In fact, when Barnett flipped to Alabama and Notre Dame came calling for Wimbush, the two had a conversation about what the Irish had to offer if Wimbush were to flip.

"I reached out to Blake the day before I committed to Notre Dame and asked him what he did like and what he didn't like about Notre Dame. I got his insight on Notre Dame, and he gave me some good stuff to think about," Wimbush said. "He said you would be earning one of the best degrees in the country, you're playing for one of the traditional programs, a historic program, and you'll make great relationships. It was probably more the negatives that I wanted to hear from Blake, though, but I felt the positives outweighed the negatives, and that's why I made my decision."

Good to see Barnett at least leave good impression on Wimbush and not leave ND completely in the dust. Although would like to know what some of the negatives were.

The "hung up on him" quote actually comes from Barnett. What no one knows is what "hanging up" on someone actually entails. Could simply be cutting the conversation short "OK best of luck to you then (click)" ... or it could be slamming the phone down mid sentence ... or it could be...

• Wimbush is one of the more polished quarterbacks in the country … He's capable of making every throw from the pocket and on the move … He is very instinctive … He has plus arm strength … Gets the ball out quickly with a flick of the wrist … His ability to break containment and run is impressive … Not an elite speedster, but he has plenty of quickness to beat you with his legs … A true dual-threat … His upside is through the roof … Many consider him a playmaker with the ball in his hands.

Areas For Improvement

• While he is a terrific runner with the ball in his hands, his overall footwork needs to improve … His drop needs to become more consistent … Needs to improve accuracy with intermediate throws … Slightly long throwing motion … Will need to tighten up his release.

Poor phrasing on my part. Based on those quotes from Wimbush, I doubt Kelly burned any bridges with the Barnetts. And it's a good thing he didn't.

The more you read about Fitzpatrick the more you think he's an RKG, an ND / Stanford kid and the antithesis of the Bama / FSU / SC clones. I'd love him as a transfer but it would have to be year one because what credits transfer from Alabama? It's ranked behind 2 or 3 MAC schools academically.

Wimbush to me is a 5 star. He at least has 5 star potential.

He's the type of kid where if your quarterback position was in question before he got here...you'd just throw him in the game and let him grow and take you to the national championship a couple times.
