does commit to the run, 1200 yards is being very conservative.

With the option play we'll be running, plus the oline, folston is going to abuse teams.

Like was said before, he had 600 yards last year in a pass-happy offense while sharing the load with two other runningbacks.

He averaged 14 carries a game last season. Bryant is out the first 4 games and we have an OC that has had a 100 yard back every season he has been in charge of the running game (Boise, Stanford, Stanford). I guess I just don't see it as a stretch.

But I certainly understand the trepidation.

He's shown he can consistently get 5+ yards per carry and that he can handle plenty of carries as well. Something went wrong with the play calling or an injury if he doesn't crack 1,000 yards easily this season.
