Gonna give the list a final update this evening for everyone that'll have our hat on the table, but that 247 update seems pretty darn accurate.

It's important to note with Farrar that while our secondary coach is on the way out the door, the DC at Wisconsin was retained that had been recruiting him hard for a long time. It's easy to see why he'd be more comfortable with the Badgers.

couldn't they split up the schollie like they do in other sports? For example, with the 85th spot they give 4 25% scholarships. Seems odd to me it is treated all or nothing in football and basketball when plenty of other sports have a lot fluid movement with their limited scholarships with very few full rides. Not screwing people out but having an honest conversation with players about their needs.

Given FB participation knocks them out of consideration for other grants, walking on at ND is a lot more difficult than walking on to a local state school.
NCAA rule for football and basketball (I think). Any aid for someone participating goes against scholarship limit. Even if track first football part-time. Even partial counts as full.

Thanks for clarifying, guess that is why nobody does it!+

Yeah, the sports where you can chop up scholarships are called "equivalency sports"... sports like football are "head count" sports. I think there are only like 5 total "head count" sports... football, basketball x2... and I don't know, some girl's sports you can Google up.

"Head count" sports exist so that schools don't run around getting really fuzzy with the math to circumvent rules. Every kid receiving aid gets counted as "1" towards the maximum number of counters (85 for football).

Just to clarify, this is only "athletic" aid, correct? Since ND provides financial aid on a need basis, it was my understanding that PWO guys like Dickerson would essentially get free tuition, or at least substantial help through that avenue. Just another work-around...

I don't know, te last time I looked at the rules, I concluded they appeared to make anyone who receives ANY aid and plays in a game a counter--but I may have misunderstood.

I know, it seems unlikely that none of the walk-ons we have played are receiving aid from ND ... But then again, so many of the ones who have seen the field for us come from affluent backgrounds. Isn't Dickerson a former NBA players nephew? Maybe he's got a college fund.

It's something I have always wondered about. One of those things where the rule can't mean what it seemed to say...but maybe it does, after all?

I'm actually working on it right now... big board this year, lots of moving pieces, trying to make sure I have all of my facts right. I'll probably post it up around 7 PM tonight.

This doesn't work with my schedule.

with the recent loy updates it sounds like we could go:

Hayes
McKinley
Alloway
Studstill (please please)

with decent shots at Hamlin (please please) and Pride Jr.

Talk about finishing with a flurry.

If staff could somehow pull Jeff McCulloch too. WOWZERS

I can't help, but feel like we're setting ourselves up for massive disappointment (me being the ultimate pessimist)

just hope we have a solid New years bowl showing to show that we are REALLY moving in the right direction and elite again

? NFL draft talks will keep us on the front page through signing day. All the big HS senior invite games will be littered with ND commits. Our offense is stacked for the next few years with Kizer, Procise and Fuller showing how fast you can rise in the national discussion as an ND star. I think we are as healthy as I can remember, setting up for compelling closing arguments.

This isn't really important but just an FYI, if we signed Robertson, Mcculloch, Hayes, McKinley, Alloway, Hamlin and Studstill, we'd have the #1 class in the country according to 247. That doesn't take into account players that will join some of the schools above us.

If you remove Mcculloch and Robertson and add Troy Pride, we're still firmly in the top 7, depending on which way you want to mix & match.

We have a chance to sign another difference-making class. Look at Jaylon's class, it's been littered with contributors and last year's class has already made monster contributions in Adams, Sanders, Alize, (Coney to a smaller extent), ESB and Dex. And some of our best players from that class took a RS.

The brand is as hot as I can remember...let's hope it continues to burn bright.
