We need a top 10 list of recruits we are lucky did not pick ND.

Chris Clark would make the list IMO. Strange recruitment......I hope he figures it out and is successful in the future but man the baggage is heavy here.

I agree, but in this case, Clark was dropped by ND. His grades were unbelievably pathetic. And then you throw in all the drama with this kid, and he was an easy drop.

I argued with a UCLA fan on Twitter two weeks ago about Clark vs Alize. He commented on the video of Alize's catch in practice that was going around, saying that Alize was overhyped and a drama queen. I couldn't help but remind him of Clark's recruitment and the four different teams he was *committed* to at some point.

Might have to remind that guy of our debate if this turns out to be true lol.

Haha, it's funny this came up. I did check the Bruins stats against Virginia last week to see how he did. Big goose eggs there. It's gonna be awful hard to go for 50,000 yards as a TE when you open with 0 yards your first game. Man, did this kid fall for UCLA's bait hook, line, and sinker.

kid had mono and lost like 20 pounds. he had no business being on the field. Im guessing Mora played him to try and keep him happy

That definitely seems like an intelligent way to coach a football team.

Chris Clark will probably be a NFL player. Not going to trash the kid, I hope he does well. God knows I didn't know what I wanted at 18.

I dunno guys...

I root for dudes who have the odds stacked against them, regardless of whether they end up at ND. For example, Isaiah McKenzie is a guy I will always pull for.

But this guy had all the built in advantages you can have in life. Went to one of the ELITE prep schools in the country. Had (by all accounts) a great family and great support structure. If he is truly leaving UCLA, then I'm happy because fuck Mora. And I hope he figures it out, but I won't necessarily care if he doesn't.

Was somebody trashing him?

Not really, but the only reason I'm glad he didn't pick ND is because of Alize Jones. We've had a number of guys who were 'head cases' for lack of better term, some work out and of course some don't. But I would have taken the gamble with Clark had we not gotten in with Alize. He's a guy that would play early like Alize, and sometimes that (along with other things) is enough to have a head case lock in and embrace 3-4 years.

1 game for 2 years off your clock. Ouch. So he'll have 3 to play 3 starting in the '17 season.

Dude needs a PR firm to manage his life. His last 2 years have been straight Douchesicle.

I would have never taken the gamble on Clark and I said that when we were still recruiting him. It's one thing to have a huge ego, it's one thing to flip flop from school to school, it's one thing to love the spotlight of recruiting and to keep schools interested in you so that your name could still stay in the spotlight, it's one thing to have awful grades.....put that all together, and the chances of him making it at Notre Dame were beyond minuscule.

You can't survive at ND if you don't put in some work in the classroom. Clark would not put in the work in high school, with all the advantages in the world...what makes anyone think he would do it here? Same thing with McKenzie, but at least he had an excuse - shitty home life and less than adequate schooling. Clark had no such excuses.

And to top that off, he's not close to Alize IMHO and would not have seen the field as a freshman ahead of Weishar (and thus would have been an even bigger threat to transfer). Potentially, sure, he has more upside than Weishar, but watching Nick this summer, he'd be playing if it were not for the emergence of Alize, a once-every-ten-years type TE.

Sorry, but if you are already having trouble making it at beautiful UCLA, with a coaching staff so desperate to keep you engaged that they play you even when you are in no shape to play, then no way in hell are you making it in South Bend, IN.

NFL players with far bigger issues than entitlement can make a career out of it. If by far, you mean 4 years, we agree. But barring a major injury, I bet he has a solid NFL career. He's big and runs like a deer. Personality/douchery alone doesn't hold that back, unfortunately.

I had a strong feeling all along this kid was going to be a f-ck up when he got on campus, wherever he went.

Off the top of my head I can't remember a recruit with some much baggage and drama...

It does he if gets drafted by a shitty team in a shitty climate and feels like he doesn't want to play there, which is the most likely scenario. This kid's mentality is not one of great work ethic or desire. Those are huge red flags in the NFL.

So you're saying he's a high draft pick, eh? ;).

He has a bad work ethic? School, sure, I buy that. But school doesn't matter in the NFL. Do we know he doesn't like to put in physical work/exercise/practics? I haven't seen that posted. Some people hate school and love the physical work. Gunner Keil, Troy Niklas.

Do we know yet (for sure) that there is an issue with him not going back? When I read that, i thought the dude was just visiting his hometown.

There isn't anything concrete yet, but the guy is in New Jersey the day before he's supposed to be playing in the West. I know there are flights he could catch, etc.... but it's probably not great when a guy is on the opposite side of the country the day before a game.

That's what I'm saying. The dude loves the spotlight and doesn't like homework. Not unlike a young koon, and look how I turned out! If he flakes out of UCLA as well as his verbal commitments, that'll be the final straw. But I'm not joining the 'he won't make it on a college/NFL team' just yet.

Don't hold my bans against me. They were the biggest travesty since Sirius spent 13 in Azkaban.

Better brush up on things. Work ethic is one of the top things the pros look at (Big Lou is a recent example). You can't feel entitled in the pros and be successful. You have to report to practice when they tell you to. You have to lift when they tell you to. You have to get on a plane when they tell you to. You have to take the hardships and work through them. There are plenty of guys working a regular job that have the physical ability to play in the NFL. They're not there because they didn't have the commitment. To me, this situation has that feeling. I may be wrong, but like IrishLion said, "it's probably not great when a guy is on the opposite side of the country the day before a game".

I hear you. But work ethic towards sitting in classes and doing paperwork is not relative to putting in physical work. We all know guys who will spend 2 hours at the gym per day, but give them some 'real life' work to do and they can't stand it.

He could have poor work ethic at BOTH, but so far I've only seen things that point to academics. Ed Reed didn't like school but loved the football grind. They are two different types of work ethic and commitment. I'm not saying I'd want him to date my daughter, but it's football and people who are lazy at the normal-guy-things are not always lazy at football-things.
